Mid-Week Chumps League

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

I would have fancied our attacking Tevez inspired version of City to give either of those two a right seeing to tonight.

Wheras the frightened negative bunch of Tevezless rabbits that played v Arsenal would have been ripped apart.

Funny ol game.

Tbh, the worst diving tonight came from Ribery. Of course the usual suspects on Madrid's side started lashing out again. What a bellend that Marcelo character.

But still, the thought of those Munich cunts participating in a final on their own turf is fucking nauseating. If they somehow ended up winning it, they wouldn't be able to shut up about it for another 10 years. But what's the alternative? A different bunch of cunts.

It's a bit shocking that Chelsea seem to be the least unlikeable team left in that competition.

Ha ha yeh it certainly is!, but, you are pretty much spot on...although I've no prob with barca. they wont be as good as they can be forever, cyclical shit and all that. would they cope with it when they arent? mm just like the scum I suppose, white hankies and four managers a season (perish the thought ;)

He played on the right wing tho. A midfielder by trade, he's shown some real quality in the left back position, on both ends of the pitch.

It's funny how Gomez gets slated by the Munich supporters for being a donkey, ruining a lot of their moves with his terrible touch & only scoring tap ins.

40 goals in 46 games. 20 in 16 in the Champions League for Bayern. Makes you wonder about Dzeko...

I didn't know that's how they view him but it's certainly what I thought, or at least, if not a complete donkey, certainly donkish.

He's a strong donkey & fights like fuck to get to the ball & get on the end of everything though, which makes him a real pain in the arse for defenders & he makes very smart goalscorer's runs too & anticipates really well. That's what did for us. If someone at Bayern could get Dzeko fighting like that, & making the effort to anticipate loose balls, they would have a much better player than Gomez imo but that's a big 'if' though, as Dzeko is one half arsed fucker.

I can't believe rumours that Real Madrid want Gomez though, (he would be like a pig wearing lipstick in their team), in which case the Dzeko rumours may also be bollocks & he may still be here next season.

I can see them causing Barca a hell of a lot of problems at set pieces etc but I don't know how they can cope with Barca on the ball.

Also, I kind of agree with Mourinho, that no matter what Chelsea do, the officials will make sure Barca get to the final.

Well that's not what I said is it ?

They probably won't need them at all, but if they do, there's a fair chance they will get them, just like they did when they played Chelsea in the past.

Ovrebo admits semi-final mistakes cost Chelsea
ESPN staff
April 18, 2012

Tom Henning Ovrebo, the referee of the controversial Champions League semi-final between Chelsea and Barcelona in 2009, has admitted that he made mistakes in the game that denied the Premier League side a place in the final.

Ovrebo found himself at the centre of a firestorm at Stamford Bridge at the end of the second leg three years ago, having rejected four reasonable penalty claims from the home side - then managed by Guus Hiddink - during the 90 minutes, as they eventually went out to Andres Iniesta's last-minute strike.

The Norwegian was confronted by Michael Ballack and Didier Drogba even before the final whistle, and subsequently received death threats from a section of irate Chelsea fans. Ovrebo has now revealed that he still receives threatening messages, and has admitted that he did not enforce the laws correctly during the game at Stamford Bridge.

"I still get a few death threats, but they go straight into the garbage box. I don't take them seriously, although sometimes I wonder about the people who send them," Ovrebo told The Times. "Just yesterday I got an email from a Chelsea fan saying he wanted to kill me and my family.

"Everyone who knows the laws of the game knows I should have done things differently, but that's the life of a referee. In a strange way, I was actually satisfied with the way we all managed to keep calm in a tense situation."

He added: "On the pitch I did my best. I shouldn't have to apologise as mistakes are part of the game."

Drogba was subsequently given a five-game ban by UEFA for his outburst at the final whistle, with team-mate Jose Bosingwa given a three-game suspension. Ovrebo feels no ill-will towards the Ivorian, however, after the pair reconciled their differences at the disciplinary hearing.

"It was a very challenging match and with the angry scenes after the final whistle it became less enjoyable," Ovrebo noted. "Some players got too emotional and behaved badly, but no one got killed. It's important to put it into perspective.

"It helped me as a referee ... if I can cope with Drogba screaming at me, I can cope with anything - although he's a nice guy, really."

The Blues have the chance to gain revenge on the Spanish club, as they face them in the Champions League semi-finals again this season. The first leg takes place at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

By the way, for everyone cheering on Mourinho - he made quite the defensive substitutions when the game was there to be won. I know what everyone would say about Mancini when he makes a sub that is playing for the tie and not the win. So can people start to see that "the special one" may not be the perfect solution to all our problems? Or does Mancini just get slated because people have a grudge against him?

If it was a game which he had to win, he would be a complete wanker & Madrid would sack him.

Berbatov wins golden boot, spends following season on the bench while his team loses title on goal difference. Well played, Fergie.
