Balotelli's Attitude

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Mingchester,
Have you never considered that football is a form of theatre where fans go to see their team win and be entertained.
Whatever else Ballo might be, he is an entertainer and his antics on the field in recent time have been celebrated and enjoyed (as theatre) by most City fans.Ballo's antics have given City fans special memories.
Anyone could have just nodded that goal in and nobody would have given it a2nd thought. By cheekily using his shoulder, then scowling, he did something different. Something that was covered by the media, talked sbout and celebrated by City fans.

Long may he continue to make me laugh whilst I am cheering his goals.

Mario Baloteli is a last minute addition to the new Years Honours list. He will receive an OBE for his services to stupid internet rumours.

Hows this for some Balo Bollox:

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story ... ak?cc=5901

The eccentric Manchester City striker has entertained English football fans and media alike with his unpredictable behaviour, which has previously included driving into a women's prison, throwing darts at youth team players and reportedly giving a homeless person £1000 after a successful night at a casino.

For his latest trick, Balotelli parked up his Bentley at Xaverian College in Rusholme and went into the canteen to ask students if there was anywhere he could relieve himself.

After using the toilet he spoke with teachers in the staff room and then walked around the college being followed by hordes of excited Manchester City fans before leaving 20 minutes after he had first arrived.

"Xaverian was delighted to receive a surprise visit from Mario, who chatted to some of the students at one of Manchester's most successful colleges," a spokesman for the college said. "We weren't able to enrol him on any courses, but he is welcome back anytime."

A number of understandably thrilled students were quoted in the Manchester Evening News, including Edward Gasson, who was sitting in the canteen when Balotelli turned up.

"Balotelli parked his Bentley outside then came in and was asking where the toilets were, then he went to the teacher's staff room," he said. "After that he was just walking round campus like he owned the place and everyone was following him around.

"I'm a City fan so it was amazing to see him but it was a bit ridiculous for him to come here - you would never expect it to happen."

What mentalist. Do love him like, but I wonder what he'd be doing if he wasn't a footballer. He'd probably be sectioned. Or a racing driver. Or a wizard.

A few years back when I went returned to Xaverian to see my old Classics teacher for a reference I was apprehended, marched to the front office and told to wear a Visitor pass at all times.

Talk about conspiracy.

Seems this one's true at least. Should we be worried though that he might actually start trying to live up to his own legend status in off the field stuff and not dedicating enough of his thoughts and energy to doing the business on the field?

Ballo wandering about strange places ain't such a big deal...I did it years ago.

We were playing Leicester at Maine Road and it was raining, I sorta punched this Leicester fan and this nice police officer took me in out of the rain. A few days later, I wandered off the street into the Magistrates court, They made me feel really welcome, I was even on the guest list in the rception. They took me into a room and gave me a seat. We all chatted nicely for a while and then they gave me a fine present as I left.....no wait...it was a fine they presented me with.

Balotelli has grown on me enormously this season, but his attitude on Wednesday has started to put me off him again. To be quite honest, I'd not be sorry to see both him and Dzeko go tomorrow provided we could get reliable, top quality replacements. What I want are players that make me proud to be a City fan like my heroes in the 'seventies did when I was kid. I'll never get back that old hero worship at my age, but I do have pride in Kompany, Yaya, Silva, Hart, Richards, Zabaleta and Aguero, plus increasing respect for Milner, Clichy and Barry. The rest, though, I don't have any strong feelings for one way or the other.

Exactly this. The article didn't even clarify whether he was a guest there (which I suspect, due to the strictness on going into schools unsupervised) or not.

Basically, what I take from the story is:
NotHowJournalismWorks wrote:Balo is invited to a school under the CITC programme or some other charity/sponsorship scheme.
He needed a piss upon arrival.

erm... that's it.

Hardly anything 'legendary LOL' about that, is there?

I think you're doing Mad Mario a disservice.

From the quotes of staff & pupils, it is quite obvious that he parked up at a school, asked where the bogs were, went for a piss, then toured around it like the Queen, causing general excitement and merryment! I think that's hilarious.

People saying there's no story; I take it you quite often stop at schools, go for a piss then tour around inspecting the place with all the kids following behind you, singing your name ?

No, but as my regular attempts to perform such antics have proven, it is highly unlikely that such a scenario would occur.

From the quotes given, there is nothing whatsoever to prove he was uninvited, and the fact he went straight to the staff room after the bogs kind of suggests his visit was predetermined.

Also, I doubt a college spokesman would discuss the event in such candid terms with a journalist were there not some kind of pre-arranged press conference/briefing, which again would suggest his visit was preempted.

I think you'll find he just turned up, hence the 'surprise' element in all the quotes in the M.E.N.. You don't get teachers saying "what a surprise Paul Scholes turned up after accepting an invitation to our sport's day" It gets staged with photo's etc.

this was Mario, being Mario.

I'm not buying it, sorry. Our school had a 'surprise' visit from a few Wales internationals, but it didn't stop the press from being there. Although I think he's a character, most of the press stories seem to be grossly exaggerated. There's a pretty good article which takes apart the Balo myth on the purelymancity site (about half way down the front page).

I'm new to this site but have been a city fan for quite some time (que questions to prove the fact) but super Mario is a character we need to sustain what we are as a club - I havnt seen the likes of him in gods own blue shirt for many year and I welcome such a string character and I'm proud to have him at our club - life would be as boring as this transfer window without him !!!

Oh hi all and Doug H - your a star reporter fella.
