Lescott has played well the last few games but he has also lost us games...it is also a fact that he has won us games as well...so it probably balances out in the end.

I just want a better footballer in that position.....at least to compete with him.

Bloody hell Carl..that's almost a backhanded Lescott compliment

The worm is turning!

I compliment where its due mate...Alien head has played well lately..probably reads my posts and realizes he has to fuckign pass the ball forwards now and again instead of trapping it and passing it backwards or to our winger thats surrounded by opposing players !

The own goal at liverpool was not his fault. As a defender, your first instinct has to be to block the shot, he didn't have time to chance it and look behind him. That was just unlucky.

Cant remember a game where i dont get frustrated by his totally lack of creativity where to pass the ball,
pointless passing him beacuse he will send it right back, he's allso to slow sorting out he's feet.
Was suprised he went for goal and not a backpass at Villa!
Better than Kompany this season?? Please stop.. Would like to see Kolo back and a replacement in the summer.

What a fucking epic fail this post is.

You honestly think the lot of us reckon lescott has improved immensely to be a top defender... Because he scored against villa?

Oh dear.

I roll with this cr3w. Almost a must signing.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Lescott's had a great season and has definitely been the stronger out of the 2 CBs overall this season. He's not world class but is a very good defender. Kompany had a slow start to the season but was getting into form before the suspension and I expect him to be a key player for us in the rest of the season.

A lot of people keep commenting on Lescott passing backwards or sideways all the time, but I'd rather he do that and pass to one of our players than keep going for long balls as Kompany does far too often. I have no idea why he does it so frequently.

For the record, I'm a big Kompany fan, but if people are going to be so critical of Lescott, then they need to be equally critical of Kompany.

This is my point entirely. There is very little to choose between the two yet Vinny gets rated as one of the best & Lescott some kind of liability. Lescott probably does more actual defending than any other player in our squad yet NEVER will anyone show a compilation of Lescott defending, always Vinny. When Lescott drops a bollock, it gets shown six times along with comments of how he's not quite good enough. Vinny does the same; 'out of character' move on.

Vinny occasionally attempts daft passes & wastes the ball, Lescott tries to keep it in order to let the footballers take over. Both are iffy on the ball under pressure, which is when we need the midfield to come & take the ball off them.

I'd be delighted if we sign someone better than Lescott but I'd also be delighted if Lescott stays to compete for a place with him as he may actually get better as he gets older; he's never been the quickest so has to rely on his wits. Whatever happens, we should not underestimate his contribution to this team. If we lose the league, it won't be down to goals conceded.

I think that a lot has to be said about the fact that nobody has questioned it when it's been posted that Lescott has played better than Vince this year.

He's showing signs of working on his passing by the way - dunno if Doug can comment on anything from training... certainly seemed more accurate in the last game and a bit more confident too.

no need for an apology. Grammer, as yr wont to say, is hard mate. Hard.

Because he was up against shite. If a better team close him down, he will play it simple & the midfield should come & deal with it & build the play; It's their job, not his.

This, Lescott does the defensive side well, it's not his duty to spray pinpoint, 40 yard passes or set up attacks. Sure it would be a nice bonus if he did but it's not a necessity as some would suggest.

You make it sound like everything else he does is excellent when in fact its far from excellent........... He SHOULD be able to spray passes......they do at Barcelona..they do at Real Madrid....they do at other top teams and we should have a player that does as well.

End of.

I don't expect him to spray 40 yard passes to a teammate - that's what the midfielders are there for. I just want him to stop shitting himself every time he is on the ball and instead to pass it to one of the full backs or midfielders instead of back to kompany or hart as he does far too often thus putting more pressure on us

This is just an unfair, untrue prception. He passes to tne fullbacks, they give it back, he passes to Vinny, he gives it back, he passes to,Barry, he gives it back, he passes to De,Jong, he gives it,back. If Lescott is so fucking shit compared to Vinny, why doesn't Vinny pass it elsewhere ? Why if he's so much better, does he keep giving Lescott, the ball & why do people such as yourself, think it's ok ?

Ted - Lescott is a mediocre FOOTBALLER..we all know this and is one of the reasons why I want to see a better replacement..this doesn't mean getting rid of an above average defender (which is what Lescott is imo).

He does pass the ball to the wing nearly always or back to Hart...and if its to the winger then it is nearly always when the winger is under pressure..he does this too often imo.....last game was his best game for us all season and played very well and passed the ball around a lot more..even darting runs up field a la Vinny and should look to be doing this once in a while instead of once in a blue moon.

Vinny is also just as bad as Lescott as far as passing the ball is concerned..but Vinny is a million times better footballer than Lescott is or will ever be..he brings more to the table than Lescott does and that's why he can be forgiven some lapses.

That is bang on. I used the term "uncomfortable", I think "shitting himself" sums it up better.

Well if you look at the post I was replying to, he is being accused of never passing to the wing. You can't both be right.

Imo Vinny is a bit better on the ball than Lescott in real life, in spite of his ability, & plays more bad passes. Sven & Hughes spent ages trying to get Richard Dunne to do exactly what Lescott does ie; not give the ball away all the time. I've just watched Barca & once again, the defence created pretty much nothing. They either give it to Alvez & co or the midfield come & take it from them. Relying on CB's to create is a no no in my book unless you are Everton or Stoke or Wimbledon. It is the job of the midfield to take responsibility & stop giving the big fucking trogs the ball. They should only be used as a wall pass for the midfield to create, not be given the job of doing it. They are defenders.
