International Games

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

What worries me is our striking options. Defoe has hardly played whilst Carroll and Wellbeck haven't really seen setting the world on fire; how many goals between them?

Carroll looks an absolute donkey. They've haven't played to his strengths but he hardly seems talented. Proved he is 'tall' though by clearing a few corners, but done sod all at the other end.

Wow Jones and now fucking Kelly before Micah.... seriously?

The commentator mentioned that Micah refused to make himself available and that's why Kelly was called up. Mystery (from another post) solved !

Only saw the 2nd half of the England game and I thought we were mind numbingly crap.Individually and as a team just dreadful.

The midfield got the ball and it seemed the rest just left them to it and moved away hence a hopeful pass hence we lost the ball.

Same for the last 4 years isnt it Doug? No effort, no movement, no desire, no pace, massive gaps between def, mid and attack.

We play like that all the time, it use to be that Ashley Cole appeared to be the only one making any effort.

We really really need to ditch all the over 28's and start fresh. Take a hit for a few years but tailor make a team capable of scaring the rest of the world with pace and effort.

Can you imagine us against the likes of Spain, Holland and Germany?!?

The FA are too busy trying to replen their empty coffers rather than picking a team that has a chance. Phil Jones, my arse!

Probably right but that's the manager first and then the players. Maybe we are spoiled that we watch a team that passes the ball around and looks for openings .Players offer themselves for passes, create good angles etc etc plus in general have a good first touch.

England don't seem to set up to play like that.Somebody gets the ball in midfield and 3 or 4 players in front of them run away looking for some kind of killer pass. The understanding between them all lookked nil in what I saw.

Still a win is a win I suppose.

Seen a recording of the England game: Adam Johnson produced more quality in 5 mins than the rest of England's midfield did in 85 & that includes God's gift Chamberlain. I'm convinced AJ can play as a roaming midfielder like Nasri/Silva if Bob lets him. He is a quality footballer who can thread a pass through from deep just as well as they can & has a better shot than either.

Andy Carrol, with a proper partner, is capable of doing the job required up front .

I can almost understand Downing, even though he's shite, getting a game in an attempt to feed Carrol but what the fuck Phil Jones & Henderson are doing in that squad, God only knows. If they played for Birmingham & QPR they wouldn't get a fucking sniff.

since there were a couple of City related players in Friday's friendly between Belgium and Montenegro I thought I'd give you guys an update

Kompany (calf injury) wasn't fully fit and did not play in that game
but I dont think it's anything serious and he will probably be able to play on Wednesday
Savic played the entire game for Montenegro, 80 mins as centre back and then for the end of the game because of all the substitutions he was moved to right back
he wasn't that bad to be honest
I think he was helped by the fact that Belgium don't have many big guys up front
but he often closed down players and did not give much away
still didn't look like a world beater but had a solid overall game and the fullbacks on his team struggled much more defensively

while he hasn't joined us yet here's what I thought about Hazard's game
he was Belgium's best man in this game, altho Everton's Fellaini had also a good game
Hazard played in the role he prefers the most, as a central attacking midfielder just behind the striker
he was a lot on the ball, he dropped deep to ask the ball a couple of times and the skill of his dribbles and passes was what you would expect from him
also worked hard in defense after losing posession, doesn't do that always, but he did in this game
also converted a penalty, he had to take it twice actually and was as cool as you like, especially the 2nd penalty was a bit like mario takes them
so apart from some bad decisions, like this one time when he went for a shot on goal in the first corner that the keeper saved easily while he should have put in a cross, Hazard had a good performance

on a sidenote, for Montenegro Vukcevic showed he's still very skilled
why he wasn't a regular at Blackburn this year I really don't know

for those who are interested, the game ended in a 2-2 draw

Agree about Barry. Him and Lescott are only there to take the flack when the usual suspects fuck up again.

Re Savic v Belgium; didn't see the game but I mentioned the other day that there's no telling what kind of effect our league winning run could have on players in the squad. A lot of football is played in the head and the confidence gained from that run could possibly even turn even someone like Savic into a useful player. (Still 90% doubtful but you never know). We have seen, over the years, how the rags have got away with some truly abominable squad players who have done a job for them when they've had injuries.

Indeed you'd have to say that Johnny Evans is now one of the best central defenders in the country (guffaw!).

Absolutely spot on with that last bit Ted. hendersons price tag has put him in the frame, as if it automatically makes him the answer. only problem is, everyone knows he isnt worth that price tag. not his fault, but true nonetheless. dare i mention steve daley?
