Rekik

Don't think it has been mentioned anywhere else but Karim is at Pompey and tonight got selected for the home game v Hull. Clean sheet and a 2 nil win cant be bad can it.Must look for a match report to see how he played.

This lad is quality.

Apparently he made an assist too.

Got incredibly high hopes for him.

Sounds like he really impressed.

Maguire was given the award by the sponsors, but he was one of many on the night who deserved it. George Thorne was quality from start to finish but my choice for the accolade is 17 year old Karim Rekik who looked very comfortable at left back and will give Michael Appleton a pleasant headache when it comes to team selection on Saturday.

Read a few bits and seems Rekik is gettting rave reviews. Excellent opening game and set one up.

I read somewhere that he might have replaced Tal Ben Haim, which would have been funny! But he played... so it wasn't.

If this lad gets a first team game & makes a few mistakes, I will still say drop him, but I will also say get behind him & bring him back at the rigt time because he seems to have loads of raw talent, & is very very young, wheras some players who we have brought in recently are in their 20's and......

Speaking of left backs I just watched Bridge playing for Sunderland, 2-0 loss and he got subbed off in the second half.

From the few glimpses I've had of him (in pre-season games and a couple of Cup sub appearances) I've been impressed. What I noticed him was his confidence and the way he fit in with team as if he's been playing with the seniors for years.
Interesting that he can also play at LB which makes him even a more exciting prospect for the future.

For a 17year old to go more or less straight into a championship side who are bottom and keep a clean sheet is excellent. he looks the real deal from what i have seen too and it wont be long until he is a vital member of our squad.

For those who have seen him more than me, where is his future centre half or left back? i think he played left back in the carling cup match but played centre half in the pre season matches i seen. I remember him not been the tallest but having a great leap on him, anyone got an idea how tall he is?

I see our old friend Kelvin Etuhu played as well. I always wondered where he'd end up, other than prison.

Just had a video meeting with a mate of mine who is a big Pompey fan and went last night.

Apparently the thought was that their mid field was pretty strong last night but their left back has been suffering injuries and a lack of match fitness so they asked Rekik to play in that position.

He says that for a seventeen year old who has been at the club for less than a week and barely knows his team mates and their system and that he was asked to play out of position, he was extremely impressed by the guy. He looked very confident and assured on the ball and was very keen to go forward, almost too keen at times.

He says that he made a telling contribution to the game and could be an extremely welcome player in their run in. He's offered two car park attendants and a programme seller as a transfer fee LOL.

Seen the lad play a few times and agree with Doug, he is indeed an outstanding prospect, but I said that about Dedryck and that one never quite worked out, although there is still time for that.

The raw material is there with Boyata. It's just down to whether City think he can actually learn how to use it. I've a feeling competition is going to get very very tough at reserve youth level over the next few years. I think the standard there is about to skyrocket.

I would agree that Rekik is on a different level than Boyata, certainly at his age.Just seems such a strong player both mentally and physically .

I really hope that using him as a left fullback was a one game decision. A 6 foot left fullback isn't the best player in the world, to be fair. They need to get him back in the center of defence and give him games. If he plays one season as a central defender in Championship, game after game, he can be a great player for our squad.

I like it tbh.

I don't see Rekik as being a first team CB next season but I could imagine him getting a few games if he can play fullback, & learning to get used to the pace etc. Then he could play as a 3rd CB when required, & learn from there. Gain experience without fucking up our defence & costing us competitions, like others have done.

I don't even know if he will deffo end up as a CB, I just know he looks class.
