How to win the league?

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

How to win the league?

Postby Lee_R » Mon Apr 23, 2012 9:04 am

I think we need to take a Knockout Cup mentality into the remaining 3 games.. a Qtr.. Semi and a Final but without the extra times of course. If we can convince ourselves of this it might be a good way of winning the damn thing?

Anyway feel free to merge elsewhere ;)

I agree each game is like a one off cup final now.

I fancy the rags will go for legs in the midfield (is Park Ji Sung fit ?) & we will have to get it right tactically in order to impose our game on them, Newcastle will be a completely different test & we don't know what kind of performance we'll get from QPR.

The 'Derby' is a huge game, but if we win it, Newcastle becomes bigger. Win that and the game v QPR is the most momentous occasion the vast majority of us here has ever witnessed.

What team you go for from us? Same as yesterday for me except with Milner in for Nasri and Richards for zaba.

I can't help but think that united might come and park the bus and try and hold out for a draw just like they did last season when we drew 0-0... I think they know that the best way to stop us is to park the bus and stick it up us as we've shown that we don't like that! It's up to us though, to make sure our front four move around and drag their defence all over the place to allow people like yaya and our full backs to come from deep to try and exploit the gaps!

United know that this is a must win game for us, anything less is a disaster!

Aside from that match, we just need to attack teams, Newcastle and QPR will have no answer to us if we attack them from the off and out them on the back foot!

One thing is for certain though, this is definitely squeaky bum time!!!

I agree, & if we are still in the race when the QPR game comes, although it could still possibly be a tough one, I just don't see this City team blowing that opportunity, so it could also be one of the happiest occasions.

Yep. That's how I see it.
Win the first two and I have a suspicion we might not need to beat QPR.

How to win the league? By beating the team that is currently 3 points ahead of us with a worse GD that just happens to be our biggest rival. This is the biggest derby game in recent years, if not all.

I think you are right.

When you look at the players we have available & the fact that they are all pretty much fit, I would be surprised if these blokes don't respond to this challenge. It's a different 'ask' to produce great form week in week out through a gruelling season especially when the bastrds you are competing with keep getting assistance & you keep getting hindered, but suddenly now, that season has gone.

There's no 'gruelling' stuff left. The bread and butter stuff is over.

I expect we'll see a different Mario & Dzeko if called upon too. There'll be no half arsedness now they can see the winning posts.

I hope they do try and park the bus the way it looks to me is that most teams do that at our place anyway and we can cope with it well .It's a nice big pitch and there is plenty of space that teams do not have enough to cover no matter how defnsive they get.As for the barcodes game as long as we keep the majority of the ball I think we will win.Like a few have said its when we stop attacking we have problems.

I don't mind if the rags park the bus. I think we'll still create chances & then it's down to whether we stick them away. We have to be a lot smarter not to get caught on the break though. Last time, their 1st was such an absolutely basic, obvious, move, it just shouldn't have ended in a goal. We did have Kolarov at left back at the time though.

If they do park the bus, they have a big problem. That team has a natural inclination to attack, they simply don't play for draws so as a result I feel if they do try and park the bus, there will be mistakes made which will be the undoing of them.

If they turn up at ours to play for a draw and don't get it - watch the satanic hordes turn on their manager

I don't buy it. They will attack - which will create gaps. I think they are fucked whatever they do though to be honest, and deep down I think their supporters know it.

Newcastle are the form team at the moment winning 6/6 of their last games. Playing at st James is an added burden, to me that's at least as hard as the scum at home. Winning both of those games is a huge ask.

Taking the bookies as a neutral view city are 7/4 and scum 1/2 for the title,

So to win the title I reckon there is a high probability that we need Swansea or Sunderland to do us a favour

i've not seen anyone mention the fact that rags could still pip us even if we win all 3. they'd need to overturn at least a +7 GD in their last 2 games, so it's very, very unlikely, but not mathematically impossible...

If we beat them 1-0, we go up one & they go down 1, which means at least +8. then, in order to win each other game we have to improve our goal difference by at least 1 per game, which rags also have to match.

Actually they'd need to overturn a +10 GD.

We currently have a +6 GD and if we win each of our 3 games at least 1-0, it'll become +9, plus United will lose at least 1 goal because we've just beaten them.

They will need some serious support from the FA and the refs to overturn that in 2 games!!!

To win the league we'd have to beat them so they'd be at least +9 behind. We'd also likely have to win our other two games. So assuming we only beat united by one and win the other two games by one then they would have to overturn a +11 goal difference. It won't happen.
