I hope our owners have taken notice of the events at Chelsea. A very successful team over the past few years that has slowly declined. All sides need renewing and refreshing and that hasn'y happened. Partly due to chopping and changing managers. Hiddink and Grant (and I suppose De Matteo now) have beem stop gap appointments - so change wasn't part of the job description. Scolari and AVB did have a brief to revamp the squad but weren't able to sort things out. I suspect because they couldn't carry the Lampards and Terrys with them. Ancellotti seems to have been the most successful of the post-Jose bunch, but, after the sacking of Wilkins had his position undermined - at least that's how it looked on the surface.
It's not so much that they've made a mistake sacking the various managers, there've been good reasons in most cases, but, finding the right man to take the club forward has proved to be a problem.
So, what's all this got to do with us. Well, first, I'm not saying that we should stick with Bobby come what may. For example, if there was some sort of collapse that we finished fifth, or even third or fourth, then, unless there were some damned good reasons (Silva, Yaya, Kun and Vincent all getting their legs broken for example) then we'd be looking for a new manager.
Either way, at the end of the season Mancini only has a year left on his contract. At the moment we don't have a CEO, so it's difficult to know who's in charge of planning. But, there are some important decisions to be made and a range of eventualities to prepare for. I hope somebody is mapping out the way forward - something that doesn't seem to be happening at Chelsea.
