Barca v Chelsea

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

As far as I know, it only counts for next season's qualification if they win it.

It's desperately unfair on the teams who have been fighting for a place all season imo. Any country which supplies the winners should just get an extra place for the winner if they finish outside the qualification places imo. It's not fair to move the goalposts after teams have been fighting for a whole season. If it happens to Spurs though, I'll laugh my cock off.

Chelsea will smash whomever they face in the final.

Sadly, this will confirm Romans chopping and changing. Finally. He will give RDM 6 months then sack him after winning the CL.

Mark my words.

I watched the game in a pub here in Novi Sad, you wouldnt believe how many people dislike Barca. The pub erupted when Torres scored.

Well in Chelsea. Im happy for them.

I hope they go on to win it. It might even knock Newcastle out of joint knowing in the backs of their minds that 4th spot might not give them Champs League football. Be harsh on them if thats the case but I couldnt care less if that happens to Spurs, I cant stand the fookers. I hope Chelsea win it, just think how that would make Terry feel. What a fookin pratt. I also cant believe no one at Chelsea made it aware to Ivanovic that his card count was high.

People question whether Messi could cut it in the Prem, have we seen evidence that he might struggle??

I hope that Chelsea doesn't win it. As much as I like Di Matteo as a manager (back when he started at West Brom), but I hate Chelsea as a club and Abramovich who uses the club as his toy to kick out every manager.

I'm backing Bayern to beat Madrid and I hope they trash Chelsea whom are missing quite a few players.

As for Messi struggling, unlikely. He's similar to Aguero, strong on the ball, low centre of gravity. He'll adapt fine. There was little he could do tonight with 10 man behind the ball and Barcelona doesn't really try a different approach, such as shooting from distance, or crossing balls in...

Probably. Who'd have thunk it? Comparing him with the rest of the pundits is like comparing apples and oranges.

Plus he was the first pundit to recognize that City wasn't a group of overpaid egos but a real team. That, as a United fan and former player, requires some humbleness and character.

Oh, and who does the coverage for these games? would it have been the Spanish channels or would it have been sky? It just seems strange that they only showed a replay of the Terry red just the once and thinking about it, I havent seen it again since! not even on SSN. They would be showing it on loop if that was Mario. Really fooks me off.

Messi would just be like two David Silva's with Aguero's shooting boots if he played in the Prem. He is incredible & even on a bad day where Barca were, let's face it, found out, Chelsea have still been very lucky to keep him out.

Without him though, Barca are nothing like the best team of all time, not even in the ball park. They would not be the same team in the Premier League & even with Messi, imo enough teams would manage to nick points off them & some would turn their lousy defence over.

What we can learn from Barca is that it's possible to use ball possession and quick, high, pressing to utterly dominate a game & turn teams over MOST OF THE TIME. Not all the time & not without Lionel Messi. When it stops working, you need another way to break teams down (without Messi you'd need it every other game) & against teams who are smart & learn (like in the Prem) you need a proper defence.

Barca are the best team ever at getting the ball from A to B consistently in a game, at pressing high & at passing to Lionel Messi. Not the best at everything.

I wish we were better at that. Every team should get one Messi and then the best passers would deservedly win.

Exactly.

Messi had an off game which included two assists, hitting the crossbar and hitting the post.

Yeah. He is that good. It's ridiculous. I agree with Ted that he makes them look much better than they are though. I've seen several el classicos when Real Madrid has played a good game and stood in the right positions and so forth. Even AC Milan did that. But then Messi comes along and because he can dribble and turn direction without blinking the entire defensive work of the opposition is undone in an instant. It's nigh impossible to defend against him. As you show, even on an off day, he produces.

The rags were coping quite well with them in the final. Then Messi dropped deep for a minute or two & next thing they had fired off something ridiculous like 130 passes in 8 mins.

From a tactical point of view, maybe 2 things. Perhaps chelsea were actually better off without centrebacks given Barca have no traditional centreforward. Second, in that situation you need to get to the by line. Barca had Sanchez who we know can but they kept him in the centre. Very odd.Like watchin City at Blunderland.
