It is - the Liverpool fans are already moaning he's not a big enough name for them. If they're not 3-0 up in the first home game, they'll hound him out as well.

"Liverpool will approach a number of candidates to succeed Kenny Dalglish."

Sources confirm the rumor that has been circulating for days: Adolf Hitler and Dr Mengele WILL apply to fill the vacant position.

I like Martinez so I don't want to see him go there, hes much better than what their fans deserve.

I suppose it would be nice if Capello or Benitez went, although even then they are slightly more likeable than when Dalglish was in charge.

I think its a dangerous job to take for any upcoming manager though for the exact reasons NQDP said. They don't have the resources of the top clubs and are far away from top 4, even though the fans still expect them to challenge for the league title every year. Already RAWK are having a fit that it could be Martinez but hes probably the best they could get. Those thinking that they could get Mourinho / Guardiola / Hiddink are deluded.

This made me piss (from F365 mediawatch yesterday):

Never Go Back
You have to love football fans. After 'The News' on Wednesday, Sky Sports News approached a Liverpool fan for his thoughts on what went wrong, and what happens next. The exchange went thusly:

Fan: "The problem with Kenny was, you should never go back."

Reporter: "Who do you want next?"

Fan: "Rafa."

Lovely stuff.

That's brilliant.

Talkshite recon Brendan Rogers has turned down the opportunity to talk to them. Good move imo. He's not ready.

The attitude Martinez is already getting means he may be doomed from the start.

The thing that's making me chuckle most of all with regard to this Liverpuddle musical chairs extravaganza, is that, of late, I've heard burgeoning media criticism (loudest of all from Talkspite's resident foghorn, Stan Collymore) levelled at them for sacking Dalglish without having anyone lined up and ready to replace him immediately, so that the summer re-building process could commence as soon as possible.

In a more muted way, the same criticism has been (perhaps more justifiably so) aimed at Wolves when they sacked Big Mick.

The hypocritical irony in all this is that when we sacked Mark Spews, we were denigrated from pillar to post by all and sundry, for being utterly ruthless and having someone ready to step in immediately.

Anyway, speaking of Spews, I wonder why his name is not being touted for this Merseyside hot seat - he must be a good Manager because Alan Hansen says he is.

Dear me. Mark Spews? That's an even shitter nickname than Superjaw!

Somewhere right now Dazby is plotting his comeback effort. Edin Jerkoff? David Prat? Let's wait and see...

I'd like Martinez to stay where he is, I'm curious to see what he can accomplish at Wigan
if they can keep the same momentum heading into next season they might become a mid table team with Martinez as a manager

at Liverpool he'll be expected to immediately get results and probably wont get much money to get new signings

Shouldnt Liverpool get a CEO in place first?

Kenny's transfer policy was absolutly atrocious, im certain a new manager will not be perservering with the likes of Downing, Adam, Henderson and maybe even Carroll.

Looking at the above, its no surprise they finished 8th.

How the mighty have fallen, what a mess!

Hopefully United will be like some of their fans soon, living on history

The more I look at the situation at Anfield, the more it looks like a mess.

Though we must not forget that whatever their financial situation under this ownership, they still remain a rich club with huge earning potential.
Maybe it is their history, their belief that they should be in the top four (at least) and the pressure of expectation, that will prove to be the stumbling block and millstone that inhibits improvement.
Their multiglobal brand image, demands a multiglobal brand image manager. Who and under that much pressure?
I doubt if the scousers and the media will allow anyone the time to do the rebuild job necessary, but the last thing they need is to be out of the European spotlight, out of its financial loop and be stuck with Everton as their nearest rivals.

Phips,
It's just the Premier League mate. The same way we don't have the English Football Association, just the FA.

This was a really bizarre criticism even at the time, but I think then the papers were doing quite well pushing an anti-city agenda. I think almost any other team and it wouldn't have been a major talking point.

It just makes business sense anyway to do it that way. When any club sacks a manager without having a clear idea who to go for next, I find it incredibly stupid. What Liverpool are doing now is already turning into a bit of a mess.

I don't think it's a coincidence that for the first time in donkey's years when Newcastle fans thought they were fairly average & expected nothing, they almost got Champion's League football.

Every season, a percentage of Liverpool fans, media & ex players genuinely think they are going to win the league. Then when it turns out they are average (just like everyone else in the world was expecting) things start to come apart.

In Kenny though, Liverpool had the ideal manager for that situation; no matter how incompetent he was, the fans would put up with it. Now the new manager and the board will be to blame if their unrealistic expectations aren't fulfilled instantly.

City suffered from the same thing for years; fans expectng miracles from groups of players which are clearly not quite good enough and blaming the manager when it fails. Sometimes it is the manager, sometimes you just have to accept where you are & that it will take years. We started to improve as a club when we accepted that but then suddenly bakrupted ourselves yet again by trying to run before we could walk, blowing money on shite like Fowler & had it not been for the takeovers, we'd be in the middle of a ten year rebuild. Liverpool may find they have to rebuild carefully rather than riding on bullshit.

He's been fucking shit 'ALL' season.
The last few months he's pulled it out the bag 'AGAIN'.
If they appoint him, the fans will want instant success, having been the manager of mighty swansea and mighty wigan, and the European expiraince of a dingo, the team will hit the shit.
And the Rafa comments, you got to be kidding, ok he wion the chumps league but near the end he nearlly put Liverpool into administration with his shocking signings.
Has to be a top notch expiraianced forgne manager for me.
Dalish needed to be told he has 1 more season to sort it, the guy got to two fucking finals ffs, won one, what they expecting after one season and a handful of his signings.
Mad decision.

thankfully, some things never change. Your post proves it.

You've already forgotton. I like it.

Tony Book: League Cup.

Malcolm Allison, Tony Book, John Bond, John Benson, Billy McNeill, Jimmy Frizzell, Mel Machin, Tony Book, Howard Kendall, Peter Reid, Tony Book, Brian Horton, Alan Ball, Asa Hartford, Steve Coppell, Phil Neal, Frank Clark, Joe Royle, Kevin Keegan, Stuart Pearce, Sven-Göran Eriksson, Mark Hughes: Fuck All.

Liverpool have to get it right, & quite quickly, before a gap develops & they find themselves in that no-man's land where they can't get to the Champion's League to generate cash/exposure & can't sign anyone good enough to get them into the Champion's League because they're not in the Champion's League.

A situation which (ironically) they helped create in the first place.

this.If they miss with next coach and this generation ca play with few transfers it will be relly hard for them to come back on top .
