Soriano aceptará la oferta del Manchester City

Is that actually genuine Spanish ?

It's like something Sid James or Ronny Corbett would say.

I'd like a translation of the word "CUANTA" that followed our club's name. We've had enough of those in my time.

Isn't that where Carl lives ?

The President of Spanair, Ferran Soriano, has resolved to accept the offer to direct the British football club Manchester City, as soon as the echos from the sudden collapse of the Catalan airline die away, according to sources close to him, Economía Digital has learned. The director will occupy a position of General Manager, equivalent to Director General (in Spain) of the English side. The former sporting director of Barcelona, Txiqui Beguiristain (sic, spelling??) will accompany him in his new enterprise.

In fact, the decision to abandon the company was taken several weeks ago with the looming prospect of an unhappy end at Spanair. And if the Qatari investors of Qatar Airlines with whom the Generalitat and Lazards Bank were negotiating had agreed a takeover, Soriano would have left the Presidency.

The prolongation of negotiations in the 2nd half of the year had meant that Soriano had promised Spanair to 'close the operation', vicepresident Miquel Martí told Economía Digital, and he himself had declined to takeover the executive position.

For Soriano personally the move to Manchester will also allow him to relieve the tensions surrounding the closure, explained the source close to him. To start a new professional adventure many miles away allows the effects of the failure of the Catalan company to ease, although it wont dilute the responsibilities for the affair.

The Soriano-Beguiristain duo will take the reins of the LONDON club (Arrrrrggggghhhhh!!!), owned now by Abu Dhabi, in part of a profound remodel of organisational structures which the new owners desire. Whilst Soriano will be able to occupy a post equivalent to the Presidency or Executive Director General, Beguiristain will be the Sporting Director. Both have been contacted by the club to bring there an organisational and functional model similar to that which has made Barcelona triumph (sic).

Maybe I ought to quote a little passage from this article!!

http://www.elconfidencial.com/economia/ ... que-91802/

"He is man of many resources and special skill, but the airline sector has some peculiarities which he never comprehended well", indicated to El Confidential a traditional Barcelona banking source.

AND

But his star has gone out. In some business sectors his dealings are questioned. They want to know the money he has been paid in these few years. "Now we know that the assets are around 150M euros and the debts, according to creditors, are over 400M. Meanwhile, however, Soriano and his pals have carried off a fortune. Because there are rumours of millions of euros pa in salary to a handful of directors whilst the company was losing money hand over fist (on all sides)", says a source close to the administrative council.

Swales....Shinawatra.....the Ghosts of City past may be returning to haunt us....and it's nearer to April 1st than Halloween.

Somewhere in this World, there must be a little old man, with a wealth of knowledge, a mass of financial and football expertise with no dodgy past, who the media would adore, that could do this job.......but then again....this IS City.

I reckon the Sheik and his boys have done more than their fair share of underhand manouvres in the business world.

I'm hoping that this is an area they'll have as much (if not more) expetise than anyone in, and any people we do get in will be kept well in check by them.

I dont think SM will allow anyone to pull the wool. And for this reason, as long as the dodgy fuclers are on our side, and dont do anything Redknappish which may hurt the club, ill take 'em.

You can't put Swales and Shinawatra in the same category John, one was a mad despotic tyrant and the other is just from Thailand.

ARU boss misses Manchester City job
Michael Cockerill
February 9, 2012

John O'Neill has missed out on one of the biggest jobs in world sport - chief executive of Manchester City.

The Australian Rugby Union boss was told at the start of the month he had been pipped at the post and that the job had gone to a Spaniard, former Barcelona general manager Ferran Soriano.

Manchester City, leading the English Premier League, has been on a global search for a chief executive since Gary Cook was forced to resign in disgrace last September after sending an insensitive email to the cancer-stricken mother of one of the club's players, Nedum Onuoha.

O'Neill was headhunted soon after while in New Zealand for the Rugby World Cup, and was interviewed on Skype by club directors before a key interview with chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak just before Christmas.

O'Neill has two years left of his contract with the ARU. He declined to comment last night.

He headed Football Federation Australia for a while when the A-League was in it's infancy so he has pedigree, but rugby is his true passion so it's just as well really.

MEN reads mancityfans.net shocker:

http://menmedia.co.uk/manchesterevening ... an-soriano?

Manchester City are set to name former Barcelona supremo Ferran Soriano as their new chief executive within the next six weeks. The Blues remain tight-lipped over the replacement for Garry Cook, who resigned in September after accidentally sending a mocking email to the mother of City defender Nedum Onuoha. But M.E.N. Sport understands Soriano, who was last month revealed as the front-runner for the job, will take the post. Reports in Australia said that Australian Rugby Union boss John O’Neill had been pipped for the £2m-a-year job by Soriano. But the 44-year-old, a powerful voice in European football from his time as general manager at Barcelona, has to tie up the loose ends from the Spanair collapse last week before he can move to Manchester. But a man who oversaw Barca’s rise from the world’s 13th richest football club to become European champions and second only to Real Madrid in terms of revenue, has been eyeing a return to football.
