Fuck me!!! I'm glad we had more patience with the likes of Paul Lake when he was a kid.

Agreed.

He was poor tonight and looked very vulnerable every time he got the ball, though let's not write him off! I'm not saying time to adjust, new league etc.. he's a kid and a nervous one at that - least he has shown to have heart!

We're a club looking to be the best at all we do, including scouting - so I'd hope they did their homework and he has shown promise. Tonight he was thrown in and looked out of place.

Carl, You're doing it again Mate and its not good for your health at your age.

Savic was bought for the future. You don't know how good he is going to be. There wereenough screaming to get rid of Micah when Micah was older.
He shouldn't have played but came out to fill the boots of the best Prem defender. He should only be playing cameo roles. What he does for his country is their business but cut the kid some slack.

John,

Savic has been playing for his country since 2007....he has 12 full games for the first team and scored 2 goals.

He is 21 and is not a "kid".

If he cannot cut it now in our 1st team then he never will.....I did a U turn on him as I thought he would cope well....yesterdays game showed me his overall play is quite ordinary and also naive.

I thought he looked quite comfortable in possession apart from two missed passes. It was his defending that was lacking.
What somewhat baffled me when we went to three defenders was that Savic was playing centrally. A lot of promising attacks down the left side died at Lescotts inept feet. I'm sure Savic would have done more of those situations.

I'm not sure what he did to warrant this level of criticism. The 'creative' players were the ones to blame for last night's gutless effort.
Step forward AJ and Nasri. Awful cowardly performances.
I thought Lescott and Savic dealt with Carroll pretty well.

Carroll was fucking hopeless & had no support. He will always win headers v anyone on the planet. There are however some headers he can be stopped from winning, but not by Savic. On the whole, the lad had nothing to do, Lescott had a cigar out, but on the few occasions Savic was required to do anything which could be called important defending, he was fucking miles off it. Carrol turned him & beat him for pace on the edge of our own box. That would normally have been Suarez! Can you imagine what Suarez would have done to him ?!

Ned was a much better defender than Savic at the same age, FACT.

Re defending, definitely, but Savic is much better with the ball. I think there is a future for Savic in top football. I just don't know in which position. It was painfully obvious that Savic is much better in possession than Lescott is when we went down to a three-man-defense last night. Lescott needs half a minute to get the ball under control and find the right pass.

who's Carroll? He couldn't keep the ball between his feet at one stage. But, they coped with him well if you consider him as being an aerial threat.

Lescott is imo, one of the best defenders in the prem, but so so as a footballer compared to the best defenders worldwide. I thought savic looked a class above Lescott as a footballer but watching him carefully in the flesh last night (as there was fuck all else to watch) I thought he was dogshite at everything; much worse than I'd realised.

I thought he played ok from what I saw at the ground, that said the first half was at the opposite end to me so I couldn't really see what was happening defensively. I thought the midfield started terribly, and that heaped pressure on to us.

I genuinely don't see what Johnson brings to the team when he starts.

I thought without Yaya and Silva we struggled to control the middle of the park in the first half which in turn put excess pressure on the defence, DeJong was obviously not up to his usual standards which I hope is just down to lack of playing time of late, and to cap it all off we had a relatively inexperienced lad replacing our defensive helmsman...

I dont think we can complain since all that separated the two sides was a penalty that was due to a young lad who had a bit of a panic, Savic settled down later on during the first half and went on to have a reasonable second half.

His positional play after 5 minutes when the speedy (lol) carrol brushed by him was shit. The penalty was a shit tackle. His attempt to raise his boot again, in the area, in the same half, was shit. Shit player, shit buy by Mancini.

I was baffled as to why we didnt play Richards in the centre and play Zabs on the right !!! Bad move playing Savic imo. The guy doesnt look comfortable at all. I pointed out to my ol man how he seemed to look for the easiest, closest pass when he had the ball, usualy a 3 yard pass to Lescott or De Jong. Almost like he's saying 'I dont know what to do with it, you think of something' He made no attempt to play a good ball to anyone. Sure signs of a players that isnt confident.

Tbh, so long as he doesn't give the ball to the oppo, I don't mind him passing it sideways, as our midfield should have the ability to come & take it off him & play (which last night's couldn't) but I don't see anything in him which sets him apart from any other young defender at any other team. I don't understand what it is that we saw in him when we signed him & what it is that we expect him to grow into. I saw the N***lle brothers at the same age & they were miles more impressive at their job at any level than Savic.

Ned & Micah looked so much more impressive, as did players like Steve Redmond & Ian brightwell when they first came through.

What exactly does this bloke have, which sets him apart from all the thousands of other kids his age & makes people think he can be the future CB for our team ?

If Dave Watson or Paul Lake or whoever are on here & they want to give me a masterclass in defensive knowledge & pinpoint what they can see in Savic which will come out in the future I'm fully willing to read it & watch for it & learn. I'd absolutely love to be wrong.

To me he just looks like a very very average player.

Very restrained Ted. I said to er indoors after 10 mins of the game "Ted will be goin apeshit about Savic" I know I was. Why does Mancini keep ignoring the feckin obvious?. kolarov v rags, Savic v a giant, Milner out wide,It was obvious against QPR journeymen Savic wouldn't cope v top class oppo.Mancini wants to stop moaning and start organising our playing resources better.3-0 nil down before he sorted it Sunday.
