Apparently it was because he was bragging about going for a top job, when they heard he was looking elsewhere they wanted him to assure them publically he as staying beyond the season end he refused and had to leave by mutual consent.
Now this did come from a fella in the pub so its prob bullshit, but it does sound plausable, the thing that doesnt convince me is that he didnt know what club he is after.
