Good defender who is still improving. He's been reliable this year and I think the citicism of him is unfair. Him and Vinny could be a solid pairing for us for years.

However, I still can't get over how uncomfortable he is with a football at his feet. I don't understand how anyone can reach this stage in their career, regardless of what position they play, and look so awkward on the ball.

That said, he's solid for us.

I think that he has been vastly over-criticised in the past – perhaps also by me – but he has been good all season – and i was very glad that he was there when Vinnie was out.

Defences are units and the most important thing is that he pairs up very well with Vinnie – I would guess that he would be Vinnies’ 1st choice partner. He also provides great cover/partnership(s) with all the left back options. He also gives us something at set-pieces – where we used to be shit.

So – for me he has ‘settled in and is showing what he has been capable of for a long time’ – rather than ‘he has come good’.

BTW given the England CB options – how can this guy not be 1st name on the teamsheet in that position?

You'd think that with his partnership with Joe that he'd be a cert but the FA won't allow it. Too many City players would mean other teams fans wouldn't buy the tickets/shirts so they have to spead the team about. It's not what's best for England football, it's what's best for England's bank account.

Imho, the best thing that happend to City's defence was the suspension of Kolo. When Lesco steped in, he was class, of course he made mistakes, but he and Vinnie played extremly well.
Beside that, Lesco going in the squad, pushed Vinnie on the right side, were he became even better. When Kolo played, Vinnie was on the position were Lesco is now and he had some problems sometimes.
Like Ted said, i wouldn't swap him for any defender in the world.

Ted is right. It is difficult to integrate on a new planet, even Mandy Patinkin struggled and he is supercool, and we should extend him a hearty Mancunian welcome and let him feel the love. Anything else is cuntish.

Has been more consistent than Vinny all season. His performance against spain was immense. All this about him looking uncomfortable on the ball. He get the ball and moves it on. His defending has been outstanding and his character is respected within the squad. Well done Worph

Cant agree that he is better than vinny. No chance. Vinny is just a better footballer, end of argument. Lescott is doing very well this season, much improved on last season, and credit where credit is due, but lets be realistic and not get too carried away.

Judging from the impression given out on the OS, Twitter etc it also seems like he's a big influence on the rest of the team and seems like someone at the heart of our 'coming-together' as a team.

Price tag hasnt helped him but i think hes managing to shake that off now. I hope he's here for a long time to come.

I don't think anyone is arguing that Lescott is the better footballer.

Its the goals from corners that I love most about him. For Everton he would score 5- to 10 goals a season from corners, absolutely vital, as proven yesterday.

He'll know he's made it once Mancini stops referring to him as 'Julian'.

I don't think it helped him when he first came that he had Wayne fuckin Bridge playing to the left of him.

It's clear from the reaction of his team mates that he's one of the core figures at the club. People talk about dumping him & bringing in all kinds of untried characters. If David Luiz hadn't signed for Chelsea, a lot of people on here would have happily swapped him for Lescott; that's how ridiculous it can get.

The PL isn't like a continental league where people can get by with a bit of nice technique, it's a muggers alley where you have to face a different challenge every week. Not many CB's can do the job that Lescott & Vinny do, & when we do eventually find a replacement for Lescott, the bloke is going to have to be a bit special; not just a nice passer of the ball but hard as fucking nails, week in week out.
