The Champions - A Dedicated Thread

Postby Beefymcfc » Fri Jun 01, 2012 9:47 pm

I'm still not over it, still drained, exhausted, every time I see those clips. What I'd like, and maybe you, is a dedicated thread to all things Champions; somewhere I can go and just get lost in the moment. A thread where I can just re-live that time, every heart-ache, every bad thought, every tear, every joyous moment. The ecstacy of winning to the despairs of losing; the tension of the game changer from Edin, the 'Stupendousness' of what came to be from Sergio. Mad Frank, as you'll already know, is my True City Boy :)

Imagining back, as I patted my son on the shoulder, going into extra-time, telling him how this is what it is like to support City (as if he didn't know), God only to know what was going to happen next, I could never have guessed what was to come. City, Champions of England, Champions of the World for me. A team, top to bottom, who made something unexpected out of the expected.

Anyway, I'd like a dedicated thread where there is no talk, no chatter, no nothing but visions of us winning the Premier League. A place that we can come to and re-live that every moment, with our heads in hands or our arms aloft. We've got lots of threads with a multitude of emotion, but none where I/we can just walk in and forget all that has gone before; a second of time where the only thing that matters is the emotion of that day.

The 6-1, Vince's header, Yaya's strikes, Edin paving the way - fuck, even Merson was forgiven that day. They're all as important, they're what got us here, so please post whatever takes you fancy, whatever makes you smile or cry, or whatever you deem important.

I'll start it off with one stolen off here, one that sums up everything we are, a real jerker. Maybe I'll want to look back one day!

Its the single greatest ever moment in English league football.

It was our club that made it.

It makes me realise how much I love this club, how much they mean to me.

Its still bringing tears to my eyes, the pain off my own 33 years of being alive and being a City fan is slowly replaced by pleasure, everytime i re-watch that goal, the reactions, and the full time whistle.

That moment will never be beaten, it could be matched, but it was our "first" time, it will always be the most special moment.

Even now, when I see the QPRs goals go in or ours to equalise and then win the league, my feelings are exactly the same as the day itself. Head in hands, arms aloft, it's not changed, I just keep reliving it over and over again.

I agree with everything you both have said. I start welling-up nearly every time the Aguero goal goes in.

I think for us City fans, it's not just happiness at winning league, but it made all those years of hurt, frustration, anger, sorrow and just watching such shite football, worth it. We picked our club not because we were good or won trophies, we just somehow fell in love with the club and for each game we just hoped to get a good result. We dreamt of winning trophies but never expected it, I think we all just thought this was the way it was always going to be.

But everything that's happened in the last 3/4 years has just been a rollercoaster on the best ride around. I went to my first game when I was 4, 23 years ago - which we lost (obviously) - and since then we rarely had anything to celebrate. I wouldn't have changed any of that for the world, and when that Aguero goal went in, it was all those 23 years of emotions released at once. I know we all felt the same.

I actually don't know when a day will go by when I don't watch the highlights of THAT game!

I never cry or anything but I still fill up when I watch these videos.

I've got the aguero goal text message and ringtone and it makes me relive it every time i hear it.

If Nick Hornby can make a book and film out of the Liverpool Arsenal 89 game (Fever Pitch) then surely we have some City writers that can do the same for this magical moment!?

More than 3 weeks after THAT day and I still get as emotional every time I think of THAT moment when Aguero's right foot put to rest a lifetime of pain and anguish and unleashed a level of emotional outpouring that I never knew had been welling up inside me for 38 years.

As a life long City fan, I've had the priviledge of seeing so many incredible games. I still believe the Gillingham Play Off Final was our most important victory (it was the begining of this incredible journey); I recall the wonderful 5-1 win against the Rags; and only City could top that with an even better 6-1 win at their place (a result that gave us the GD that ultimately won us the league!); and I was there at Wembley last year when we beat Stoke to lift our first silverware for a dogs age.

Yet just when you think you've seen it all with City, they prove YET again the golden rule...never, ever, ever, ever, ever bet on City to do anything predictable...and they win their first Prem League title with the last kick of the season, in Fergie time, as old BaconFace is stepping onto the pitch at Sunderland to celebrate title 20!
At times supporting City has been incredibly painful...that pain intensified by the Rags juggernaut of success...and yet it is that pain, that heartache, that endless despair, frustration, hope and insanity that ultimately, combined to make the moment when Aguero scored his 30th goal of the season the most awe-inspiring, nerve shattering, heart bursting moment of my entire life.

Of course I'll never know for sure, but I truly believe that no other title win has EVER felt anywhere near like how that felt. Only City can do that. The QPR game was a microcosm of City's entire history: hope (Zabeleta's goal); fear (90 minutes gone and losing the title to Rags in a game we would never lose); insanity (Lescott's back pass); stupidity (Barton sending off/Nasri leaving the ball to go out for a QPR throw/QPR's 2nd goal etc); and finally, finally, in Fergie time...a Roy Of The Rovers winner.

What happens next season, somehow, feels unimportant, as whatever happens, win, lose or draw, no one can ever take away that incredibly special moment on 13 May, when a lifetime's investment in being a Blue suddenly all made sense.

I've watched the last 5 minutes countless times, and still it makes me as emotional as the first time. I've watched every Youtube clip I can find - the cameraphone footage from the ground; the pub reactions; the commentaries; Merson; BaconFace and Phil Jones reaction; etc etc. Love it, love every last moment of every last clip.

So finally, thank you City for being the mad, stupid, unpredictable, frustrating, annoying, most godamn amazing football club in the world!

Wow Bimmerlad, what a great first post and fully understand what you mean about next season, that said I suspect we will have to get used to this "Champions" malarky.

We just need to retain everything that makes us all blue and not to become arrogant like "them"

I do check YT each day for more yet unseen footage from fellow blues.

Would be nice if some of the PhotoShop club on here could (when they have landed back from cloud nine) do some wall papers for computer backgrounds?

Gillie, I know likes a tinker, anyone else?
