BBC Panorama Documentary on Poland and Ukraine

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

BBC Panorama Documentary on Poland and Ukraine

Postby CityGer » Mon May 28, 2012 8:15 pm

Anyone watch it?

Pretty shocking. It makes the decision to hand them the tournament look worse than I thought.

Can't help but think that it's inevitable that UEFA will have blood on their hands.

It makes me angrier that if that happened in the UK that we would be banned from worldwide competition for many years

Yet it is somehow acceptable by FIFA/UEFA in many other countries

Real shocking scenes of Seig Heil and full on football violence..yet where is Platini?

He couldn't even be bothered giving an interview

Didn't Danny Dyer had some show a while back where he went to Poland and Ukraine/Russia? There they showed all the things that happen in football games in those countries.

Beside that, even Ross Kemp had an episode in Warsaw with the same subject and he showed some rasist problems in that city that were off.

Did anyone see the Skysports News special report a few weeks back? Scary shit, the racist hooligans basically said any non whites (and any white or non white English football fans, not sure why though) were going to get it. There is no fucking chance you would catch me out there.

In football in the UK I'd say it's been virtually stamped out barring the smallest of minorities..struggling to remember the last time I've heard it at a game

ok, let me try this way - how many of you went to poznan for europa league game last year? how many of you were victims of racial abuse or xenophobia? haven't seen crying on this forum. suddenly poland (not talking about ukraine, never been there) are racists.
or maybe it just has something to do with olympics? obvoiusly if you travel to watch euro, you may find yourself short of cash to spend during the games?
but yeah, i agree - do not travel there - white bears walk on the streets and you will get stabbed just when you come outside any polish airport :))))
and london is such a peaceful place, isnt it?

Sounds like it was a bit of a hatchet job on the tournament. I'm not saying there aren't problems but the beeb have gone out of their way to find it. Like you say, if it was being hosted in Italy or Spain there wouldn't be any complaints about it.

Again..we are talking about within football

How many grounds have you been to in the UK recently where a couple of thousand are nazi saluting whilst shouting Seig Heil?

Or are wearing anti Semitic t-shirts?

Or are fighting like a throwback to the 80s on the terraces?

I'm guessing none..and to be honest you can't defend it

Unless you are working for the Polish/Ukrainian tourist board?

only within football? so are you trying to say that football racists and antisemitists are only seen at grounds? no mate, when they leave 'em they don't suddenly transform into friendly law abiding citizens. but these idiots are minority. vocal, but still minority.
the same in England - just because racism is officialy tackled in football, it doesn't mean is non-existent.
also are you really sure all England fans traveling to watch euros are polite, nice middle-class gentlemen? strangely i am quite confident you will see some HeadHunters, Combat18 or Inter City Firm among many, and they are hardly angels.
Panorama exaggerates problem (yeah, i've been to my ground many times and look... i'm still alive!).
the problem still exist, i'm not denying it but when i listen to sol campbell's slurs about coming back in coffins, my only reaction is laughter.
you may disagree but it's my opinion.
p.s. i'm still speaking about poland exclusively. ukraine is different matter and i think there will be problems with racists and nationalists.

Again you digress..I have no doubt there are racist fans within every club..that's not the point

The point is that in the UK they no longer have a voice in football..tough measures have almost eradicated it from the terraces..what was once treated with uncomfortable distain..has now turned into open hostility..you just can't get away with it over here

We are not in Orwells 1984..we are not thought police..we can only control what we can influence..and in UK football we have done that..very successfully I might add

A forum member actually got punched for being black actually. Not sure if it was Poznan or Kiev though tbh.

Of course there are racists here, but it's very very difficult to eradicate it 100% without using the kind of methods that the nazis themselves would use. We have had a lot of success dealing with it here though & countries which are awarded international tournaments should be seen to be making big strides against this and other unacceptable attitudes.

Blatter and Platini etc do not give a fuck about any of this kind of stuff though and are probably blissfully unaware of most of it. As with FFP, it's purely about consolidating power and doing favours; they don't give a fuck about the details, that is someone else's problem.

I agree that Ukraine will be a totally different situation. There'll be racists, theives and general petty criminals coming from every village to the large towns/cities to cheat and steal from fans. And that's just the police.

Sorry if this sounds incredibly naive, but isn't Katowice a bottleneck of football violence, and considered one of the worst stadiums in Europe to visit, because the stadium is used by a lot of teams with hooligan firms and has such easy connections to poor/extreme right suburbs from most of the southern and western cities?
