Rag mates.

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Rag mates.

Postby Ted Hughes » Mon May 07, 2012 10:32 pm

Was supposed to be going out on the piss with one this evg.

All smiles on Thursday, asked me to txt another (ex) rag mate to see if he was available for said session, then would contact me re times etc over the weekend.

No contact.

I didn't bother contacting anyone as that was clearly not the arrangement, yet have had no contact from either asking what's happening or where I am. Pair of them will be sat in a pub somewhere & give it "oh we thought you were phoning us ", etc .

Not arsed myself as didn't really want to go out tonight (drinking very late last night ) but what are they like? I've sat drinking with them after rag league wins, cup wins, Champion's Lg wins. If City had lost, I'm convinced I'd have got the call.

They really are a different breed.

The rags I generally hang out with are actually ok. they're not your normal knobhead lot that go on about stuff and actually know nothing about their own team. The lads I know are generally proper fans and honest bunch that tend not to gloat to much... On Sunday if we win.. Im going to be a right annoying fucker!

So are these. One has even stopped being an official rag because he just doesn't like what they've turned into. When it's come down to it though, they have obviously shit out. Not only that but my old folks have a rag friend ST holder who always visits when they have a home game. Cancelled in advance yesterday.

Hilarious.

i have two close mates who are rags and one of them post-derby has resorted to nasty, hateful shit on FB and text messages. he is fucking pissed beyond belief. it lasted from mon night until wed night and now he's disappeared. not a peep.

if we win this thing i'm not going to say a fucking word. radio silence. the next time i see him i'll probably have to have my foot surgically removed from his ass tho for his behavior.

in a word, his reaction has been so out of character. It's like you've had a good mate who you found out was a crackhead or something..i mean, he's literally lost his shit over this title tilt. Too fucking funny.

I have a few, one of which (you will get this Doomie) is also an Ohio State fan, which is about the closest you can get to a rag in the States. He hadn't said a word to me ALL season until they got 8 points up after Arsenal. Then he texts me spouting off about another title... I responded with a sincere, yeah, well I am still pleased where we were, and the 1-6 victory as a sign for the future. Then this happend:

We get to 5 points. I text "knock knock" he responds "FU"

We get to 3 points: I text "knock knock knock" nothing....

We take the lead after the Derby "Open the Fucking door!" nothing...I see him 3 days later and he says something about us drawing or losing at Newcastle. I told him, yep it could happen and it concerns me.. but still happy.

The same thing happened when my alma mater beat Ohio State... so typical rag.

Two of my other rag friends, good guys, one who watched the Derby with me and one who texted me right after. Both were unhappy but very cordial. I think it really comes down to how big a dickhead they really are, and how much they accept the end is near.
I've come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I am all out of bubblegum.

I've got four really close mates who are massive reds. We've all been mates since we were 11 and met at school. All top lads but all very happy to dish it out over the past 26 years of City shit.

ONE of them has been man enough to put his head above the parapet and actually acknowledge the season we're having and actually admit that (although still hoping for a miracle on Sunday)...we deserve to win it.

The other three....not a fucking peep out of any of them. Jack Bauer would be proud of their ability to "go dark"....fucking soft, spineless, unsporting cuntaroos.

Good lads as I said....except when it comes to football/City v United. I like the crackhead analogy Miguel....it's uncannily apposite

There is a rag at work who will happily send 30 -40 texts after we have lost......And that is even if I don't reply to any of them. Most of them just say "lol" od a screen full of "ha ha ha ha" etc. This will go on all night. He puts stupid stickers and cut out headlines from the paper in my pigeon hole and is generally a bitter and twisted arrogant rag twat.
Then I got loads telling me that they don't hand out trophies in March, how we're cracking up and that Bacon is a master of the run in etc.
I haven't given him a single word of abuse in return . . . . . yet.
It has been strangely quiet for weeks, and I saw him skuking into the 'signing on point' . . . .without putting the light on and actually hiding in the corner of the room out of sight. Delicious.
He has admitted he is regretting the tone and the exact arguments he used now. There are half a dozen of us ready to shove his words down his throat. I'm particularly looking forward to him getting it.
It was also noticeable how some 'fans' that I didn't even know had rag leanings suddenly started gobbing off. They can have some too.

My local pub used to be City central with the ex landlord a wonderful character who refused to sell ready salted crisps because the bag was red.

Then he moved on and the new one came in who is a red. Posters of the filth everywhere which took some stomaching.

For a bit i thought I would move on but in all honesty although its a red pub now they are (mostly) a nice bunch with the general line being well at least a Manchester club will win it this season. I thought about disagreeing with this geographical interpretation but decided to accept the sentiment and enjoy the banter.

The only rag problems I've had is a huge red twat from Kent I know who is married to a friend of my wife's. You know the sort - fell in love with the club when he saw George Breast play when he was minus 2.

Well I took him down the pub the other night as they were staying over and to be fair to the reds in there they all thought he was a king Canute too.

So in summary I deduce not all reds are twats but twats support the filth.

I saw a Rag mate in the supermarket shopping with his missus, he tried to avoid me, but I did a detour and managed to manoeuvre
a full on trolley collision. He tried to avoid conversation saying he was in a rush, I had him cornered for a good 5 mins until he
admitted regret over his many FB comments after the Arsenal game. I obviously refrained from gloating and insisted it wasn't over yet!

"oh I dont really follow football anymore..." will be the response....and back down to their core 28,000 they will go, with the remainder made up of Japanese tourists. The one thing that annoys me most is cunts calling City a plastic club. It could all go tits up but who would walk away? we already know what its like to have fuck all,...they...do not.

After the Arsenal game a lad I know (but not too well, but one who has taken the piss enough in the past), drove past me in his van slowed right down and shouted 'you've proper fucked it up, it's over, never mind blue bastard'. At the time I was a little miffed as I don't do that kind of stuff myself, nor have a ever gobbed off at him. I cannot wait to bump into him again, though don't think next time he passes he will be slowing down.

Other rags on Sunday morning we trying to engage in the 'newcastle will fuck you over' stuff. I just shrugged my shoulders and gave a little warming smile. They hate it!, they hate the fact I don't get into mass debate nor the fact I don't let it get to me. Hopefully come Sunday tea time I can start beaming at them with the biggest of grins.

Yesterday I took my lad to Cannon Hall, one of those community farms. I saw half a dozen City shirts proudly being worn yet only one rag top that was kind of hidden under his jacket. I'ckle Bob being the clever little lad he his just started very quietly singing Blue Moon! :-) The guy just looked so fed up but also very bitter towards a 9 year old and his pappa! ;-)

Rag tops here are the norm. The wife and I saw an American kid with his dad sporting a city shirt last weekend in Miami which was unusual and fantastic.

Related, since tevez return my 6 year old has a renewed interest in City. He loves tevez. And is desperate to watch him succeed. Its kinda funny i suppose. But says a lot.
