It might get to that, Demento and Wenger have both been sent to the stands before for abuse to the 4th official ... which is the same thing apparently. Far too much focus on this bollox for me ... he shouldn't give them ammo as its just heat of the moment stuff all round really

The whole point about the card waving thing was that players were trying to influence the ref into giving fellow players a card. THAT is what the whole problem with it was about, not someone on the touchline complaining afterwards that the ref should have given a card. All managers do that all the time; the gesture is irrelevant.

These people don't even know what it is they're pretending to be upset about.

What is the initial hand gesture that Slur makes in this vid?

Does anyone recall the media outrage at this? No, neither do I.

Sandman,
I respect that in your personal dealings with Whelan, he may have been a perfect gentleman. But please remember that this ids the same guy who raised the ticket prices for City fans a few years ago, because he knew we had a large following and he wanted to rip the arse out of their wallets. If I remember rightly, ,any City fans boycotted the game and he failed to make the killing he'd planned. Having ripped the City fans off and pockeetted the cash, he then apologised to them in his MuEN column. Never offered the money back.
This is the same Whelan that got the Wigan RLFC club to sell out to Tesco, help finance the Robin Park Ground, then dumped them.

Lovely bloke.

Dave Whelan weighs in over card waving & says loads of really nice things about Mancini & City, after me & others generally slagging him & his team off over the years, including today.

and you cant keep comparing our bad decisions with what others get away with or dont , bobby as got to forget about kompanys red card now ,we all know it was wrong hes made his point get on with the next game. although at the same time weve been harshly treated lately to say the least, but its time to move on imo.ashton makes a great point about either red or yellow after all it was an imaginary one.

Irrelevant. He was undoubtedly, last man. Could not give a rat's arse if he had a bit to run and might have had to round the keeper. Ridiculous. Laws of the game are not being applied. This is why it is so annoying.

To say that this sense of injustice and irritation is compounded by people, particularly our own fans, saying that it might not have been a red card situation, would be an understatement. Frankly it's embarrassing.

Difference was that the Spurs player was on the touchline, with another Bolton defender covering. Aguero had a clear run down the centre of the pitch with no other Wigan defender in sight. It was a terrible decision.

I just noticed on SSN that Mancini is not to be charged for his card waving bla bla. How the hell did it get the stage where it was even being considered? The media must be gutted that their attempts to have him "done" have failed. What next I wonder?

Last line is priceless

The imaginary card I was waving was a yellow not a red, insists Mancini
Mancini waves imaginary card

Manchester City Manager Roberto Mancini has defended his recent card waving antics by insisting the card he was waving in last night’s 1-0 victory over Wigan Athletic was clearly a yellow and not a red.

Mancini has come under criticism for gesturing at referees to send players off, but he insists that he was gesticulating for a caution rather than for the player to be dismissed.

“I would never use an imaginary red card to influence the referees decision,” he said.

“If people want to imagine that I’m imagining red cards then that is up to them, but if they look more closely at my imaginary card then they will see that it is clearly a yellow card that I’m imagining.”
Mancini waves card

Wayne Rooney hit out at Mancini’s claims and called for the FA to confiscate the former Internazionale and Lazio manager’s stash of imaginary red cards.

“Something needs to be done!” he fumed in one tweet. “I don’t see why the FA can’t stop him taking his imaginary cards into the technical area.”

“The only way to deal with it is for the fourth official to check Mancini’s pockets before the game starts.”

The FA has confirmed that it will study the footage to try and ascertain whether Mancini’s claims that he is brandishing an imaginary yellow card, and not a red, are credible.

“If we feel that Roberto Mancini is holding an imaginary red card then we will have no alternative but to hand out the sort of imaginary punishment that we usually reserve for Sir Alex Ferguson,” revealed an FA spokesman.

I partly think this too. Also he's highlighting the inconsistancy of refereeing decisions. Also taking the media attention of the players playing crap.

Bob's getting on my tits at the moment. He needs to sit down and calm down. He's constantly gesticulating and criticising his own players pitchside, adding to the pressure on them. He's been worse last half doz games.Really poor form in my view. Needs to show a bit of dignityy and trust in his players.

True, this. More dignity needed. But it's also true that Mancini has been singled out while other managers do worse and nowt gets said. So how about the crowd give him some support on Sunday, and when the Mancini song starts up, wave their own imaginary cards around?

The Poznan's all got a bit boring...Card waving would be a great gesture of support for Mancio.

Mancini has probably made his point and I should think he will stop now, but the usual suspects in the press are determined to undermine City with lies. Today's headline in the Independent, with a fabrication of a headline by Rag Ian Herbert:

Managers turn on Mancini over his red-card gestures

The Football Association considers Roberto Mancini's habit of waving imaginary cards at officials to be unsportsmanlike, though last night it was the growing criticism from his peers that looked most likely to force him to desist from repeating the gesture.

While the domestic game's governing body has no immediate plans to remind Mancini as to his future conduct, hoping that the Italian's club will instead point out that the gesture is not welcome in the British game, the conduct runs counter to the FA's Respect campaign and he may be reminded of his responsibilities in the future.

The FA is taking a relaxed position and any future communication with Mancini may come via the League Managers' Association rather than directly from Wembley, if required. But the comments yesterday from the Wolverhampton Wanderers manager, Mick McCarthy, may have the biggest impact. "None of us should do it," McCarthy declared. "It is something I don't like. There is a cultural difference. Roberto is in this country now. It is a little blip on a really good career for him at Man City because he handles himself with such good dignity and grace. He has done it. I wouldn't expect him to do it to one of my players or anyone else for that matter. It looks bad and I'm sure if it is pointed out, Roberto won't do it again."

Full article contradicting the headline:

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/foot ... 91067.html

McCarthy doesn't "turn on" anyone as far as I can see. Not even his wife - haha!

As for that snivelling little Taggart puppet, Martinez, his pathetic loser's thoughts were already printed in yesterday's papers, and I don't think we need take much notice of a tosser who might be better off telling his players that deliberate handball is a sending off offence, and who was lucky to end the game with eleven men on the pitch.

Wankers like Herbert were hoping to write about City dropping points at Wigan this week, but this is all they've got.
