The Geordie fans today--Big Thumbs Up

Postby Kippax » Sun May 06, 2012 9:40 pm

Just like to give a quick mention to the Geordie fans today

I have long said that my favourite away day is at Newcastle. Have always found their fans extremely friendly and knowledgeable and have had many a good time mixing with the Geordies. Always sticks out in my mind how we went into a city center pub some years ago and the whole pub was full of Barcodes, upon us entering they immediately broke into song "Feed the Goat, and he will score" and showed us nthing but friendship and respect. Can't think of many football grounds where you would get that.

In years gone by where we have stayed overnight we have always had brilliant nights out.

Today was no exception, from a Geordie who gave me advice on where not to park, and indeed, where to park. Advice that was spot on. The Stewards and Police at the turnstiles that , as far as I could see, treated everyone with courtesey and respect. To the many Geordies who mixed with the City fans as we exited and congratulated us and wished us well in The Premiership race, which when you consider that we had probably just *ucked up their chances of Champions League football, showed great magnanimity. Yes, I know they booed us a lot during the game, but there was no feeling of hatred as we left the ground.

I'm sure that the Geordies do have their *rseholes but in all honesty I rarely see them, and I am also sure that there are those on here that would disagree with me, but anyway, hats of to The Barcodes today.

Just also to mention our own fans today, we were impeccable, absolutely brilliant. Many fans were extremely nervous but I don't think that we let that show in our support for the team, we never got on their backs and sang our hearts out for them. The goal celebrations were absolutely manic, bordering on Barmy. And for the first time at the end of the game, I got the impression that the majority of fans actually believe that we could pull this off with every fan to a man staying to applaud the team off the pitch.

Actually, take a bow both sets of fans it was a pleasure to be there today.......

You are lucky then. I have never seen anything but geordies acting like cunts on matchday, from turning over the nelson at the old ground, to being forcibly evicted from a boozer before the fa cup game at st james, with punches raining down on us as we were walking out, even though we had a kid with us. I was also in antwerp after we played lokeren, and some pretty nasty stuff happened that evening, as it did the day after if you recall when they went on the rampage through a dutch town.

Im glad you have seen the other side today from the fans leaving the ground,, but i beg to differ, my experiences have generally been that they are amongst the worst of all fans.

Just with regards the game itself, How many times have you heard the geordies boo the rags, or arsenal, or any other team (aside from sunderland) from first kick to last. Can you think of any reason why that would be other than bitter jealousy.

i felt for them today as i want them to finish third for the good of football, but their fans (in general) are deluded cunts.

Was that graceful in between expletives about Coyle? He really is making a mess of things isnt he.

Dunno if its just amongst one or two of my Bolton supporting friends, but at least a few of them swear they hate city more than united. Having grown up as a bury fan and laughed at how they considered united to be their rivals in the 80/s i find it hard to believe this to be true, but the bile these people spew out about city is quite breathtaking in both its bitterness and innacuraccies.

They all hated united full stop! worse than us. i don't think they blame coyle for relegation tbf

as for bury, it was listed as a red town by the m.e.n but out of everyone i know, including the old man, its full of blues!

Sorry i meant that even though bury and bolton was the rivalry, bolton fans insisted on singing songs abt hating man united. I really must stop letting my mind drift mid sentence lol.

Must just be a few bad apples i know. Mind, 2 of them used to be rags before being taken to bolton by a friend lol

Glad you had a good day, concerning the booing, it seemed to be aimed at de Jong from what I could see via the TV (for snapping Ben Artha's leg the other season)

De jong only came on in 2nd half, the booing was pretty much non stop, including in the first half. Im all for creating an intimidating atmosphere, but support your own team first jees

Their own team weren't doing anything though, were they? You have got to do what you can as a fan, and that was all they had at that point. I saw the booing as a good sign - a sign of frustration but most of all a sign of worry.
Your right leg I like; I've got nothing against your right leg. The trouble is neither have you.

I'm actually fully with you on the issue of their "support" today. I think I also heard the laughable "where were you when you were shit" (which, from the volume it came over the TV at I assume can only have come from the home fans)....although I seem to return that their "loyal following" somewhat vaporised when they were in the lower divisions?

They sounded like a bunch of cunts and the booing/whistling was from early on in the first half....despite the fact that they were playing quite well at that point.

Bitter, jealous idiots

I heard that chant too. Won't hold it against them tho. Common sense isn't required when trying to help your team.

It was a nickname for people called George and they lacked imagination in those parts and almost everyone was called George. This was possibly due to their tradition of inappropriately taking their clothes off in very cold weather resulting in a loss of blood flow to the brain and damage to the part of the brain that can think of other first names to give to their newborn.

Came across a couple o arses who took exception to us celebrating outside the ground when I met up with my sons.
Smashing group in The Bridge. I offered one of them a fiver for his proggy but he gave it me anyway.
They nearly all, to a man, want us to win the title rather than the shite.

They were alright with me and my brother in the ground. Gave one a cuddle on the concourse because my brother was still aiming for Low key but we had just gone 1 up. And then at full time we bounced out of our seats and out the ground no problems I saw the lad from the concourse and he hi fived us on the way out.

Geordie - St. George, who is also the patron saint of Catalonia and known as San Jordi. Maybe they think they're Barcalona?

Well watching TV they seemed to be the worst set of fans I ever heard everytime we had the ball they booed. I expect it from maybe the rags being our closest rivals but why them? ell the rags don't even boo us like that and hiss. That was just really terrible from there fans and even my wife a scouse red fans said there was no need. There's always banter between fans but they just made themselves look like right a**holes with the constant boo-ing

Geordie is a pit related term I don't think it's entomology has ever been proven - although considering the smoggies spell Middlesbrough thus, yet call it the Boro says all you need to know about the north east air ;)

Anyway my mate was sat in the Toon end & said he like many other City fans kept a very low profile for the entire 90mins - Geordie fans have a habit of trashing the Bigg Market when it all goes pear shaped although 4th / 3rd is still within their grasp so the shopfitters & glaziers might not get their extra pay day this year ;)

I cant believe so many have taken the boo's to heart !! It was a massive game for them and they just tried everything to make us feel unsettled. I dont blame them at all for that!.

The 'where was you when you was shit' thing does annoy me though. That game must have pretty much sold out to season ticket holders. Iv got a pretty good amount of points, enough to get derby day and qpr tickets, but I didnt have a look in on getting tickets for the Newcastle game and many away days this season. City fans that can attend these games have obviuosly got allot of points that took some years to build up-so you can safely say, they were there when we were shit.

Also, Newcastle dont really have a shit load of sides to pick from, hense the large numbers through the gates. Our support is unquestionable. Over 30,000 through the gates in the 3rd tier of english football and also popping up in the top 3 highest attendances in the prem. Not bad for a side that had'nt won anything for 35 years. When they sing 'where was you when you were shit' it just makes them look silly and clueless.
