What does Adam Johnson actually do?

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

I think AJ is a lot like Nasri. Players who stand out due to great dribbling skills dont suit our team and either get bollocked from the boss for going against game plan, or do as theyre told and possibly look quite average to the rest of us.
Tracking back is overrated.

He's worth persisting with.

I think Adam Johnson is the sort of player I mention in the Dempsey thread. He would be the superstar in a mid-table (or worse) team, but falls just short of cutting at the top top level. I think his biggest problem is a lack of speed. And he also seems to be lacking mentally.

His attitude was certainly fine in the first half, and seeing him emerging from the snow on one driving run took me back to the days of Eddie Gray in the 1970s. Looked just like him if you squinted and pretended the snow was a wonky 1970s TV picture.

No idea why he disappeared in the second half, though. Maybe he'd knackered himself out due to being hugely unfit, or because he spends so much time sitting down - or maybe Mancini told him to take it easy and save himself for some unspecified future fixture. Anyway, whatever, he still doesn't seem to have a consistent 90 minutes in him, on face value at least.

Don't think I've seen him have a good full 90 minutes since he arrived. Always fades in and out of games, as his sort of player tends to do, but usually disappears completely after an hour. Some of the other deficiencies in his game are forgivable - no player is perfect. But the apparent lack of fitness is ridiculous and I don't see why we allow it. Surely they can see it on the hill or bleep tests or is it a mental thing, so he can still run, just doesn't have the brain power to remember to keep doing it?

I'd prefer to see him for the last 30 as I think he's most effective against tired fullbacks, as if he starts, he seems to fade quicker than the fullback. There'd still be a squad place for him, but it's definitely on the bench in the majority of games.

Do you reckon his fitness is down to the persistent rumours that he likes a party and a drink?

Dempsey is better imo.

Again, went missing in the second half. I've genuinely never seen him compete for a full 90 minutes.

He's a squad player, not consistant enough to be a regular for a top team. I dont think he will get any better than this.

So I guess it depends on how long he's happy with this role as to how long he stays. Would be no great loss, he's replacable.

Thought he did alright on Saturday but taking into account the opposition, he should have been
