Is this still awarded for the calendar year? It could explain some nominations & why Aguero didn't win it.

But Kyle Walker, dear me. He's pretty good at being English tho, I'll give him that.

Oxlade Chamberlain was immense in that 1 appearance he made in the year. Really merited his inclusion.

Oxlade Chamberlain became the youngest player ever to score in champions league during 2011 and also starred in Southampton's promotion campaign. If enough of his fellow pros were sufficiently impressed to vote for him who are we to argue?

Exactly mate why was'nt Macarthy from Wigan in there he has been great this season in a poor team.It just seems so myopic when it comes to these sort of things if you play in a top team you have more chance of a vote but the guy in a shite team even though playing well never gets noticed.

realistically, i'm sure Kun split the vote because he was in both....which is why he won neither.

RVP has been fairly crap for like 6 weeks hasn't he?

can someone explain the "Year" element of this to me? it's the YEAR, as in fucking calendar year? if so, it's a fucking joke. why give an award that spans two seasons? sort that shit out if it's a calendar year, because if so it's fucked up.

also, wtf has Parker even done this season? this spurs stuff is really annoying, but balanced out by the fact that they suck balls now.

cheers

It's calendar year. They vote in January. they would have to be psychic to take recent form into account...

what the fuck does calendar year matter? they play a season...vote for a player of the season like in any other sport. Am i too American to get this? it just seems like a colossal joke.

i may also be too american, but it's obvious that it needs a little re-think. It also means that new players to the league will never win it unless they absolutely storm the first half of the season ... because they have a total blank for the first half of the 'year'

I don't think we're alone though doomy ... i think the brits agree it's pretty stupid as well!

Your thinking of "player of the season." This is "player of the year." Spot the difference in the word?

yes, we get the uhm "subtle" nuance.

are you saying there is, in actuality, a "player of the season"?

I'm sure the FA have their own awards as do the football writers. Glad you 2 understand the difference. It seems completely beyond most of the Brits to get it - as you will have witnessed on this thread and if you read the press!

For the record, I think Kyle Walker has been no better than average over the last year or the last season.

I think most people get it, it just makes no sense. Is there a league table for 2011 and if so, did we win it? If Mancini lost that as well, he's got to go.

Despite it being named "year" its based on the season ie 2011/2012 as far as i know.

Walker hasnt even been the best young right back of the season, Richards has been far better. I would love to know how the voting works, surely if Aguero has more votes than him to make it into top 6 of the senior award he should cruise the young award? FWIW i dont think Aguero should be classed as young it should be for u-21s only but thats beside the point.

At least one good thing came out of the senior award in that the player who deserved it ie RVP actually got it, for the past few years its been a joke of an award. Brendan Rodgers on MOTD2 said Rooney should get it, he went down a bit in my estimation for that.

As for the team of the year it is a joke, and as Beefy said Lescott should be in there ahead of Kompany.
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think it is mate. The players are nominated in January for the votes to be in for the end of March. It's player of the season realistically, just doesn't seem so as it doesn't take into account the run-in.
