Best Appointment?

Postby Piccsnumberoneblue » Thu Jun 07, 2012 11:57 am

Which club has got the best deal in the "managerial merry go round" and who will do best for their new club?...And worst?
Scouse. Kenny Mumbles replaced by Brendan Rodgers?
WBA. Roy Hodgson by Steve Clarke (if rumours are correct)?
Aston Vanilla. Big Eck (what?) for That bloke from Norwich?
Norwich. Hughton in to replace Lambert?
or Wiggin. Martinez staying?
Not sure whether to include Chelsea. Presumably Di Matteo in for AVB.
City and sniffing knickers.
Come on Blues.

Best deal: Wigan

Worst deal: Lambert being duped by the Villa owners.

I think you may be right.
But anything is better for Villa than that weird McCleish thing. Norwich had starting getting turned over at home by the end of the season. Think they may struggle next season.
Very unsure about Rodgers.
Difficult to tell with the Baggies.
Hughton seems fair enough for Norwich.
Maybe Wigan are getting rewards for a chairman showing true faith in their manager.
Pity poor Hull where it looks like The Elephant man will rock up again. They'd do better appointing Uwe instead of that over rated ugly twat. E.M has had more failures than success.

No chance, villa get the best deal with lambert and lambert made right decision going there, they will finish top half comfortably and after the shambes of this season thats a great improvement, cant see any of the rest of the sides improving by the same margin.

I think Steve Clarke will surprise a lot of people.

A very clever football man who will take to management with ease, likely will do the best if he is properly backed.

Agreed, far better CV than Rodgers too in my opinion.

I think Villa have made the right choice, but Lambert the wrong one.

The whole Villa squad seems to have adopted an air of acceptance of mediocrity. I can't see them finishing above 13th without a complete squad overhaul, which I don't think Lambert will be given the finances to do; something he'll come to realise over the coming months. Keeping a club like Norwich punching above their weight in the lower reaches of the Prem would have been of more benefit to Lambert's reputation in the long term than making a club of Villa's stature underperform slightly less than Alex McLeish did.

Villa are just like we were in 2006/7 under Pearce. Bloody boring, with a shite squad, a disallusioned fanbase and not a pot to piss in.

Lambert will need to do a loaves and fishes job to raise them up, but in truth they need about 10 new players to realistically vault them back into top 6 contention.

I'm in no position to predict anything after tipping Pardew to be the first sacking last season.

I thought CH did a great job at newcastle in the circumstances and was going well at birmingham. I like Norwich as a club and can see that being a good fit. Hope he does well. I think anyone going to liverpool needs their head examining. An average squad with owners who won't be investing heavily after kenny squandered it all and fans who feel they're entitled to everything.

if the lads buy into his system and can put their egos aside...somewhat..the Liverpool with Rodgers in my opinion.

i agree with that...i think he'll do wonders there if given enough rope to fail a bit and even do worse than the King next season if his rebuild/retailoring requires it.

He looks confident, seemed to do very well at Swansea and before that.

But it is after all a gamble. Not a banker appointment like Mourinho, Capello or even Mancini. Whole different animal managing the big club pressures, and has proved the graveyard of many an excellent up and coming young manager.

Lambert to Villa is the best move for me, accepting they've flogged their assets & are a team of kids, Lambert has impressed me with his management skills & now was the right time to leave Norwich as they were a Div 1 side punching above their weight, although if he signs Holt it could be a shaky start. From such lower expectations & finishing position Villa is set up right for Lambert to improve that, not saying top 6, but top 10 is a realistic target for this season.

Despite having the most amusing name of any Chairman I'm not sure why Learner isn't splashing the cash, which is what he'd promised when he took over although obviously changed his mind about hence O'Neill doing one.

i completly disagree, villas team is far better than ours in 2006/07, for a start bent and Agbonlahor is better strikeforce than nearly any we had pre Thaksin imo.

Look at there team on paper:

Given

Hutton Dunne Collins Warnock

Albrighton Ireland Petrov Nzogbia

Bent Agbonlahor

Granted i know petrov is ill but they have Delph,Herd,Bannan or Makoun should he come back that can replace him plus Mcleish blooded alot of youngsters like delafounso, weimann, baker, gardner, Lichaj etc and also there youth team has a few players coming thought(lots of Irish lads highly thought of).

Now with a couple of shrewd signings plus holmann whos coming in on a bosman it wont take much to make them a top 10 team, they have a better squad than Norwich swansea West Brom Fulham Wigan etc who all finished ahead of them, its a no lose situation for Lambert i really think they cant get any worse so only way is up.

On the other end of the spectrum Chris Hughton has a horrendous job on his hands, there is virtually no way he will improve on norwichs position, the best he can hope for(and norwich can hope for) is to avoid relegation which i dont think they will do, there squad is made of championship players who would die for Lambert, Holt looks to be on his way out and theres not one player who you would say is premiership class in their team, the only way is down for them imo and thats why Lambert jumped ship with his reputation at such a high.

Wigan and Norwich should consider themselves lucky

it's rather clear in Wigan's case
Martinez' approach worked well for them so far
and with the way they ended last season, I think Wigan could be a mid table team in the upcoming season

Lambert was ofcourse very popular in Norwich
they would rather have kept him but got a good manager in Hughton
he's done an excellent job at Newcastle and Birmingham
a mate of mine is a Birmingham fan and he was always praised Hughton for bringing exciting football
ofcourse after McLeish it had to get more exciting
a couple of signings would be good for Norwich but I def can see Hughton at least keeping them in the premier league
City fan since 2004
