Are we more likely to spend big this summer if we come 2nd?

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Are we more likely to spend big this summer if we come 2nd?

Postby Sideshow Bob » Tue Mar 27, 2012 5:01 pm

it's clear we need some new blood this summer. not wholesale changes, but at least a speedy winger (or 2) and a striker to replace tevez and/or dzeko. probably another CB, too. the question is: assuming FFP is not a factor, do you think our owners are more likely to spend big if we fail to win the PL this season?

I think more likely . But with the spending power we have now, whether we come in 5th or 1st...we are going to spend big. I think a winger with some wheels is the most important addition.

I am certain we will be in the market for a major center back signing.A winger also looks a priority purchase.

Not sure about a striker really depends on what happens with our current lot, could see Gudietti get his chance in the squad next season so if that happens maybe no need for any striker coming in.

Can anyone name a world class winger? And remember we dodged a bullet with Sanchez who isn't the most inspired transfer in the world.

What we're doing is even bigger than football. As much as it is a business, if Messi was available for 100mill I think we'd sign him.

Highly doubt if a world class player was available that would improve the team, the owners would suddenly say "oh no we're a bit skint".

New center back (push Joleon out of the starting 11 or be fine sitting on the bench) and a winger.

I'm interested to watch Nicolas Gaitan tonight vs. Chelsea as it is reported we are interested in him.
I'm not really a City fan. I'm just here for attention.

point taken. however, as we saw from the de rossi saga in january, bobby is not going to get everything he wants anymore. if we win the PL (and hence achieve our target for this season), Mansour might be content to roll with what we have next season, which would be a big mistake IMO.

I expect that regardless where we finish, we will probably spend about the same as we bring in.

United WILL spend on that midfield next summer, without any doubt. They can't keep patching Scholes and Giggs up and expecting them to play at the very top level.

And too old for the clubs strategy. Why do people continually not understand that the club will not again be spunking huge sums on players 28/29 who will have no resale value, a point Marwood has made again and again.

I can name one... Alexis Sanchez. Some of his positional play and off the ball movement is world class. He's the sort of player who could breakdown the Stoke's 9 man defensive line with clever movement and link up play.

Whatever we do if we can recoup the balkan cash i would, all three.
Sign Baines to replace Kolarov.
Sign a chocolate fireguard to replace Savic.
Sign Cavani to relace that whopper Dzeko.
He was never me,me,me but always you, you, you

as far as wingers go...lavezzi is the one. krasic or hoilett might be worth a punt depending on price.

Diver perhaps but the lad has major talent, suffers from lack of confidence at times however but with the "dad" mancini holding his hand could really shine.

That fact he is available on the cheap next summer and mancini is a known admirer lead me to think he is a very viable transfer target.

Mancini ruins players, he doesn't improve them and his penchant for rotating players no matter how good they are playing or how terrible the replacement is doesn't work wonders on our players confidence if you ask me. You can list the players that have improved against the ones he has had little or a depreciative affect on and one list will be much bigger than the other.

I was going to say Robben.
If the club sees it fit to purchase that one player who can bring home a title, they will go and get that player...no matter what his resale value. Sure, its not the smart way to operate on a day to day basis, but if we dont win the league this year....all options will be on the table.
