Not surprised tbh. Definitely a touch of the Gazzas about his personality. Was always gonna happen, sadly.

I feel for Windass. Depression is really hard. Massively underestimated and misunderstood, as parts of this thread show all too clearly. I hope Windass can get the help he needs and move forward.

I have no wish to be unkind to you Aston Mate but on this, you are way off mark.
You would not wish to make fun of someone with a physical problem like a sprained wrist or broken leg. We accept that on occasion parts of our physical bodies break down or fail to work to their potential. The dsame with the brain or the mind. it is finely balanced and on occasion it breaks and needs mending.

Youth is often a wonderful place to be Mate. Often we think we know much more than we actually do, simply because we don't know how much there is to truly know.

Depression can hit the most unlikeliest of people for the strangest of reasons.
I KNOW THAT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU THINK I WROTE, BUT I AM NOT SURE YOU REALISE THAT WHAT YOU READ IS NOT WHAT I MEANT

Ok so firstly my opinion, while different is just as valid. So two sips, go suck a dick.

I'll try and explain my way of thinking on this to clarify it for a few people. Doesn't mean you have to go along with it, it's just how I feel about 1 subject.

So as OD has said, the brain is run by chemicals. Every state of mind you experience is dictated by the release/withdrawal of certain chemicals. This includes being upset and angry and things like feeling useless. Which most people would describe as depression. People feeling these things all at once are undoubtably in a bad place and will need support, but by saying to that person "your depressed, nothing you can do about it, take these tablets" your basically telling that person who is already struggling to just give up. You telling someone on the edge in some cases that there is no way back. Your giving them an excuse to stop fighting and taking away the responsibility we all have for our own actions. Your giving them an easy way out and the easy way is 99.9% of the time the wrong way or a temporary relief.

Every single brain on the planet works differently. By and large they may be physically uniform but the memories and experiences are different for everyone. It's the memories and the experiences that shape your reactions to outside influences. You lose your job and you may think "shit job anyway" or you may think "oh my god what am I going to do now" depending on your life experiences and the state of mind those experiences will create for you in the circumstances. Now if you would take the latter from the situation then you might need a bit of support from friends and family but what you don't need is an excuse to push you further in the wrong direction.

I personally believe that depression is a word banded about too much. A word that can encompass hundreds of different feelings. What it boil's down to, and I think taking it down to it's root cause to some people is out of order because it seems like trivialising someone else's pain/problems, Is being upset about certain things. Feeling like you can't cope and needing help. I think that if more people could see it this way and actually paid attention to the cause of the problem and helped that person deal with their personal situation rather then labelling it as an all consuming all conquering tyrant then it would do people suffering a lot more good than saying "your depressed, here's some tablets".

Just my opinion on a subject, if you don't like it then tuff. Opinions are fucking legion and there is nothing you can do about it.

The body is a machine and like all machines, parts break down. The brain is obviously the most complicated because thought process and emotion triggers chemicals. Chemical imbalance can make the brain do strange things.

You may have noticed this on a lesser level when you drink a large amount of alcohol.

Or do you not believe that people can get drunk either?

I think he knows that brain damage is real. He's been reading your posts for years.

I can't believe half of you take Ashton's hard man routine seriously. Of course depression is real. What's next? He'll wind you fuckers up by saying being gay is a "choice."

Regardless, as i said earlier in the thread -- good luck to Windass and his family. I enjoyed reading Alex's secondhand feedback of his pub behavior. THAT is exactly the kind of dickhead stuff that someone who claims to believe Ashton's perspective on this topic would act until they realize "oh, fuck me...i can't take this. i want out."

it's real. I get depressed most days reading responses to intelligent posts on this forum.

How the fucking hell do you know how many people in Sierra Leone have depression ?

No matter how breathtakingly knobby some folks opinions are, you can somehow out knob them with one line. On this count at least, you are a true genius.

Good luck to Windass.

It would help me if you could find a stat on it.
I think not knowing where your next meal is coming from or not being able to feed your kids is depressing.
Good luck to him as you say.
I don't think it's a serious illness however

You don't think it's serious?

Every doctor will confirm it is real so you don't have to think about facts chief.

It is a fact that depression is a serious illness.

I'm about three-quarters of the way through Paul Lake's book at the moment and his book documents very well how someone can fall into depression. For those who don't believe it exists or isn't serious, you should read Lake's book and perhaps, with the help of it being City-related, might give you some more insight into how depression works.

(Plus it is a very good book anyway)

I believe in depression and wish Windass all the luck in the world.

But please don't start calling a fellow poster all the names under the sun just because they have a different opinion. If you don't like it FOE them. I'm sure enough people have done it to me over the past few months. Simple.

It's not a difference in opinion. It's highly offensive and incredibly disrespectful to many people. It's ignorant, tasteless and objectively rubbish nonsense so i'm not gonna just 'ignore' him or 'foe' him. I'll call him a twat cos he is exactly that.

Some people just cannot handle life's twists and turns and fall into "depression mode"...it is a fact unfortunately, and I think taking tablets for depression makes it worse in the end...as the tablets always wear off whereas "talking" about it doesn't on the whole.

On a side note ; Only City depress me when they lose - also spitting at the plasma at a ref or other figure of hate really brings me back down to earth and gives me an enormous feeling of self worth.
THEY SAY SWEARING IS DUE TO A LIMITED VOCABULARY. I KNOW THOUSANDS OF WORDS, BUT I STILL PREFER "FUCK OFF" TO "GO AWAY"

The misery movement has rapidly gathered momentum and in recent months it's become apparent that, along with the Apple iphone, the latest must-have accessory is a big dose of depression.
If you're a black South African woman growing up in a township, or a mum in a slum favela in Rio, or a supermarket shelf-stacker in Croydon, or one of the band of low-paid female workers who go to work at 3am to clean the offices of the wealthiest and most powerful people in Britain in the City of London, you probably aren't afflicted by depression. What you're more likely to be suffering from is poverty, exhaustion and a deficient diet. You will have bills you can't pay and a struggle to feed and clothe your kids.
I am not denying that clinical depression is a real mental illness, or that it can be debilitating for sufferers. But let's take a moment to consider whether depression is common among the poor or the working class?

The shelf stacker in Croydon is probably a student earning his beer money but agree with you on the rest. Has someone hacked RH's account? Try being a tax accountant with the current barbarians in charge, now that is depressing...
