Yaya points to title winning omen for City

Postby Mark (Blue Army) » Thu Mar 29, 2012 11:52 am

Yaya Toure is absolutely certain that Manchester City can turn the tables and pip Manchester United in the thrilling Mancunian title race - because he’s been through it all before.

In his last season at Barcelona, the Catalans had led for most of the season, then lost top spot to rivals Real Madrid with the winning post in sight.

Barca slipped up with a defeat at Atletico Madrid and then a draw at Almeria, and Madrid seized the initiative.

Barca steeled themselves, winning seven and drawing one of their last eight – including a victory at the Bernabeu – to lift the title.

Yaya says City’s task will be even tougher, as the Blues do not have the experience and years of playing together which that Barca team had.

But he still believes the desire and determination in the City dressing room will see them fight to the last.

And the impending return of Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero after injury, and Carlos Tevez’s return to action, are also good omens for the Blues, with the final straight in sight.

“When I was at Barcelona we managed the same thing,” said Yaya. “I think now will be more difficult because United are not the type of team who you can give anything.

“When you look at the programme they have, they have easier games than us. Maybe their only difficult game is away to us!

“So it will be very hard, but to keep up the pressure we have to win all of our games. We have to fight until the finish, and if we win the Premier League this year it would be amazing for the club and the fans.

“What we did at Barca was a perfect example of what we need to do now. But with Carlos back everything should be nice.”

But Yaya also believes that the Blues will be even stronger next season: “The thing at Barca was that we had known each other for two years. We played together for two years, and in the second year we won everything, picking up six cups.

“We were strong together. This time of year will be tough for City, but we are out of the other trophies now and will be getting more rest.

“At Barcelona we managed to get Xavi, Iniesta and Messi all fit and that made everything nice.

“With City, Sergio missed the Stoke game with a little injury but will be fit for Sunderland. Hopefully now we will get everyone fit, and take it game by game.

“We know it will be hard because United are a big club and have the experience of this. They are always first, and when they are first they usually stay like that until the finish.

“We need to concentrate and stay focused.”

The Blues managed to fulfil manager Roberto Mancini’s wish of staying top while Yaya and his brother Kolo were away at the African Nations Cup in January.

But United have proved dogged opponents, and City have struggled to maintain their away form.

The Toure brothers suffered the bitter disappointment of reaching the final of the international tournament and losing on penalties to Zambia.

Yaya cannot bear to think of suffering a second big let-down by losing out to United – and his heart goes out to Kolo, who found it hard to miss the Blues’ FA Cup triumph last season while serving a six-month drugs ban.

With Yaya substituted during the African final, Kolo also had the heartache of missing a penalty in the shoot-out.

“When you go to the final, finals are for winning, so I was really disappointed,” said Yaya.

“I have lost everything else this season – the African Cup, Champions League, the Europa League, FA Cup and Carling Cup, and so I will fight until the finish.”

Yaya said he wants to make the City fans happy by winning the league after suffering the pangs of not being able to ease the misery of his fellow Ivorians, who have suffered ten years of war and civil unrest.

“We wanted to win the cup to make our people happy, and feel good after the war we have had,” said the City star, who is the reigning African Footballer of the Year.

“Now we have only the Premier League, so we need to put pressure on United. We have difficult away games at Arsenal, and at Wolves who are fighting relegation, and at Norwich, but we need to keep working hard and taking chances.”

Mancini recently expressed his belief that both Samir Nasri and David Silva have the potential to become a top player, on a par with Barca stars Xavi and Andres Iniesta.

Yaya has played with both, and says the comparison is a fair one.

“Xavi and Iniesta are genius players,” he said. “They have played together for a long time and know each other well, and are at an unbelievable level.

“Samir and David are young but are also great players. They will continue to learn, but they are already great players.

“But Samir has just come from Arsenal and David is only in his second year at City. David has adapted better because Samir has only just come in, but he will help us to win everything.”

The big man also backed Silva to come through his recent dip in form.

“We need David,” he said. “He knows he is an important player for our team.

“But this is the big difference between Premier League and La Liga – in Spain you don’t have the pressure, while here you have to be quicker.

“Silva has been a little bit down but he will soon be back.”

Are Omens going to help us go to The Emirates and win on the 8th April? Probably not but thats what we have to do.

Time to stop talking and win 8 consecutive games, then we can talk all we want to all summer.

I have zero concerns at going to the Emirates: they will be playing football and we are better at that. and if by the chance Arsene would happened to have them hampered, no concern as well, as they simply are not capable of.

up for the last sentence, indeed.

1. "unintelligible language"
2. "ACID QUEEN"
3. "never once fails to turn a football thread into a himseelf thread"
4. "thumbs stalker often resulting in repetitive thumb strain"
5. ignore the cunt. he's on permantent wum mission. only TIDs may know City

You'd need to make a very good psychiatrist in order to guess what next in a eight yrs long line of hatred...

In Roger Ailes/Donnie Drumpf's words: "don't know it for a fact, but many people say so..."
there must be some truth, then!

I think that this is now the "real madrid" game he refers to.

I see it as a huge huge advantage to still have to play the rags, which means that if we can sort out this away problem and realise that united will drop points on the way, it is really probably coming down to the arsenal game as being the crunch one.

If we win that, the munes arses will really start twitching.

Fwiw, i expect blackeye to get something on monday

i agree with you 100% bro.

sunderland first, but if we beat the Arse away i think the title is still up for grabs and we'll have laid down a marker that will make the rags all have that darren fletcher irritable bowel thingy where you Cant. Stop. Shitting.
