Was thinking same as op earlier. 1 out of 4 defenders signed look up to standard set by the rest.

How is it he can improve the ones we had but not sign decent ones?

I think alot of people are still pissed about the loss today but all these scathing attacks on Savic and Kolarov arent new...people on here have been shitting on these 2 for quite some time. so its not just kneejerk reactions to today's loss..partially, maybe...so no need to really attribute this to that.

Savic and Kolarov do look like shite defenders. Kolarov works as a wing back...as a proper left back? maybe against Wigan, but surely not any game against a tough opponent. Savic is still young but does look awful thus far this season...he has had a few good performances but overall he's been pretty torrid since coming here. We need a better backup CB and Savic needs to go on loan to get more experience in a team that can afford to have him at the back learning and finding his way because we arent one of those teams.
I'm not really a City fan. I'm just here for attention.

Savic is clearly not ready and may never be judging by last night. The back four are not a cohesive unit due in part to all the chopping and changing. Clichy and Richards are superb but without kompany next to him Savic was never going to get the support he needed from Lescott. We need a long term partner for Kompany. We also need to consider if NDJ and Barry are really the long term answer the centre of mid field. I'm not sure if kolarov is a premier league defender but he must be doing something in training to get picked, I do think he could become an attacking midfielder as gets up and down well.

Mancini is still 3 purchases short of his ideal starting XI, a centre back, a cultured mid fielder with good distribution and a more direct midfielder to play behind the front two.

Would Vlad Weiss have done better than AJ last night?

kolarov i cannot defend. most of his 'deliveries' of late have been woeful and he just stands off wingers until they go past him when he brings them down, or they just whip the ball around him. has had very long runs in the side and never truly impressed, so i'm confident in saying its probably not gonna work out between us. get a youth with bags of enthusiasm and energy as a stand in for clichy.

mancini does deserve a wee bit of criticism in the defensive department he's failed with his full back buys in my opinion (except clichy, though i don't think he's a mint as many of you make out still a decent player).

we need to show some faith and some patience.
not for Kolarov though.

I thought Lescott was fantastic on the ball the past two games. Such a major improvement. I don't care what Carl says, he is up to it.

Savic, we just can't carry against quality opposition. Kolarov, if Italy come with big money, arrivederci. Clichy, absolute class. Vinnie, best in the league.

Mancini's defence signings:

Boateng - came with a good reputation, got injured, never settled, got injured again and we sold for a profit. So it didn't work out we actually gained in money from it.

Kolarov - seems incapable of defending to the required standard, looks like he is running in treacle. Good free kick taker but seems to want to shoot everytime he crosses the halfway line!

Clichy - has been very good for me.

Savic - the jury is out and won't be able to make a proper judgement on him till end of the season at the earliest. He is young, has not played many games, he is new to the league and we signed him in August. On last night's performance, he was poor - he started nervously, lost confidence and never fully recovered.

Honestly believe Savic will come good, lad needs some first team action elsewhere but he's got potential, is just showing it in fits and starts atm.

Kolorov is a Left mid, end of. Not a bad player just a player in the wrong position. I'd rather him play than Jinky at moment in all honesty.

Clichy however is pure class. Anyone who suggests otherwise is fooking insane. Mancini's finest buy of last summer imo.

If Kolarov is a left mid it certainly should not be at City in the premier league.

Agreed.

He doesnt have the pace or range of passing to play higher up the pitch. Clichy looks a class buy, Savic is young and needs time to adjust and he clearly isnt ready to be a regular starter but to be honest he wanst bought to be one this season either was he? I do wonder who scouted Kolarov who does nto suit the Prem League at all and looks very bad value for his fee.

stop moaning about savic, he is still very young for a central defender. When a young centre back makes a mistake and gives a goal away he is slated by the fans. when a young striker misses a good chance he gets far less grief because it 'costs' less, i know loads of central defenders who made plenty of mistakes when young and inexperienced.
Savic is one for the future, lay off him, give the lad time he is a good prospect. We should be supporting and encouraging him.

from what i have seen i feel he has potential, but only time will tell, of course its an opinion and i could well be wrong, who knows. But how many centre backs are at the top of their game at this age? all young players make mistakes, just give him time.

Boateng was truly dreadful.

Kolarov is truly dreadful.

Savic may never be that good.

Kompany and Kolo are easily the best pairing for us, it's not even close. lescott has qualities, but he often looks like he's on roller skates, like Benjani did. Lescott is not class, never will be and his bit=part role for England suggests it too.

Kompany is as good as there is in this league when he is on form. He had been playing really well before the cheating red card. Kolo I like as he is steady and quick.

Clichy on his day, is superb. I thought he was iffy in patches last night, then some good spells. Against them last week, he was outstanding.
