If Bobby came out and said "no! we can win! we will win! blah blah" it puts all the pressure on us to get results constantly. If Bobby says, you know what? You're right, there's no way we can beat united, everyone drops their guard and doesn't know how to react. It totally changes the tone of the conversation and makes it so that we are not debating on their terms anymore. If the players then come out themselves and say "we believe we can do it" ... they are pumping themselves up and upping the belief in the squad. That has nothing to do with the outside pressure that Mancini is attempting (and succeeding in my opinion) to deflect.

Now though, there is no one who isn't feeling the pressure and it's good that the team has been able to come into this with confidence and on a 2 win streak, pumping themselves up.

What it has done is turn the tables with regard to winning the league. They've constantly harped on about United's experience without real comment from Taggart while dumbing down our chances. Since Mancini said we cannot win it they've now had to begrudgingly push us forward in attempt to build up the end of season run-in.

Mind-games - ruining good anti-City stories since 2012.

Didnt Mancini, at one point, say: We will win it, we will all the games ahead?

Yeah, just before we took 1 point from 9

I couldnt fathom why he said that at the time, it seemed a little naive, when even bacon was openly admitting they would drop points. Maybe we have a new sports psychologist on board, as his approach definately seems to have changed

I'm pretty sure he did, or words to that effect. That's when all the 'Experience' stuff started coming out and a more concerted effort from the media to have a go at the club.

If Mancini was wrong with those "we will win 'em all" comments, then this is the most stupid thing I've heard in years: 'The difference is perhaps that we're trying to build with youth.'

This mind games shit is exactly what it is...shit. It is a media construction to pas out air time and page space. Abject nonsense.

Does anyone truly believe that when Taggart tells the World he's going for a shit, everyone at City suddenly goes into shock?

Taggart is gobbing off, the usual suspects are being reeled out to fill the fill the pages and air time and Bob is simply saying "whateveeeeer."

Mind games my arse....
Taggart..."I went for a shit and used 3 pieces of bog roll"
Newspaper Headline...."NO EXPENSE BEING SPARED IN RUN UP"

Shit....shit...and more shit.....which reminds me.

it really has been....Mancini's mentality over the last 3 weeks has given us the breathing room to climb back into this. And to put the pressure on them to falter, which they've done.

What's next...can think of hardly anything else.

That is a rags myth that has been perpetuated for years by the rags and their media. They produced a bunch of kids around 20 years ago and nowt since. All this shit about playing with youth now needs exploding.

In their last game against Everton the total age of their squad was 295yrs and that did not include Giggs. It contained 4 players over 30yrs. Youth my arse.

Create a story, tell enough people, keep repeating it, pop itin the oven to simmer and hey presto...BULLSHIT and BOLLOX PIE.

The wonderful thing about the current City situation, imo, is that most people don't seem to know what we are actually doing, & I include the likes of Ferguson in that. Sure, we are spending shitloads of money to get the club to where Utd Chelsea etc are already (due to their Champions Lg money & media exposure) but the first thing Khaldoon did when he arrived at City was spend hours looking over the academy. It became blurred because of the anti Hughes nonsense but they've been tearing up & rebuilding it since the day they arrived. We already have scores of higher level players in the younger age groups but the real thing hasn't even been built yet.

Meanwhile all these fucking idiots are so blinded by the bling & laughing at us over FFP that they can't see that there's no way on Earth someone takes over a club with the intention of blowing £100m per year out of his own pocket on players for the rest of his life! The whole point is to build a team for now, get the club self sufficient and create our own stars to play in said team by spending the money to set in motion the best production line of talent in World football.

Meanwhile all these stupid fucking morons are going on about what we spend in 3 years rather than looking at what we'll be doing for the next 33 years. THAT is our real priority, not Mancini winning the league now or beating Utd now; fucking them up for decades to come with our own home grown players. The rest is just short term stuff to get us started.

That's why I'm only half joking about Guardiola being in charge of it. If he decides he's had enough of football management, I bet he's on our payroll in the next year in some capacity. That's if PV hasn't already 'bagged' the job.

Meanwhile Ferguson resting on his laurels thinking signing Phil Jones & Bebe & getting Cleverley & Danny fucking Wellbeck in the 1st team squad is success & 'building through youth'.

They just don't seem to get it at all. Good.

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

If you think about putting a business case together for it, giving Guardiola £100k a week - you could easily see him adding value of £5m a year to the output of the academy if he is that good, so effectively it would be a free coach, churning out players who can actually play football, ready at a fairly young age to mix it in a proper league

Exciting thought

I agree with all of that Ted and have always tried to look at the loaf rather than just the slice. I have always believed this was only the temporary phase before everything was in place and the real thing begun in a few years time.

I think Taggart well understands what is going on and he well understands that the rags can't match it at present. His pronouncements that "City are not going away" are testament to that.
I watched his presser yesterday and he seemed very very stressed. Very nervy and very edgy. He was fiddling with his hair, sitting forward then backwards and huffing and puffing. Quite seriously, he didn't look like he was coping too well. If Mancini had been like that, I would be very worried.

I think Taggart would privately agree that it is only a matter of time before we overtake them and he is clinging on like grim death to what remains of empire before it become trampled by our advance. What I have sen this season is not rags celebration but rags relief that they are still up there with us.

The semi final last year, followed by the 6-1 must have scared them to death. He has his neck in the noose and is waiting for us to pull the lever.

The fact that it is City, the club he has either ignored or ridiculed and certainly insulted over the years must be so fuclin painful for him.

The other side of the coin is, that we put the rags in their place, they realise they can't compete & THEY put Guardiola in charge of the whole shebang & spend 5 years rebuilding..

Back to the mind games: surely it's too late unless you can unearth something in a player's personal life which causes him to lose focus; surely the time for mind games has passed now ?
