Come Home Danny Boy

Just knew it when Silva picked him as the most skilful player in the league in that Sky interview!

Man City Line Up Move for £20m Chelsea Youngster

Etihad Stadium boss keen on Stamford Bridge attacker.

ARSENAL aren’t the only club eyeing Chelsea’s England striker Daniel Sturridge.

So is Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini, who can’t understand how his club lost him to Chelsea in the first place.

But the problem for City is that the sums don’t add up in terms of trying to bring Sturridge, 22 back to Manchester.

They were awarded an eventual figure of £6.5million for him by a tribunal, as compensation when he made his out-of-contract move to Stamford Bridge three years ago.

But even though City are also entitled to 15 per cent of any sell-on fee, they would still take a financial hit if they pre-signed him – as his value has now increased to at least £20m after a string of sensational displays.

Sturridge has two-and-a-half years remaining on his Chelsea contract but is said to be looking for a new, improved deal to stay in West London.

Daniel Sturridge left Man City six months before Roberto Mancini arrived and perhaps the Etihad Stadium boss is right to be confused as to why the Premier League table toppers allowed the talented attacker to leave but one wonders if a move back to the club would suit the 22 year old.

The Chelsea man is currently used out wide but would prefer to play in an orthodox striking position but would the youngster manage to secure a regular spot in either position at Man City? Given that Mancini has the likes of Sergio Aguero, Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko as striking options, all scoring goals and all relatively young.

Then out wide the Italian has quality options like David Silva, Adam Johnson, Samir Nasri and James Milner to call upon, to name just four, so a move for Sturridge would be an odd one to consider.

This source points out that Arsenal are keen on the Blues man and such a move would make far more sense given the over-reliance the North London club places on Robin Van Persie.

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has shown a lot of faith in Sturridge, far more than Carlo Ancelotti, and the Portuguese boss is clearly planning for the future and as such may well value the England international more highly than the likes of Didier Drogba, Fernando Torres and Salomon Kalou when it comes to long term plans so perhaps the Birmingham born forward would do well to ignore other offers and look to help his West London side regain their position as genuine title contenders.

Sorry, if I posted the interview clip from the Sky coverage of the Blackburn game it would immediately get blocked on copyright grounds because it shows match footage. It may be available elsewhere tho' - favourite grounds, team joker, best trainer, best goal, best assist etc - but I've not seen it yet.

I actually don't think he is all that. The reason AVB doesn't play him in the middle is his finishing still isn't up to scratch. He has improved massively though to be fair.

Good call, AJ seems to be struggling to make an impression under Mancini

Translation - AJ is playing crap.

Agree that Sturridge would be ideal for our 4th striker now. He would've got 30 goals in this team, playing up front, not stuck out as wing back/winger (ish).

Sturridge is okay not great or good enough for us,bit of a selfish prick majority of games. Never have the same impact as we'd like him to have. Better players available for 20m

I'm with carl and wouldn't touchhim with a bargepole. He is another Tevez waiting to happen. Whatever his abilities on the pitch, he is not what we need at this point of the project.

What we need now is to build for the long term, players who improve the team and are here for the long term or as long as wee need them. The last thing we need is another self centred upstart who can't see beyond his next upgraded pay packet and who is a risk to stability.

It amazes me how some people are still happy to base their opinion on Danny with the utter shite our ex manager spread rather than the evidence of their own eyes, anyone who watched him come up through the youth team could see he was heading right to the top, and thats exactly what he has done, a cert for England and its no wonder Roberto fancies him back at ours with the way he has played for Chelsea.

remember this story from just before Christmas?

Sturridge should never have left us, says Mancini

Manager claims 'one that got away' would be in City's star-studded first team.
Steve Tongue

Sunday 11 December 2011

Daniel Sturridge was jettisoned by Mark Hughes

Roberto Mancini, Manchester City's manager, says he cannot understand why the club allowed Daniel Sturridge to join their rivals Chelsea, and he is worried that City will pay when the teams meet in a vital Premier League game at Stamford Bridge tomorrow night. The England forward was allowed to leave two years ago, while Mark Hughes was City's manager, after he demanded wages reported to be £55,000 a week. A tribunal fixed the transfer fee at£3.5 million, which has subsequently risen to £6.5m, including £1m when he won a first full cap last month.

After scoring eight goals in 12 games for Bolton on loan last season, Sturridge has been in outstanding form and displaced Nicolas Anelka, who will be allowed to leave in January.

Mancini said: "I asked him last year, 'Why did you leave Manchester City?' and he said he doesn't know. It was strange, because someone let him out of the club. For sure he was one of the best young players that was here. Sometimes it's difficult with a young player, but it was not difficult to see if Sturridge was a good player. If he was here today he'd be in the first team."

Chelsea go into the game 10 points behind City but their manager, Andre Villas-Boas, has said they will still be in contention for the title if they win.

Yesterday, second-placed Manchester United reduced City's lead to two points by beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-1, with two goals each from Wayne Rooney and Nani. Third-placed Tottenham, five points behind United, travel to Stoke today.

None of my opinion was formed from any info from any of our managers, in fact, I didn't even know that any of our managers had made any statements about Sturridge. Further to that, if you mean Hughes (why didn't name him rather than being vague), my initial point about his prevarication, happened before Hughes was around.
