I have 2 questions/comments on this :

1. What brought this about ? What exactly did Fifa steal from England. Is Fifa now saying that football was invented in Switzerland ? The remark about China came after Sir Dave had dropped his bollocks !
Fifa is a joke and an over inflated corrupt organisation but they still give the UK special status by allowing it to have 4 members, something that no other country in the world has the right to do. If this was the case, I think Catalonia would be able to field an awesome team. I would rather see them play in a World Cup than say, Northern Ireland !!
So again, what did Fifa steal ?

2. Qatar is not a dry place as Sir Dave claimed (and the Bolton guy confirmed ) and you can get "a pint" in plenty of places there. Whether they will allow beer to be sold at the stadiums is something that I don't know, but would that be so bad ? However I'm sure that Fifa have/will address this point as in the end it's a money maker and they will not let that opportunity pass !

If they allow beer, it will only be Budweiser™ brand served in official commemorative glasses from pre-approved vendors in select locations. FIFA will say that it is to protect fans from sub-par beverage consumption troubles and to give fans a more memorable match day experience. When in reality, Budweiser™ just paid them a fuckload of cash. And with FIFA cash is king

Well with regards point 2, they are trying to force Brazil to change a law forbidding alcohol sales due to a clear problem with hooliganism. Ricardo Teixera the bent cunt in charge over there has just been forced out finally - hopefully the govt will dig their heels in as that will fuck FIFA good and proper.

If it's not in line with the faith of the inhabitants of the country, then that brings up other issues. Firstly the bent cunt in charge of Qatar's FA shouldnt have bid for the world cup if it was clear that alcohol was to be a part of the tournament, and secondly why would Fifa award a world cup to a region where some of their main sponsors were likely to be excluded from a: selling their products, and b: advertising at the game.

I can only imagine that either Qatar have chosen to ignore their religious beliefs when bidding, or FIFA told them it wouldnt be a problem.

Maybe because all the cunts who have trousered the bungs for this in Qatar and at Fifa will be long retired by the time the problem needs to be sorted out.

I think it relevent to point out the mechanism of accepted perception here.

Richards makes statement and at some point slips. The media pick their angle and make him out to be an idiot. the merits of what he actually said are not discussed, other than to be absorbed into the story as the ramblings of an imbercile. The public accept the media reportage as true and thus Richards is percieved as an imbercile who talks shite.

City have no history, our Sheiks are ruining football with their huge investments, we buy players without regard to developing youth.....and so on....and so on...and so on. The public accept it as true.....therefore it becomes the truth in the publics' mind.

The rags havea massive history (despite 37 years with no trophy). The ramblings of Taggart are the utterences of a mastermind genius, the rags develop their own youth and the limited amounts they have spent are gained through their success on the pitch....etc.

See a pattern yet?

I don't really give a fuck but if our sheikh was to be stickler for the rules we should not be selling haram stuff at COMS such as the meat and booze,so I think the people from Qatar who are arranging this are only doing what the muslim world expects them to.
They don't have champers at the F1 race because of this.
Their excuse for doing such is that the customers (primarily non-believers) want come to their place and as they are non-believers it is alright to do so.
However it could be interpretted as haram

When England lost the 2006 and 2018 bids there was a frenzy in the media. Pretty much saying what Richards said so it is highly hypocritical of the same outlets painting him as a pantomime bad guy.

The 2006 bid stank of arrogance, something that the FA tried to learn from for the 2018 bid. It was only after the bid failed that the arrogance reappeared.

The BBC showed us what we already knew just before decision time, FIFA is a corrupt. But it was Dave Richards himself that branded the BBC unpatriotic. Now he wants to tell the world how they should be greatful they should all be to England. He failed to mention during his little speech that the FA ruled football for their own good and supressed South American FA's from having an active say in how football was run. Those other FA's remember what it was like when the FA ran football and wont let it happen again.

Of course England would host a wonderful World Cup. But so would many countries. I for one would love to see a World Cup in Australia but it economically would not work The world changes and places like the BRICK countries will always seem the more attractive option when it comes to sponsors and developing the games brand. Looking at it objectively (honest) For me it was obvious that the 2018 bid was always going to go to Russia. The only people I felt sorry for where Australia and America who lost out to Qatar. You could not pay me to go to Qatar. World Cup or not.

Slagging off UEFA? Is that same people who always reserve a place on the board for someone from the home countries? Awarded England a CL and UEFA Cup final? Perhaps Dave wants a bye to the semi finals for England at 2012 as well. Regardless of the rights and wrongs of UEFA there goes any chance of England hosting a European Championship in the near future.

One slight point though regarding his 'beer culture' speech. I would bet my house on it that he taking some cash from somewhere to act as a lobbyist for the beer manufacturing world. So let's say you will be able to buy beer in Qatar. It will be an official beer supplier like Budweiser and Miller. I'd rather drink my own piss. Anyone who actually likes a beer would feel the same way.

Finally, So what that it costs £10 a pint in Qatar. Should that restrict a Scandinavian country from hosting a Euro's again? I am sure that people coming from Eastern Europe for a football game don't really enjoy paying for beers in London.

Ross,
Much, if not all of what you say about the English role in football if very true and if you had added the role and attitude of Sir Stanley Rous whilst the head of FiFa, regarding his views on apartheid/South Africa/Rhodesia, or the manner which FiFa, under English control limited the World Cup to the great and good, you would find no argument from me.

That is not the point that Richards was making.

Just read today in a local paper a response from a member of Qatar 2022 organising comitee and he said that they are intalks with Fifa to resolve the beer issue. Basically he said said beer will be allowed in some "fan areas". Don't know what that means exactly.
However, it seems that this is not a Qatar issue only as Brazil and Russia also do not allow selling beer at football stadiums !! Obviously not for religious but security reasons but the net result is the same.
