Newcastle were going for the victory whatever happened today. The nightmare scenario would have been if they didn't need to win, they could stick everyone behind the ball & hit us on the break.

If they attack us & beat us, fair play to them. If we are worthy champions, we should beat them. They have played ok from time to time but not been so good that a title challenging team shouldn't beat them.

Of course they can. But teams like Chelsea and Arsenal and even Spurs recently have been poorer than they would normally be. Maybe it's a blip or maybe they're in decline for good but I can't imagine Newcastle having a better chance to finish third in the next few years as they do now. They are potentially two wins from the CL.

How many times have we been 'up' for occasions only for one of our own players to panic in the atmosphere & fuck it up within 15 mins of kick off ?

How many times on these occasions have we built it up for weeks & cheered from the rafters only to find that our whole team can't perform to its best under the pressure & that in fact, the opposition is just better than us, & there's nothing we can do about it ?

Contrast that to recent times since we got a team; how many crucial one off, high pressure games have we won ?

How many of these games have Newcastle won in the last 40 years ?

Don't care whether Newcastle can get third, fourth, 14th, or are fighting against relegation. No team playing this weekend has a greater incentive than City. Have just watched the derby highlights again, Kompany's leap when he scored and the delight on his face, the long "Hey Jude" at the end, now Zabaleta on the O.S. saying City "must play like lions." That's what City will take to Newcastle and it will be irresistible. Get Ya Ya going forward like a train, like a beast, and if Mancini plays both Aguero and Tevez and doesn't make Fergie's mistake of leaving his best player on the bench, City will win. A Scouser just told me "I hope you win it tomorrow, you deserve to", people are tired of ManU and they see that City truly are the best team in the land.

I understand what you mean Bridges, but I think Newcastle is becoming a force to reckon with and even if they have a slump next season, they'll be back in the next after that. Likewise I don't see Chelsea handling the generation transition that well, nor do I see Wenger realizing the error of his ways and changing his tactics or his transfer policy to fit with the present situation. If Tottenham change management from their present short-sighted one, they have a new generation of players that may prove able to carry on. Etc.

I really think that the Sky four are crumbling. Maybe a "new" four will stabilize itself in a couple of years but until then I think there's little reason to think in terms of 'under' or 'over' performing. The position of the teams in the top reflect their present capability, no more no less (except Arsenal because of RvP, yeah I know, self contradictory).

People say it cos they heard some clown on telly say it. I heard it.. sky I think, and thought at the time it was a stupid comment trying to back up why the Barcodes might be rabid for it.
Basically it is a dumb assertion because there are not solid enough reasons why they couldn't be in contention again, plus it is a double edged concept. eg. If Pardew says this to the players - they have a choice to think Oh yes lets go fucking bananas. - or they could equally think. hmmm.. so Pardy doesn't believe us good enough to be in this position again.

Manager wont be thinking this, Players wont be thinking this. In fact they wont be going anywhere near the thought; it is cordoned off with ' beware dangerous drop' tape.

It would make very good mind game material from City's point of view though.

I reckon Newcastle could become a huge force but the FA and the refs ,media and whoever else hates us will make sure the old sky 4 will return back to the top next year.I think we just caught them a bit off guard this year hence they have had to make such contentious decisions like never before.

Ok they are in good form but if you look at the winning run they have been on before the Wigan defeat, the only decent team (and I generously term the phrase decent) are Liverpool. They have beaten teams you would expect them to beat, nothing more.

I am not overly confident given our previous for pissing on our own bonfire, however, this is not thee most difficult task in the world as some are claiming. There was more pressure in the scum game ( as loss there was certain season over), here a defeat would be really bad but not inevitably terminal, we came through the scum game ok.
