I actually prefer the commentary in a foreign language. You can still hear the crowd noise and the names, but dont have to listen to the likes of Francis and Waddle spouting interminable crap.

However the PL seems to have forgotten it's own success principles. When it came together with SKY, I remember everyone saying that all this over-exposure opn TV will kill the game, there wont be any spectators etc.

But it turned out the more exposure there was, the more appetite for the game was developed, and everything increased - crowds, viewing figures, merchandising.

From that point of view I think they are shooting themselves in the foot.

lets all have a disco wrote:If this is the case why dont sky give us what we want?

Which is the choice to see whichever game we want aka City vs Swansea at 2pm on Sunday.

That isnt at issue.

The sole issue here is 3pm games on saturday which the pl have always sought to protect. Other games, such as 2pm sunday are not affected.

I think there is a deeper issue at play here, which is that the original agreement about not broadcasting 3pm saturday games was designed to protect the attendances of smaller clubs in the football league.

It wouldnt surprise me if some of this is down to the football league claiming that the premier league are in breach of their agreement by not enforcing it.

On the other hand, it is probably also the case now that with the proliferation of foreign broadcasts, sky may well have been putting pressure on to say that if they arent going to enforce the agreement, why can they not broadcast at 3pm in the future - which in an instant would remove much of the need for foreign broadcasts and would probably allow the pl to charge them more and retain better control of their product and rights

Attendances havent increased in the lower leagues - this issue was never about attendances in the premier league

This just reiterates what I've been saying for years, who not creat a team channel on Sky which everyone pays for their team and it shows all the games? I'd pay a massive subscription to watch all the city games in HD as I find it very difficult to get to games.

I really don't know how this revenue generator has been overlooked to be honest.

Cos it'd mean empty stadiums and i don't think the premier league/most clubs would let that happen.

It's because of the collective way our clubs operate.

The likes of the rags etc can't play a game without an opponent & all their opponents demand a say in how the tv rights are disposed.

At some point in the future however, the big clubs may flex their muscles regarding this.

It would be like turkeys voting for xmas in the pl so it would never happen as it would completely destroy the competition as any sort of spectacle as it has in spain.

In addition, only the likes of united, barca and real would be able to make an individual rights agreement pay, as i dpnt believe that there is enough global following for any other clubs, including liverpool.

It's about choice, I do not want Sky or ESPN telling me what matches to watch. I would like to choose a match to watch of all available.

Don't know.

I don't spend much time worrying about multi billion pound making companies though. There big and nasty enough to look after themselves.

In the early days it was often referred to as the FA premier league.

Was even on the balls I'm pretty sure. Remember having one and loving it.

So? No different than taping things in the past and yet the music industry still hasn't died.

Not got the football though, as you can't sign up anymore. Like others, I would be interesting in paying Sky/the Premier League to be able to watch away games. Saying that, I wouldn't want a Spanish system here, with individual rights agreed. The collective bargaining is in the interest of the league as a whole, but it would be good if more games were televised.
