Fabrice Muamba: Roberto Mancini calls for more medical screenings
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini says Premier League players should be given two medical screenings each year.
The Italian believes current health assessments are not "accurate" enough.
"When I saw our medical [procedures] two years ago, I was worried. I said we need to do them better," he said.
Mancini made his comments shortly after chief executive Richard Scudamore revealed the Premier League will review its medical procedures after Fabrice Muamba's cardiac arrest.
Medics spent six minutes trying to resuscitate Bolton midfielder Muamba after he collapsed against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The level of care owed much to the changes by the Premier League following Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech's fractured skull in 2006.
But City boss Mancini insists medical procedures in England are still not as thorough as those in Italy.
"We need to improve the medical side for the players," he added. "It's better in Italy.
"We need to screen the players often, maybe two times a year, and they have to be more accurate.
"What happened to Muamba can happen and that should be impossible."
Muamba was rushed to the intensive care unit of the heart attack centre at the London Chest Hospital immediately after receiving first aid following his collapse in the 42nd minute of the FA Cup quarter-final tie.
This contrasted with the claims of then Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho that it took 30 minutes for an ambulance to arrive for Cech six years ago.
A South Central Ambulance Service NHS Trust spokesman countered the Portuguese's statement and told BBC Radio 5 live that it took seven minutes.
Chelsea made an official complaint that led to a Premier League and Football Association review, from which fresh measures were introduced that included an ambulance being in place at stadia for the exclusive use of players, and club doctors attending every game.
Bolton's Gary Coyle and Phil Gartside express their thanks for the messages of support
"[We are] looking at every aspect of what happened and if there are ways and means of improving," said Scudamore on Tuesday.
"Incidents and events shape policy, shape developments, shape progress.
"It's been a difficult three days for everybody involved in the game, particularly those closest to Fabrice.
"The whole of the last three days, we've played out lots of scenarios, clearly.
"In some ways, his life, if it is saved - and let's hope it has been saved - is as a result of the things a lot of us put in place after what happened with Petr Cech.
"If you saw what happened on Saturday, the immediate attention, everybody comes out of this with huge credit, the referee, the match officials, the way the medics were there.
"Jose Mourinho made some strident comments about the treatment that Petr Cech got. Everything that we've put in place since helped Fabrice at least have a chance."

Spurs sweat over City's interest in Hazard as Harry fears being priced out of £35m move
Tottenham will ask to be kept informed over negotiations between Manchester City and Lille for Eden Hazard.
Spurs fear they will be unable to match City’s wage offer should Roberto Mancini pursue his interest.
Mancini made a personal scouting visit to France on Sunday night.
The City manager watched the coveted Belgium international score in Lille's emphatic 4-0 victory against Valenciennes - a week after rival United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was in the stands to monitor the 21-year-old.
Last week, Spurs chief Harry Redknapp publicly revealed his admiration for the forward, hinting chairman Daniel Levy is ready to fund a summer bid for the player rated at £35million by the French high-flyers.
But City seemingly do not want Hazard to slip through the net and the Belgian admitted after the match that he was aware Italian Mancini was watching him.
'I was aware that Roberto Mancini was there,' Hazard told French TV station Canal+.
'The manager (Rudi Garcia) told me... I wasn't thinking about it. I was trying to play to the best of my abilities.

Carlos Tevez set for Man City bench - Roberto Mancini
Carlos Tevez could make his return for Manchester City as a substitute in Wednesday's league match against Chelsea says boss Roberto Mancini.
Tevez, 28, has not played since September and spent three months absent without leave from the club.
"It's possible," said Mancini when asked about selecting Tevez.
"He is getting better but I don't think Carlos can have more than 25-30 minutes. He needs to play but for 90 minutes it is impossible."

Tevez like a new signing for City - Hart
Joe Hart believes the return of Carlos Tevez comes at the ideal time to boost Manchester City's Premier League title bid.
Tevez has not played for City since September, but having reconciled his differences with the club hierarchy is expected to be on the bench for City's crunch clash against Chelsea on Wednesday.
And with the Argentina international set to return to the City side for the first time in six months, Hart believes it will be like having a new signing on the pitch.
"I haven't actually trained with him," Hart said in The Sun. "But those who have assure me he's doing really well. It's down to the manager to assess it. But a fully fit and firing Carlos has got to be a positive for us.
"We've got energy in the team and we've got a lot of firepower. But Carlos brings us more of that. The strikers who are here now have got us in a position where we could get a record points tally in the league. But having Carlos back will be like a new signing."
Defeat to Swansea nine days ago saw City surrender their lead at the top of the Premier League for the first time since October, but Hart believes his side are capable of gunning down leaders Manchester United.
"It doesn't feel good," Hart said. "As soon as the whistle went at Swansea, we knew. We didn't need to check the results, we knew what would have gone on elsewhere.
"We were hurt and we'll show how hurt we are with our performance on Wednesday against Chelsea. Now we have to push on, we have a big game against Chelsea. We need to focus on what we're doing and we should be OK.
"One result can literally change everything. It's madness but it's great. Being four points behind won't have any bearing on how we play.
"I've never won [the league] so it's hard to know what a title-winning side feels like. But we've got a good spirit, good attitude.
"And I'm sure anyone who has won a title will tell you that's what is required. We have all the ingredients. All we're short of is the medal round our necks."

Brighton extend loan deal of Man City's Gai Assulin
Brighton & Hove Albion have extended the loan stay of Manchester City's creative midfielder Gai Assulin until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old Israeli has made four appearances for the Seagulls since joining last month.
Brighton boss Gus Poyet said: "He's been out for a while and needs to play to get back to his best.
"We think he's the type of player that perfectly suits the way we play. Everybody gains from this situation."
Assulin wrote on his Twitter page: "Just extended my loan with Brighton till the end of the season!! Really happy!!"

Man City line up swap deal with Real Madrid's Higuain as Dzeko nears exit
Edin Dzeko could leave Manchester City this summer in a swap deal with Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain.
Dzeko has become frustrated at a lack of first-team opportunities at the Etihad Stadium, making just 14 league starts this term.
With Carlos Tevez due to return, Dzeko could slip further down the pecking order.
Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is a huge admirer of the Bosnia international, who has scored 18 times for City this season.
And according to The Sun, Roberto Mancini would be interested in pairing Gonzalo Higuain with his Argentina team-mate Sergio Aguero next season.
The 24-year-old is in his sixth season at the Bernabeu and is open to a move.

Thanx Chinners.

The fact that Lille's manager is telling Hazard about Mancini being in the crowd is a pretty definite indication that they have decided he can be available for transfer imo.

I see we've knocked £46 million off Hulk's transfer fee by taking the piss out of him.

It's becuse they are trying to make the fans see the importance of not creating a bad atmosphere. They are worried about our reaction so keep pushing the message in the media, the same way Utd are worried about us winning the league so keep pushing their messages in the media.

They seem to have forgotten how shit he was when he could be bothered getting off the bench this season. But the 6 months playing golf must have done wonders for him the way they are wanking over him.

Haha, good point. I'm worried that everyone is expecting tevez to be the saviour that is going to win us the title when in reality he hasn't played football for the best part of 6 months. As Ashton says when he did play for us earlier in the season he didn't do a great deal - why do people suddenly expect things to be different now?

Perhaps the players know what really went on when Mancini told him to get out on the field? Tevez says he spoke to him like a dog? Maybe this is true? He should have gone out , its his freaking job , I agree....but on the website, everyone seems to be having a good time having him back? Just saying, two sides to every story. Could just be PR though ! :)
