Its the same old story..we are not playing to his strengths and then we end up slagging him off.

We definitely don't play to his strengths. I'll avoid the obvious comment.
Problem is, there's no point having him if he doesn't fit our system. A bit like de Jong now we don't really need a midfielder who can just sit. Or if we had a proper defensive full back who couldn't get forwards.
I'm really not sure what we bought dzeko for or what role we're asking him to play. He's not a strong target man and we could have got better for much less. He's not an Aguero type which seems to be what we need. He's not even a Mario type who can come in off the wing. I suspect if dzeko played for spurs or the rags he'd be scoring a lot more, but we don't play with wingers and never will under mancini, so what did he buy dzeko for?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining too much as we are still getting the goals but if we decided to get to the line a bit more we'd score for fun.
Ted Hughes wrote:Dzeko has the same problem at City as Andy Carroll has at Liverpool; no service. But, he has another problem & that is a lack of 100% effort in some games. When Dzeko fights like fuck, he is fantastic whether he scores or not. When he doesn't, imo he is a waste of space even when he scores most of the time. His performance v Liverpool was shocking & the same v Spurs.
Had Dzeko been on the pitch with Balotelli v Spurs, rather than Aguero, he would have got in the way of that long ball & lost it before it reached Mario. He either needs to fight for every ball or go & play in a less physical league. Putting a shift in once every 4 games is not acceptable.

Hmmmm, which league did he come from? Needless to say that I disagree. I've mentioned what I see as the problem and I'm amazed that you can make such an assumption that he'd 'Have got in the way' just to back up your perspective; have you got crystal down those trousers?
For a while now we have been one dimensional in our approach, choosing to play possession football and mainly in front of the defence. It's a good tactic when you've got the quick, tricky players to run in behind but when you haven't got that, and defences are packed then you need to mix the play up. Dzeko has been working hard and I'd go further to say that he's given too much which detracts from his play. What we need is to go back to the way we were playing earlier in the season which accommodated play that could be changed to suit individual players - mix it up for all our attacking players, even allowing for others to get into the play.
This season reminds me a little of when Roberto first came in, allowing the players to express themselves until he decided to shore things up and make sure it was more of a possession based game. No complaints as I say, but possibly something to think about during the run-in.
PS. I still blame the ref, and Dzeko should've had a penalty.
