The Benidorm Bottle of Wine

Back in 1999 my brother went on a lads holiday to Benidorm... City had just won the Divison 2 playoffs with the most memorable football match i have ever seen. I remember my brother crying on the stairs when we was 2-0 down to Gillingham telling him we was still gonna win it!!

The souvenir he brought back from Benidorm was a bottle of red wine with the old City badge on it. We both agreed we would drink it the day we won the Premier League.

It's been gathering dust for the past 13 years in my bedroom Cupboard... here it is

Image

My brother has since moved to Manchester (we was both born in Jersey) and is a season ticket holder. I am flying over on Saturday with the bottle of wine. We are just one win away from being able to open it and taste how sweet it will be (metaphorically of course.... it will probably we disgusting!)

I must admit when we first made the deal I never thought the day would come and we would keep the bottle forever and ever.
We are so so close I am so excited
This feels like the beginning of something big... I BELIEVE IT WILL HAPPEN

COME ON CITY!!

Mancini has sent Fergie a bottle of 1616 Chateau De Feat - I expect that will taste fairly bitter!

Nice story.

Check the smell & if ok, try about half a teaspoonful before actually swigging it. The effect my guts once suffered from drinking an old bottle of wine cannot be described.

I thought I was pissed but you must've been hammered to tell him we would still win it from 2-0 down!!

You have to. But good man as well - great story - we will dine out on 2012 for the rest of our lives.... a little bit of pissing through the bottom will just make your memories greater!

I had almost identical bottle which I got in maybe somewhere between 2002-2004... when I got it I said I will save this until we win a cup!
I didn't take it to London with me but immediately when I got home it was time to pop it open!
needless to say the "taste of victory" was something I will not forget.

Lovely story - I hope it's time for you to enjoy that bottle!
