As I said, I'm not being deliberately ridiculous, just trying to think outside the box and I feel there is a footballer in there somewhere waiting to get out, it's just a case of utilising him in his best position.
His ball control isn't too bad and his lack of pace might mean he could become someone who gave a little more thought to finding space and using his left boot productively.....sort of a modern day George Graham (if quoting a former Arsenic player isn't too obscene a thought).
Who knows, it might be the answer to our 4th striker problem but, then again, it could be a calamitous suggestion.
I think you might need to have some time off to have a think your future, mate. That is one of the most bizarre posts I've ever read.
Thanks for being so diplomatic, old chum, about such an off-beat suggestion. I presume you already considered this possibility deeply and discarded it after much thought (or not).
It's just that we paid a lot of money for him and, before we ship him out (and presumably make a noticeable loss on any such transaction), I think we owe it to ourselves to try and find a way that he could be an asset to the squad and the team.
We don't need him as goalkeeping cover (he'd probably be no good with crosses), he's not a centre-half (although he might just make a semi-useful libero against poorer sides ??), he has positional and defensive frailities at full-back as well as being too slow, he's not a left-sided midfielder (mobility, stamina, tackling and positional-wise), he can't play the Big Nige role and, in any event, he'd give away too many free kicks in dangerously central positions, he's not tricky or fast enough to be a winger, so what does that all leave but to consider him in a more forward position, where his shooting might be an asset.
I still feel there's a footballer in there somewhere, just waiting to be unleashed although in years to come, it might be another outfit who get the benefits rather than us.
Anyway, what do I know .........
As bizarre a suggestion as that is, I can kind of see the logic.. he can shoot.. he's useless in every other way.. otherwise we've wasted money.. let's try him up front - no wait, it's just bizarre!
He's not a terrible full-back and he still holds a lot of value in Serie A. We could easily sell him for what we bought him for, if it doesn't work out, as we did Boateng - I haven't quite given up hope but I am far happier when I see Clichy's name on the sheet.
