Kenny Dalglish has left his post as Liverpool manager.

The 61-year-old has paid the price for Liverpool's poor performances in the Barclays Premier League.

Dalglish's departure comes after he held face-to-face talks with principal owners John W Henry and Tom Werner in Boston on Monday.

The Scot had been expected to depart on holiday on Wednesday but he postponed that and remains on Merseyside.

More to follow.

This could go either way.

If they give it to someone like Martinez, then the scousers give him the same kind of backing & leeway to fuck up that they gave Clueless Ken, they could really build something which would be competiive & a good football side to play against, especially if the owners give him a few quid to spend.

If the fans expect instant success but start getting restless if they don't get it however, it could end up with them becoming what City used to be.

They'd give Martinez ie not one of theirs, about as long as they gave Hodgson, which I think was about 65 minutes.

They're like the Geordies - it you played for them, you could take them into the conference and they wouldn't say a bad word about you. But if you haven't, you'll never fit in.

They'll all be clamouring for Mourinho though, as they're the biggest team in the world, but will probably end up with McLeish.

What is it with Martinez the 'amazing manager' all the time.
He's been fucking shit 'ALL' season.
The last few months he's pulled it out the bag 'AGAIN'.
If they appoint him, the fans will want instant success, having been the manager of mighty swansea and mighty wigan, and the European experience of a dingo, the team will hit the shit.
And the Rafa comments, you got to be kidding, ok he won the chumps league but near the end he nearlly put Liverpool into administration with his shocking signings.
Has to be a top notch experienced forgne manager for me.
Daglish needed to be told he has 1 more season to sort it, the guy got to two fucking finals ffs, won one, what are they expecting after one season and a handful of his signings.
Mad decision.

Won't miss his gormless, bitter post-match interviews, but I did like where he was taking the club. He's lucky that Cardiff bottled their penalties or this spell at Anfield would be regarded as disastrous rather than just disappointing.

Benitez is the obvious choice. Realistically there is no one out there who is better that will go to them, and the fans will be patient with him.

Aww, was looking forward to next season and seeing them in the bottom half for the majority of it. They now have a chance of competing for Europa League positions :-)

Some reports on twitter are suggesting that Kenny will move again upstairs, while the new manager will be Lambert.

Rafa benitez you fools are deluded seriously.
He was sacked from Inter after 3 months, WHY?
Because he is a clueless fuck who only get's results by paying top dollar for players and wages, look what he done to Liverpool ffs?
They nearlly went under because of his transfer strategy.

Are Wigan's midfield or defence or attack that much better than Bolton's or Blackburn's man for man ? Yet they've just gone round the country out playing teams at football, teams from the top 6, with a pretty threadbare squad imo.

Martinez has always tried to play proper football but if the Liverpool fans looked at it that way, he'd have no chance anyway, as it's unlikely to change round overnight.

Won 2 of 3 trophies on offer at Inter before fucking off. Squad was old and have been poor for a long time now. Hardly pulled up trees this year did they?

Alonso, Reina, Mascherano, Torres, Skrtel, even Lucas has come good now. Yeah some real shit there.

Made some howlers at the end with Aquilani and Keane but on the whole that mob would be lucky to get him back.
