Good cover for us or too old and injury prone?

Surprised at this move from spurs means they have to buy another defender.
derby day the scores were level,

Sad story of what could have been. The most naturally talented central defender of his age group. Shame.

Thing is, and he has said as much himself, he can't even in theory play more than about 15 games in a season. His knees just will not hold up.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

He'd be good enough to cover short-term injuries and niggles, and play in League Cup. If someone was out for 6 weeks, he would be unable to take over.

A risk that could pay off, or backfire massively.

No guarantee he would be fit when we needed him.

That would be Verthongen by the looks of it, but first they have to get rid of a couple more! Nelsen was released already.

Kaboul
Gallas
Bassong
Dawson
Khumalo
Caulker
& possibly Verthongen

And that's just the centre backs. IMO a CB quartet of Dawson, Kaboul, Caulker & Verthongen looks quite decent.

As for King; no point discussing a possible transfer as he's looking to get involved in a different capacity with Tottenham & has ruled out playing for another club. Fair play to him.

Would have been absolutely world class had it not been for his injuries.

Surprised at spurs letting him go, perhaps they think that the balancing act with his fitness is no longer doable.

This sort of thread makes me happy that I signed up to this forum and not BlueMoan.

I pop in when we're playing you, or when something big happens at your club (you are the talk of football) and this place seems to have a bit of a brain.

As a life-long Spurs fan, King will be looked upon with legendary status until the club no longer exists. It's a shame he couldn't have won more trophies, a shame he was injured, a shame he'll never make it to 300 games, a shame he only got 21 England caps...

But I won't look on it like that. He was Spurs through and through. Could have left numerous times, Spurs accepted a bid from United which he turned down, apparently.

But what made me hit 'reply' was that someone said he wasn't good on the ball and fair play for another Blue to say he was. He was incredible on the ball... Often coming out of defence to start attacks. He would turn forwards inside out. So good on the ball he was used as a holding midfielder for England a few times.

That's the Ledley we'll remember.

Good luck next season, Blues. I really hope it's a decade (and more!) of City dominance. Then I'll hope someone else dominates, I'm sure.

Was going to come in and say I've always found him to be a fantastic player, but that seems a little redundant given the post above.

Full credit to him for sticking with Spurs through the (slightly) leaner years and through the better few just gone. For someone who's essentially played without any cartilage in his knees, it's impressive that he's stayed on as long as he has.

It's nice, too, that the club are moving him into their backroom staff.

It strikes me a bit odd, he had been their captain many times this season and i was convinced he had a pay as you play contract. Weird one.

The only thing that comes in my mind in this moment is good ol'Arry. I don't know if you noticed, but after King made that pen with us, in the last minute, Arry played him less and less. Maybe this is his "revenge" for blaiming King for the downfall that Spuds had after that game.
