I was quite relieved that we managed to get the 3 points in the end because until we scored I was struggling to see where the goal was going to come from. Aston villa were clearly playing for a 0-0 or maybe hoping to snatch a 1-0 win and as such hardly showed any attacking intent for the first 75 minutes and didn't really press us when we had possession so it was disappointing to see us give the ball away so often when under no pressure. A 1-0 lead is always shaky and I didn't enjoy the nervous last 10 minutes when I felt we sat too deep and invited pressure from villa. This was a game that we should have won far more comfortably as villa were awful and we probably would have done had our play in the final third been better. Not at our best today in terms of attacking play but we got 3 points and this was a game that last season we probably would have drawn 1-1 and the pressure is now back on the rags

Barry deserved his MOTM award but I also thought vinny had a good game and his composed distribution from the back was something we have missed when he's been absent. Joe was excellent as always and AJ was disappointing as always. Milner also had a poor game but Kolarov looked better than he has recently but that's probably cos he didn't have too much defending to do. Aguero looks very short of confidence when in front of goal although the rest of his game is excellent. Silva looks like he is rediscovering some of his form but still not at his early season best. Lescott had a decent game but he still looks awkward with the ball at his feet and tends to hoof the ball forward too often failing to find a blue shirt. With villa barely even turning up to play there was no real need to play de Jong today and I thought Nasri should have started in his place. Hopefully yaya's return will give us a boost

True actually. He was brought on to defend corners & didn't get off the ground allowing Collins to get a free header without even jumping.

A perfect example of what I've been saying about him.

Are you serious??
He was brought on to defend... What a joke.
If defender was necessary, defender would be brought on.

Maybe he should even stay on goal, who knows...

That was my first thought too??? Why is bringing him on to defend set pieces with his height such an outlandish thought?

Just read that McLeish has confirmed that the Dunney monster is out for a month with shoulder injury. I don't reckon McLeish will be there to welcome him back though.

Agreed about Nige; I'd been concerned about his apparent lack of commitment in previous games, admittedly in most of which he was subbed but today was more like the old Nige and but for a fully committed Villa player block, might just have scored another 'screamer'

If it wasn't for that lucky set piece City would probably struggle to score until the very end, no ideas what so ever, having a possession doesn't mean anything if you don't know how to use it.
Anyways say w/e ya want, Dzeko means a lot.

Absolutely, if we wanted to admit that we were scared shitless of Aston Villa in a game we should be cruising to victory. Instead, we brought on a big forward, who can hold up the ball, when our panicking players lump it forwrd & defend when they lump it into our box.

What happened next ?

Not sure about that. I agree with him that we would have struggled to score from open play if the game lasted 6 hours. Just not sure Dzeko would have been the answer. Imo, Silva, Johnson, Aguero were as bad in the final third as Dzeko has been recently but he's been utter shite as well. We need a whole change of atitude & to show some balls whoever plays.

mmm
Lucky the corner was so well directed it missed their defenders
Lucky that Barry found the space
Lucky that Barry directed his header to the danger zone
Lucky that Collins was drawn to the far post - too late
Lucky that Lescott found the space
Lucky that Lescott neatly directed the ball into the net

Don't feel like quoting everybody.
Pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, lose the ball, n then pass, pass n pass again n lose the ball, n then all over again. In first half there's was only one "chance", shot by Johnson. No creativity what so ever, only passing. If the team is able to hold possession for over 65% in the whole game, they should create at least 5 really good chances. Like I said it doesn't mean anything if u don't, b/c the other team can score, n then all of that possession goes to waste, it won't matter.

When I said lucky I meant that , City would really struggle to score from the open game, playing that tactic.

@Ted
If Dzeko started up front, n Aguero right behind him, it would look better, team would be able to create more, n look more deadly. Aguero on many occasions had nobody in the middle of the box to pass the ball 2, n those plays went to waste.

D'yer know what....I am a City fan...my fanness is defined by my Cityness. My Cityness is defined by the whole club with an emphasis on the team plus other City stuff taken into consideration.

Recently, there is an increased definition of Cityness by Dzekoness. DZEKO IS NOT JESUS EFFIN CHRIST, HE WILL NOT DRAG HIMSELF ONTO A CROSS AND NAIL HIS HANDS AND FEET TO ATONE FOR ALL OUR SESASON' S BAD PASSES AND MISSED SHOTS.

Edin Dzeko is a striker, possibly a good one but he is not the answer to all our prayers....but from some (and please correct me if I am wrong)... I am now getting the feeling that if EDIN EFFIN DZEKO;
Drove the City team coach, our team would arrive at the ground sooner.
Cleaned the boots, they would be shinier.
Laundered the kit, the shirts would be brighter and the shorts have sharper creases.
Cooked the squad dinner, they would eat healthier......etc

IN FACT, HAVING READ ALL THIS EFFIN GARBAGE ABOUT EDIN EFFIN DZEKO, I NOW BELIEVE EDIN EFFIN DZEKO SHOULD HAVE AN EDIN EFFIN DZEKO STATUE OUTSIDE THE EFFIN ETIHAD EFFIN STADIUM, WHICH SHOULD HAVE ITS NAME CHANGED TO THE EDIN EFFIN DZEKO STADIUM...BECAUSE TO READ SOME OF THIS EFFIN SHITE, EDIN EFFIN DZEKO IS EDIN EFFIN GOD.

and with apologies to Doom effin Merchant.....Just effin sayin.
Thanks
I KNOW THAT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU THINK I WROTE, BUT I AM NOT SURE YOU REALISE THAT WHAT YOU READ IS NOT WHAT I MEANT

Glad that the shitting my pants at Mancini's team selection was misplaced.

Thought we were solid, actually better than that and if anyone had had their shooting boots on then we would have strolled that.

Was great to see Zabba get a start in the league. Micah has been in fantastic form but Pablo very very rarely looks out of place when he comes in and he seems to have a great understanding with our more creative players and, despite the fact he doesn't bomb forward with as much power or pace as Micah, there have been many occasions when his movement into/towards the box has been superbly timed and he seems to anticipate passes and space very well when he gets forward.

Nigel was solid last night, also good to see him looking like he's getting back into form. Would like to see him with Yaya when the brothers are back and rested so we can give Barry a bit of a break and keep him fresh for the run in. Thought GazBaz was great last night though. Milner wasn't really at the races last night, a few bits of uncharacteristically shocking control and wayward distribution from him...as quite a perfectionist I bet he was pretty unhappy with his performance.

Sergio showed flashes and worked his arse off but his shooting is a bit all over the shop at present.

I thought Silva looked at his silky best last night.....he's just such a quality player to watch, still can't believe he plays for us.

Joleon was excellent, even without the goal. Kolarov not terrifying and the ball he whipped across the box first half really did deserve someone busting a gut to get a toe on it.

Adam Johnson I thought had quite a good game, first half better than second but he worked last night and he was unlucky with that effort hitting the post (it still baffles me, however, that opposition defences still seem happy to back off him when he's on his left foot at that corner area of the 18 yard box....bloody suicidal and I'm sure we ALL know what he's going to do when they do that so not quite sure why they can't figure it/deal with it...ah well).

I never remotely thought we were coming away empty handed from the 1st minute last night, we could have slaughtered them but I was very happy with a tight 1-0

Oh...and Joe Hart.....pure class
