I know this is at the opposite end of this thread's spectrum but guess who signed this bunch of World famous superstars? Any of you heard of any of them? They must have been part of someone's plan to dominate the World at some point.

Paul Dalton, Brian Carey, Andy Rammell, Neal Whitworth, Pat McGibbon, Graeme Tomlinson, Nick Culkin, Luke Steele...Bellion, Ricardo, Dong, Millar, N'Galula, Manucho, Diouf, Vermijl De Laet.

I suppose they fit a level lower than these guys who were pretty low.

Jim Leighton, Mark Bosnich, Les Sealey, Dion Dublin, Ronny Johnson, Karel Poborsky, Jordi Cruyff, Massimo Taibi, Erik Nevlund, Henning Berg, Jesper Blomqvist, Bojan Djordic, Fabio Barthez, Juan Veron, Roy Carroll, Diego Forlan, Djemba Djemba, Kleberson, Louis Saha, Michael Owen, Obertan.......and who could miss out the soooper doooper...BEBE?

...and you lot complain about our lot. The guy who signed this shite, must have been a fucking genius.

To be fair, Dion Dublin was unlucky with his leg break but went on to have a very good career. I think they signed him from Cambridge too, so he has to go down as a find, doesn't he? Seems like a top bloke too.

Djemba-Djemba and Kleberson were astonishingly wank.

I was watching a City reserve game at Ewan Fields a few years ago and Dublin was playing against us. Can't remember who, but a City kid was giving one of their players a right run around.

Dublin shouted to one of his players "SMASH HIM".
I shouted "SMASH HIM?...SMASH HIM?...WE KNOW WHERE YOU LEARNED YOUR FOOTBALL"
Dublin shouted to me to "fuck off"......The ref booked him.

Have to take issue with Ronny Johnsen being in that list, fantastic player. However, his place could easily br taken in the squad by Mal Donaghy or Prunier.

Ralph Milne will be wondering what he did right too.

I recon there are quite a few more that could be dug up for that list!

Haha. I'd probably have told you to sling it too if I'm honest!

Still, do you accept my point that he was a pretty good player? He was quite decent at centre-half too.

There were quite a few centre-backs-cum-centre-forwards at one time. Can anyone thing of any still playing? Seems to have died the death.

Call me biased, but as a natural defence mechanism to all things rag...HE WAS SHITE. It's about as rational as you're likely to get out of me on the matter.

True, but you'd never see a goalie-cum-centre forward though would you, you'd have to be a right fuckin dimwit of a Manager to pull off that stunt....oh, hold on a moment

And Jamie Hoyland, scored a stunner for Bury vs the Rags in the Fa Cup 3rd round once - I knew he had been a trainee, did he ever play for the first team?

If my memory serves...and often it fails.....I think Hoyland made a debut for the City 1st team when only about 15...Will go check that out for you Sparty

Hoyland played twice in the League and once in the League Cup around 1885. Pretty sure about him only being a kid when he played but can't find confirmation on that mate.

Is this a false memory or did Pearce (or maybe Keegan) give a trial to an autumnal Pep Guardiola?

I remember Hoyland definitely played at least once in the back end of the 84/85 season - like the 87/88 season the back-ends were times when after giving up on promotion we had a few random appearances being made.
Wasn't there a guy called Ian Thompstone who turned out once about the same time as Neil Lennon? I never saw mythical figures like Kevin Langley, Terry Park and Ronnie Mauge - let alone Bill Williams - but believe they took the pitch at some point.
My biggest surprises on line-ups were at Stamford Bridge in 1993 when I asked a bloke who our right back was and he said "Ray Ranson" - straight back to school days I was. Also in 1991 when Andy Dibble suddenly appeared in the team after not playing for about 2 years and then - even worse - in about 1997 when he somehow was back as first-choice keeper.
That was a classic "time-off" return - others being Keith McRae who I don't think played a single first team game from about 1975 until reappearing in 1980 and Nicky Weaver who I don't think appeared between 2002 and 2006 save for about 2 minutes vs Boro.
Talking about absences - no Michael Johnson threads for a while. Is he back in 2 weeks or what?
