He's on a purple patch right now and seems to be scoring for fun, but if you look at his game it is quite evident that he lacks that extra bit of pace necessary to take the final step.

There are plenty of youngsters who have set the Dutch league alight for half a season or a season to then fall from grace. One good example is the Swede Marcus Berg, who went to Groningen when he was twenty. He had a difficult first season, but was outstanding the second season and also became MVP in the Euros for under 21's. He was then sold to Hamburg where he flopped, then loaned to PSV where he flopped, and is now back in Hamburg where he can't even make the bench. And going on pure football qualities, I actually rate Berg higher than Guidetti.

It's funny one this. On one hand he seems to possess something you wouldn't expect from 19 year old on the other hand there's some rawness in his technical side of his game top talent maybe shouldn't have.

One thing is for sure though. We need to give him chance of some sorts next season. Otherwise it will be hard to attract youth talent in future as we'd get labelled as a team that doesn't give chances no matter what you do.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

He certainly deserves to be given a few chances next season on the back of this one.

I totally agree on that. I don't think he will make it, but we will never know if we don't give him the chance.

I'm not sure he'll make it but re NQDP's post; as I've said before, I think Guidetti looks less talented on the ball than he actually is. He can shoot with both feet & is decent with his head. He can beat a man, he can put a cross in. I very much doubt if his 1st touch is any worse than most of our 1st team. When he does get it wrong however, he looks shite; he just has an ungainly look about him. Dzeko suffers from the same thing imo.

It's possible that he'll get nervous & we'll see the bad & not the good & everyone will say 'WTF is this!'. It's also very possible imo that the extra desire & personality Guidetti has, compared to some of our players, will come through & the fans will take to him, flaws and all, like they have in Holland. In that case, both could spur each other on to greater things.

Just to mention: the side against which John Guidetti scored a ht trick two weeks ago, beat Manchester Utd at Old Trafford last night.

He doesn't want to play for us next season if he is on the bench.

Was it not more that if he's not going to get any decent gametime he would rather go elsewhere?

Can't blame him and i think that if CT is sold he absolutely will get some reasonable time on the pitch. If CT stayed then John wouldn't get a sniff really so I would do the same in his shoes. I'd also be asking the club (in the summer) to play a straight bat and enable me to take the appropriate career choices.

He's said nothing wrong whatsoever IMO

He has done well in a low league but IMO we need to see if he can perform in the PL.
A loan, like Chelsea did sending Sturridge to Chelsea, would see if he can perform at the higher level.
My main concern in having him back as a 4th striker is that he has not shown a particularly good attitude, and has made it clear he would be very unhappy as a "bit part player."
I saw him play for the reserves last year and although he is a very powerful lad for his age, I'm not sure he has enough pace for the PL.

There are plenty of players who don't have pace up front but are still successful goal scorers in the Premier League. Crouch, Dzeko to name two.

If you are going to be the hold up player/poacher, you hold a position rather than using pace to dribble past players or to get to a particular position to do your business as per Sergio.

If we can't accomodate Dzeko by playing to his strengths, I see little chance of us playing to the strengths of a 19 year old though, so don't see much future for him if he doesn't have a top drawer all round game.

Couldn't agree more.
If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, it's just possible that you haven't really grasped the gravity of the situation.
