Today was my first training session in managing the girls school team. Quite a good turn out!! 15 actually. While i set the equipment out i sent them round for a little jog around the pitch stretching at every corner. When they came back i introduced myself and they got telling me there names and what position they play and so on. They actually wrote that down on a piece of paper so i can think about my first game in charge on Thursday!!!!! (Cant wait!!)
I then came onto the first drill of the training session-Dribbling. I had set out cones and they split up into groups and practiced dribbling round each cone and then running back with the ball and passing it back to the next person to go. They were actually pretty good but arnt girls suppose to have good ball skills anyway! :)
Session 2 was Passing. I split them into a few groups again and they passed the ball to whoever. 2 touch, One to control and one to pass. And then when they made the pass they ran into the persons space who had recieved the ball and that carries on!
Then after a few minutes on that they stayed in there groups but one person was a defender and they had to try and niok the ball away. If successful they then pass the bib to the person who they got the ball of and they are on and that carries on.
My final drill of the day was shooting practice. I first told them how to shoot the ball properly.(Hit it with the laces or sidefoot in if close to the goal) And then i got the team keeper to go in Goal and i rolled out the ball to the girls to hit inside the penalty area and they did quite well and then i tried it outside the box and it wasnt the best but hey ho!! Practice makes perfect. The keeper was actually pretty good. Will need a bit of work on but she will get it!!
At the end we got into a bit of a game. Not full size though. And i got to see how the girls can actually play football and was pretty good to be fair. I took a few notes and things to improve on next Monday!
Overall a good session and see how we get on on Thursday!!
