Is he about to crack?

With everything that's been going on, refereeing decisions, a few losses, Gerard's tunnel altercation, not doing the press conference etc, it's being reported that Mancini is circumbing to the pressures of being at the top. For me, this is not the case only that Mancini is getting annoyed at what has been going on of late.

So, what are your views. Are the media trying to make something out of nothing or is there something behind it?

In both cases there should have been discussion about poor performances from a number of players, but all the discussion was deflected to where Machiavelli, sorry Mancini, pointed it.

Media definitely out to make something of nothing. Mancini was a top player at all levels and pressure is not something that will cause him to crack. Funny how if fervor skips a conference it's mind games or cheeky ole fergie ... But if Mancini does it he's cracking? Nah, not in a million years.

Their new agenda is to try & put pressure on City by saying we will crack whilst telling everyone how Utd (who have just avoided their 3rd consecutive league defeat & almost lost a 3 goal lead to ten men) are all calm and cool about it.

If it wasn't for bad reffing decisions in a short period of time, we would be about 4-6 points better off, ahead in the League Cup semi & still in the FA Cup. Mancini is fucking sick of it, & annoyed about it like most of us.

I read this interview from David Platt in the Express this morning (reason for thread) and he gives a decent inside take on Mancini. He could just be covering but it does come across well.

THE heat might be intensifying on Manchester City after four defeats in eight games, but manager Roberto Mancini will not crack.

In fact, insists his right hand man David Platt who has known the Italian for almost 20 years, the obsession with creating a winning dynasty will continue to flush any negatives out of the club’s system.

Ahead of City’s Premier League trip to Wigan tomorrow night, Platt who played alongside Mancini under Sven Goran Eriksson at Sampdoria and who returned to England to help Arsenal secure the double in 1998, offered a unique insight into the mindset of a man charged with transforming oil dollars into silverware.

“I have no worries that this is somebody who loses his head,” smiled Platt, who is well aware of the demands on his old team-mate.

City’s assistant boss added: “There’s no way on earth he will go under. I think of all the people I have known or worked with, and he is right up there if not right at the top when it comes to having strong opinions and a strong mind.

“There is a desire to win. It’s almost a drug. He just deals with things and there are no grudges.”

As an assured Sky Sports pundit before answering the call to join City’s coaching staff alongside Mancini and Brian Kidd, Platt knows every camera will be on the Italian, always probing the image of a man feeling the strain of expectation.

Platt said: “He will remain the same. It will be the perception of him that will change.” He says Mancini is a driven man, never satisfied, always searching for improvement and more trophies. Successive defeats against Manchester United and Liverpool will be pushed to one side.

“If we win the League this season, he will want to win it again next season,” Platt added. “He wants to win every single thing. His idea is to continue winning. I know for a fact one of the things that floats his boat is the ability to come and change a club from not winning to winning – and not just once.

“He changed it as a player. He was involved very deeply with Sampdoria and had suitors right, left and centre to go to bigger clubs like Juventus, AC and Inter Milan, but he enjoyed the fact that he was helping build something.

“He has brought that doctrine to Manchester City. He’s not your typical Italian manager. The way it is in Italy you coach for two years here, two years there. He is different to that. He likes to build an institution, to be at a club for a significant number of years.

“He didn’t want to leave Inter Milan (where he won three successive league titles). They got rid of him. He would have stayed there and continued to win.”

So how does he react to two defeats on the bounce? “He reacts to a bad pass,” Platt admitted. “He is a perfectionist, an absolute perfectionist. I have seen him getting angry when we’ve been winning 3-0.

“Does he lose his temper? Frequently. But he quickly puts all that away, and that’s to the benefit of the next game.”

It’s why the tunnel bust-up with Steven Gerrard over Glen Johnson’s challenge on Joleon Lescott late in Wednesday’s Carling Cup defeat against Liverpool has been forgotten.

Platt said: “The game has characters, it has personalities, people with opinions. In the overall swim of things this was something out of nothing. It won’t be affecting Roberto and I’m sure it won’t be affecting Steve. There’s no grudge.”

Now the focus is on beating Wigan and keeping Manchester United and Spurs at bay at the top of the table.

Nothing, though, will dent the friendship between Platt and Mancini, forged two decades ago in Italy.

“If I’ve got an opinion I will give it to him but you are not going to change the character of someone who has certain things in him when I first knew him at 26 or 27,” said Platt.

“I will say something to him. Whether he takes it on board depends on what mood you get him in.

“It’s a case of just complementing each other. We now have to navigate our way through the next four months as best as we possibly can, as a group – players, managers and staff.”

I'm glad I didn't watch it as I've seen teams fuck up & let them get away with it so many times. Seen two of the goals but turned off the highlights when they came on. If they had been playing Wigan, Bolton would have played Cahill & sold him on Monday. They were chalking this down as a defeat, so let Cahill go as they did't think it mattered.

My own opinion is Bobby Manc is trying to take off pressure to our players. Some of them weren't at the top of form recently and so their manager looks like going himself under the spotlight instead of them!

Mancini is emotional and volatile as many Italians, we have seen it countless times.

He seems frustrated he doesnt have the players he feels we need to win matches.

IMO he will settle when the big players start coming back and we regain our fluid play.

Hopefully we will see off Wigan with Silva back. Spurs and Liverpool away will be big tests without Kompany and Yaya.

which is why if Mancini thinks DeRossi is the purchase he needs to make to help deal the league then the man should have a wedge of cash in his wallet and that bearded Italiano wrecking ball on his team sheet already goddamit. I feel like we're fucking around at the 11th hour, when giving the man what he wants is what we ought to be doing.

it's just a retarded time to get pennywise. I don't think mancini is asking for someone to spend 100M this window. He prollee wants someone to outlay about 30-40M on 2-3 players, and knows that he can recoup all of that cash now and in the summer from selling players.

United, despite how weak they seem, will get the points and be there until the end...Spurs probably will too.

We can just keep running on cruise control if we'd like. I know i'd prefer a couple players to cover us off longterm. Tevez potentially gone, we need a striker. Savic -- well, i have no idea where he'll play, but it's not at CB in this league, is it?

We've proven to ourselves that missing TYY and Vinnie along with Kolo gone, coupled with the injuries to our strikers and the Tevez saga, basically makes us a scrappy top four team. We can play a couple more matches and prove that to ourselves further, but i think we can all see what's happening on the pitch. Is that who we want to be or do we want to be champions?

We're down about 5-6 players right now between injuries, suspensions, and the African Cup. That's pretty drastic in my mind.

He does need the squad to share the load, which some are not doing, Dzeko, AJ, Nasri, look off the pace, unhappy with squad places ?, sub role. Go to players when it's tough are thin on the ground, Zab needs to be used more.

That's debatable mate, I personally feel that Mancini hasn't rotated the squad well atall. Knowing Yaya was going away should've brought a rotation with Nige possibly getting more game time with either Barry dropping or on occassion, Yaya. Adding Dzeko to the frontline more often knowing that we would have needed him if injuries occured, then he may have kept some of his match fitness and form. Then look at the fullbacks, constantly rotating to keep them fit/rest them then you'll probably see that these squad players aren't actually that, they are all part of the 1st team.
