I don't think it is mate. The players are nominated in January for the votes to be in for the end of March. It's player of the season realistically, just doesn't seem so as it doesn't take into account the run-in.

That would be like naming man of the match at half time. It is called player of the YEAR for a reason.

Hence the reason about the outrage and shite votes every year, im nearly certain its of the season despite its name.

I have won player of the year for my local football team a couple of times and its always for the season never for the calender year.

Then why isn't the award ceremony done in Jan when the votes are cast ?

Takes time to count them. PFA only has a small staff and they are busy working on behalf of players and shagging. If it was of "the season" it would be awarded after the end of the season not before.

I was watching yesterday, in Wien this outcome and i must say, half of the pub where i was in, started laughing their ass of and half of them didn't knew english when they heard that Walker was number one.

Disgusting decision. Pathetic.

Yes but that's in Ireland you do things differently than the rest of the world there. FIFA World Player of the Year is for the calendar year and they are following that format. The votes aren't shit just that people have forgotten who was doing well between 4 and 16 months ago. Kompany, Silva and Yaya Toure all had good calendar years, way better than Lescott.

I recon they do it at this time because most of the players just vote for whoever catches their eye around the time the votes are cast. Or whoever Harry/Ferguson etc tell them they should be impressed by at the time.

They should call it player of the half season, because that's all they voted on when they awarded it to Giggs & Bale. Scholes would get it if it was January now.
