I think next season's ticket paid for, may interest me. Or perhaps not. On the other hand I've let two spares for Newcastle go for face value. It seemed the right thing to do.

Honestly, surprised you are the first one to say that. The whole community part of being football supporter especially in game as big as this being overlooked. If I were a season ticket holder, which I'm obviously not, I think this is the path I'd take if for some reason I couldn't go. Some people might say "it's easy for you to say" but in reality I've made lot of similar decisions in many walks of life. Principle before money every time.
Also, while grand is obviously lot of money, it's really not "ooh, that's our financial worries washed away" kind of money. Maybe you'd pay your season ticket with that or have nice holiday (although it's not like you take wife and kids to Maledives with that money, right?) and sure those are big things but look what Kevin said above about 99.

He offered me £180 last night. I said no

I have waited all my life to see City win the league. On Monday night I have the opportunity (and ticket!) to see us take a huge step towards that goal.
If I sold my ticket after waiting all this time I would be selling out on my dream.

Whatever happens, it isn't possible for us to actually win it until the last game of the season, a game that (I presume you are a ST holder) you have a ticket for. Selling your derby ticket won't stop you seeing us win the league, so you won't be selling out on your dream. The amount of money that is reported to be changing hands proves the enormous significance of the game, but it is only three points at stake (or six, if you like) when all is said and done.

That's why the rags are probably more likely to pay crazy money for a ticket. They can (almost) win the league by beating us, whereas it is just one step (although big step) in the right direction for us.
