Mancinis mind games

Postby Lee_R » Thu Apr 12, 2012 2:36 pm

So one minute hes saying we wont give up.. next when we close that gap he says its too far. Is this shrewed way of deflecting the mind games thing the media love going on about, a way of saying fk you I'm not playing this shit? I dont think for one minute he believes its over and I dont know why hes saying its too late.. but I like it and I like the way it seems to ease the pressure.. it might just work!

It's a way of taking pressure off players. If they think it's as good as over they will play with less pressure. Good tactic, plus look at the rags they thought it was over took it easy and it hurt them. So goes for both teams. It puts pressure on them and not on us is what I'm basically saying.

Asked if he was surprised that United had lost at Wigan, Mancini claimed he hadn’t even realised they were playing.

“I thought they played tomorrow,” he said. “Only when I finished the game I knew that they played.”

I really love the way the management and players avoid talking about United any time they are interviewed. There's rarely a day that goes by that a United player or Taggart isn' talking about us.

There is too much store put in so called mind games. My take on what Mancini said post game was spin. In other words it was meant for the press, it kind of helps deflate their eagerness to print headlines like 'Mancini says City back in it' .

There is no way on planet earth the players would think Mancini has given up. Besides they listen to him everyday so have not much need to look at what he says in public.

I'm no expert but in my view mind games only work when the suggestion is something the receiver had not contemplated themselves, or it is a person the press hangs on every [strike]word[/strike] sorry i meant slur, every slur.

The film Inception was an elaborate take on the basic practice of auto suggestion. Drop in normal conversation the seed of an idea you want someone to take up, if done with care, at the right moment and with subtlety it can work. An example would be something that just occured to me in another thread, if the title race looks like going down to the last game, that would mean the rags having a big one at Sunderland. If there are indeed forces at work within english football then there is a chance that some dark forces may try to pre-empt that situation by knobbling Sunderland.. eg getting some key players sent off or suspended... say a couple of games before the rags go there... ?
Now if Mancini said something to the effect that he was worried about Sunderland's disciplinary record suddenly spiking before the rags go there... i would say it was mind games as the suggestion has a string of logic behind it which when looked at by refs for instance would clearly indicate the danger of a bias towards the rags in games coming up to the Sunderland game. The reaction of ruffled feathers throughout the reffing community and ruling body would still not take away the seed planted in football watchers, so all eyes would be on the refs of Sunderland games just to make sure they didn't do what had been suggested. So making it more difficult to do.
That to me is more what is meant by mind games.

That said looking at the blatant decisions in the last two rag games it probably wouldn't matter and they would do whatever it takes right in front of 30K fans and millions of tv veiwers, bold as fuclin brass.

I put this in the 'Mancini Has To Go?' thread but will re-post in here as it's quite apt.

Un'fucking'believeable! Just watching MUTV Sky and they've rolled a psychologist out to talk about Mancini's comments last night, asking why Mancini is not talking up the title. Now, this alone is fucking ridiculous but then the gimp comes on, a ginger Irishman (nothing against ginger Irishman btw, just broadening the picture), and states that it could be a way of taking the pressure off himself and put it on the players, showing that he has not trust in them. Other bullshit is spouted then the presenter then goes on to say '...but he's up against the master of mind-games in Taggart' to which the psychologist comes out with the mighty words 'Man U'. Not Manchester United, not United but 'Man U'.

It's getting beyond ridiculous now where Sky are trying to fuel a feud but then using one of the clubs supporters to try and discredit the other team.

Sorry, just thought I'd share.

The thing is, it doesn't actually matter what Mancini says or does, they will get their story anyway. Last night, Mancini refused to be drawn on the title race, knowing that Sky and the media would spin it in some sort of 'Mancini lays down the Gaunlet' type story. So, what do the media do, they create another angle which can be then turned to suit their agenda.

I watched MotD last night late on and seen that they showed Mario stood in the Executive Box no less than 3 times, perpetuating the story of Mario's sending off and possible departure, allowing Hansen to once again have is little snipes - whether they be about Mario, Tevez or Mancini.

These 'Mind-Games' are not created by the club's or the manager's, they are created by the media to sell a story to those that are brain-washed into their way of thinking. This can be done by many mediums but in every case you'll find that these people don't give these stories away for free, people are actually paying for the coverage. And while the Rags, who have the biggest following in the UK and globally, give the media their money we'll just have to suck it up and go with the flow.

YEah read that in the other thread.. it is fuclin unbelievable to what lengths the desperation goes. Also this is new right? I mean these sort of lengths. I basically do not watch sky so only get the bit round matches, but I don't think I can remember any similar stories coming out when the rags were trying to fight off chelsea or Arse in years gone by.

Is this all because the challenge is from the only team in Manchester ? and they are desperate not to get found out. i mean a lot of people noticed the Welcome Tevez poster.. but maybe didn't get it, If we won the title then it would be the first time Manchester has won it in 40 yrs or so.. I mean even the cockneys would notice that right?

I thought his public conceeding of the title to United last night again was done primarily to keep the pressure off the players.

They'll bite at anyone mate but usually stop at Ferguson. Remember Benitez and his ramblings, put under so much pressure that he looked as though he was going insane? It starts off slowly but when they get close the pressure is ramped up. The agenda for us started way back and even this season Mancini was given no option but to win the league as every man and his dog said that he'd have to win with the squad he's got whereas KKK was just aiming for top 4 after spending a fortune during his tenure.

To further that, with the resignation of Comolli from Liverpool on family grounds, Sky are now running a piece on his purchases at Liverpool during KKKs tenure. They are showing that whilst in charge Comolli has spent approximately 140 million on player acquisitions, totally ignoring the fact that it was KKK who had requested them. They then went on to say that KKK was happy with Comolli's signings and didn't have a problem with any of them therefore inferring that it wasn't KKKs fault that he is in the position they are, ie. not fighting for a CL spot which many of the pundits, including Sky, had tipped for them at the start of the season. Now compare that to Mancini with, who everyone thinks is a down-right nice chap, who spent less than Liverpool last time out. He will get slaughtered every time for the money but no-one will question Liverpool whilst KKK is in-charge.

Sky, and the rest of the shite out there, would love, I say 'love it' if the Dippers were in the the top 4 again and fighting it out and they are willing them on to make it there soon. Then they can play the 'North-West Derby' shit week-in/week-out to drum up some extra business world wide. We however, will be marketed as the Devil who are trying to usurp the Angel's, with God himself at the helm. Luckily though, they know we aren't going away and have started marketing us accordingly, showing more of our games this season than any other time. People now tue in to see us get beat and strangely you'll probably find that most armchair 'other club' fans will want United to win it, such is the nature of the Sky's coverage of us.

We are Satan, they are God. Got an ironic twist really.

If I was Mancini, I would start to slip in comments about how Utd losing the title now would be unthinkable after all their supporters have already started celebrating, to let them down like that & have everyone laughing at them would be out of the question, with their 'experience' & eveything.

I think that's where his 5 points was coming from but he was a bit too subtle. '8 points clear with 6 games to play, it'd be unthinkable to not win the league. Even the bookmakers have paid out' would have been better

Love the bits coming out of the presser today:

mainly that Bob thinks Norwich will be a harder game than United, we still don't have a chance for the league, and he agrees with the rag's assistant scumbag that we are an unbalanced team of egotists

Take this for example: "for this reason we can't win - because they have good team spirit, they have everything - we have nothing. But sometimes in football the best team or the team who has balance doesn't win, football is strange. But I agree they are perfect, we are the opposite"

He plays the press and the obsessed scum extremely well, always does it with a subtle smile on his face. genius

Just started another thread on this, deleted now ;-)

For those of you who like these things I thought it quite interesting how Mancini batted off Cooper's questions, and very sarcastic (if that's the word) with it as well. He seems to be treating them with the contempt that they've shown us and even turned the loaded questions at the end into positive stuff.

Anyway, for those who are interested/haven't seen it: OS Link
