I don't think that is really the crux of this. There is no doubt we have bought our table standing, the point is they keep saying we have and bypassing the fact they did as well. In fairness, unlike us this Sunday, one of their players was homegrown and free of fee, we did not start one, so they even spent more on average per player...

To me, the only irritating facet of our spending has not been the fact that we spent it in the first instance, but that we HAD to spend it, in a relatively concentrated period of time, in order just to catch up with the Scum and the other members of the gang of four who, over the previous few years, had spent bucketloads to maintain their superiority/dominance of the League.

City's wealth and purchasing power is still being thrown in our faces by the media, but this summer could see us spend relatively little (financed by outgoing sales ??) by comparison with some other sides who now need to re-build, in order just to try and hang onto our coat-tails.

By the start of next season, we might see a dilution of the claims and rancour about our spending as even the media might see the hypocritical nature of the garbage they've been spewing our way, until now.
