Alternative to penalty shoot outs

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Easy. If City are playing, they win. If the rags are playing, they lose. Anyone else, who gives a fucl?

(If your name is Howard Webb, reverse the above rule).

I say throw another ball on the pitch for each additional 10 mins that pass in extra time. Imagine having to attack/defend with 4 balls on the pitch. madness

I agree. Golden Goal....at some point someone will get tired and make a mistake...if they play for 8 hours, who cares. Allow normal subs during the game. Once the overtime has begun, allow 3 subs again to be used.

If the rags got their way it would be decided in total number of titles won in last 20 years

That sounds wicked to me like an old pinball game.

For any lawyers reading, it doesn't have to be Terry. It could be another footballer, say Suarez.

I'd like to see that as tactics would still play a big part.

This has definite mileage but go straight to it after 90mins!

Start extra time with one man less then one more off every five mins.

First goal wins

Managers have to tell 4th official who they are taking off without knowing who is coming off for the opposition.

Would love to see this tried out

Agreed! i think we're on to something. :)

The atmosphere/anticipation when the board went up for the subs would be unreal!

It would definitely have to come in straight after the 90 else there's a danger of a 60 minute + ET.

Could you imagine an all Manchester FA Cup Final with a Kompany - Rooney 1v1 battle to settle it. haha.

yes, I'd really like to see this have a trial.
One man off every 5 mins may make the game a bit stop-start, so 2 players every 10 mins may be better.

Didn't Liverpool long ago win a big European game (against a German team) on the toss of a coin? I seem to remember Emlyn Hughes jumping up & down with delight when it went Liverpool's way.

Sepp Blatter could be suspended on a narrow plank of wood above a large tank of of shark infested water & players from each team could throw cricket balls at his head.

No I just think it could be incorporated into the coin toss rather than deciding games.

Why does there have to be a winner? If the two sides can't be seperated after extra-time then just let them share the trophy for 6 months each (two years each for the E/C or W/C) ... obviously this would not work for play-off deciders so just scrap them and give it to the rightful team that got the most points over the season and finished 3rd ... play-offs, whilst exciting, make a mockery of the league system. Crewe are currently winning 1-0 and finished 11 points behind Southend. Southend might as well have thrown 3 games.

I believe in Serie B play offs, in the event of a draw the higher placed side prevail.
There is a reasonable argument that roughly says that if you finished fourth (or third in the higher divisions) that you weren't that fucking good, so you deserve little more than a place in the play offs.
Gotta say, I like the play offs.

I've always hated the play offs, except when we stuffed Gillingham to gain promotion. But I completely agree with Chinners.
If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, it's just possible that you haven't really grasped the gravity of the situation.

I think they should put the ball on the half way line and each player kicks one at goal (which has no goalie).....5 each and then sudden death if all square.
THEY SAY SWEARING IS DUE TO A LIMITED VOCABULARY. I KNOW THOUSANDS OF WORDS, BUT I STILL PREFER "FUCK OFF" TO "GO AWAY"
