my bad. i didn't know it was away goals. i thought someone had said in this thread there wasn't an away goals rule in the League Cup for some reason.

thanks

and winning by 2.

2-1 or 3-2 to us would work also. We can definitely score at least two there. No problem. We'll have to play better than that, but we have done just that every single game so far this season, so I think we probably will.

maybe i'm confused about the League Cup tiebreaker here...to "win" the tie straight up we need to win the next match by, uh, two goals. Correct?

cheers

As I understand it, away goals count after extra time. So if it is 1-0 affter 90 minutes there, we'd get extra time. If after extra time it is 2-1 to us, we win. Not an unreasonable scenarios ("inconsistent" refereeing decisions notwithstanding).

I see this happening too although everyone, aside from Hart and Micah as I thought they were brilliant today, needs to play better in the 2nd leg for this to occur.

Douglas Higginbottom wrote:I think we might have been lucky tonight. We were largely clueless and if the scousers had stayed in an attacking mode we might well have lost by a few but the idiots just sat back and accepted a 1 nil win.
Unbelievable that they just let us have the ball and decided not to attack at all in the 2nd half.We still didn't do that much but we did had chances that were just not taken.

I cant believe this either. Its almost like Dalglish decided to sit back and defend almost as soon as going 1 up, which is really early.
I'm not really a City fan. I'm just here for attention.

We just wasnt good enough, Savic isnt ready at all for this, and ive had it with clueless sideways-backwards
passer Lescott... Get someone in who can create some passes forward. We had a lack of crativity today, shame
we are depending so much on yaya and silva. Hart MOM for me

What has happened to Nige?

He looks half the player he was this season.

Honestly can see him getting sold come next summer.

Funny how you see thigns differently. I see him as exactly the player he was last season. Those around him are much better but he has not made any progress at all sicne we signed him.

He'd be first out the door if I were to take over as manager. I see no point in a midfielder who can not look up and make a pass.

Liverpool stick 10 men behind the ball and get praised for a great gameplan, if that had have been stoke they'd have been slated!

It's true. Liverpool are awful. No wonder our proper team flattened them last week. With the right attitude, we can win the second leg. Problem is, who can be sure of our attitude at the moment from one match to the next?

Mancini must now play the best team he has for as many games as possible,or until we open up a gap in the league .no more fucking about.

Aguero is one of my favourite players, but Bob Taylor would have been more effective tonight. He has too many off days like this, and I fear it will be next season before he truly settles into consistency. Some days he will not shoot till the moment has passed. As things stand, though, he's undroppable. No one else can be relied on.

I watched the game but I havent seen the comments about Nigel on here. Apart from not being a dynamic attacking midfield player what exactly did he do wrong tonight? We know he doesnt have that creative spark but that limitation becomes more apparent when there isnt a Yaya and Silva in front of him

I thought he did ok.

Thought NDJ was good 2nd half. First too deep and sideways. 2nd half he started to thread some lovely balls through and even took on their mids going round and through them. Was the final third that let us down and everything stuck to Pepe the clown tonight.
Not over by a long chalk imo

We have to earn one by actually going for the ball in the penalty area.

Completely agree. Anyone giving Liverpool a "gimme" to the final didn't watch the second half tonight when we were still poor but completely dominant, or the 3-0 a week or so ago. They have a slight advantage at best, and one we could wipe out in the first 10 minutes if we are in the mood at Anfield. I'm not angry or depressed about tonight at all (well, not much) because even with City playing that badly they were fortunate to win.

FA cup hangover - Aguero not surprisingly knackered. Can't believe he's getting some stick on here

Missing 3 players that are basically the back bone of the team

We were there for the taking and Dalgleish decided to stick not twist

The door is still open but should be closed.

C'mon City!!!

Dejong hsn't had the games, you don't become a bad player overnight, people should cut him some slack - there always has to be a scapegoat it seems. Savic started badly but stuck with it - he will learn and will need to quite quickly we should get behind the lad.

We did lack leadership Hansen was right about that, he was also right in other respects - right up Gerrards arse in fact. The BBC are meant to be unbiased, that interviewer told Gerrard that Mancini was moaning about the Johnson tackle - a loaded statement. Mancini said he'd like to see it again thats all. Credit to Shearer who actually kind of pointed it out moments later.

I'm fucking angry tonight on a number of levels, not least with the bbc but we are still in it and we are lucky to have that chance cos the dippers shoud be out of reach.
