Robinho

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Robinho

Postby Bridge'srightfoot » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:31 am

Numerous times during the match the other night and in newspapers they've described Robinho as a city flop and as someone who never settled but does no one else think that's harsh? Whilst he didn't perform consistently, he still managed 14 goals in a poor side and numerous assists, he also produced some brilliant displays and moments of real magic. Whilst he perhaps wasn't as good as we expected I still see him as being a decent player for us. The media seem intent on pointing him out as a flop of Torres or Carroll proportions.

I personally thought he was quality! Made Ireland look like a world beater and was our top scorer in his first season.
His attitude was the problem though.

Imagine going to the Swamp & Spurs earlier in the season with Robinho up front & imagine what the result would have been & what his performance would have looked like.

There's your answer.

Well it depends which Robbie turned up. A Robbie on top form would destroy most teams.

But we know which one would turn up; the one which always turns up in games like that, for City , for Milan & for Brazil.

He was important as one of the first really 'big names/players' to come to us. He somewhat paved the way (that and money). Besides that he did rather well in my opinion. His first season that obviously is. Too bad for him he was not scouted on mentality and perseverance. Although he is a regular started for AC Milan, he never really lived up to his potential - or hype maybe - besides in the Brazil national team in one of the Copa's.

So all and all he did okay, but being such a big player you'd expect more, especially on concerning his motivation.

I suppose the issue I was getting at though is that the media try and point him out as if he was a flop like Torres when he wasn't really.

That's fair enough, he did turn in some great performances here and there, which Torres hasn't, but they were almost always at home, and in games where the oppo was, well, Arsenalish in their defending.

I have no deep feelings towards him unlike most people. I knew he was complete jester when we signed him but he showed the world that we mean business. We used him and he used us. Served his purpose and when we had stronger and more suitable players got rid of him.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Robinho was the best marketing and global advertising campaign money we ever spent.

Plonked us front and centre on the football map, confirmed we meant business and laid the pathway for the bigger and better players that followed. I dont particularly like or hate Robinho, he doesnt really mean anything bar an advertising tool in our history.

I would even argue that he won me over in his first season, a bit at least. Always thought he was a bullshit circus attraction with his step over antics, but he showed there's more to his game when he can be arsed.

Too bad he's a wimp, could've been a great player.

The excitement when he was signed was just incredible. The home game against Chelsea which followed, even though we lost was brilliant, the noise in the ground when he scored!

He had the bottle to come here in the first place when we didn't have ANY well known players. He started it off.

Funnily had this argument with a lad in work, he said he was a flop and why couldnt he play for city like he did for milan the other night, i pointed out he wasnt a flop and there occasions when he did play like that, for eg the home match to pompey we won 6nil against old harry, he wasnt great that day harry was he?! We also got a decent chunk of the cash back when we sold him so the loss on him wasnt the worse. I have fond memories of him and in another world he is a top player unfortunately that world isnt the english premier league.

And as someone said he started the new wave and announced we had arrived, it was right time and right place for him thats how we ended up with him, i wouldnt say in the cold light of day anyone with their head screwed on would of bought him for that money as our 1st big signing.
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

since he left, he's slagged off the club at every opportunity and publicly discouraged other players from considering a move to MCFC. can't believe ppl are getting all nostalgic for this clown!!

We've not had an "I miss Robinho" thread for ages, and I for one have missed not having them ;-)
