Oh give over, exactly what i hate, making international football about club football rivalries. Anyone with half a brain could recognise he's England's best striker.

We don't have many good players and it astounds me that people still think we have this god-given right to be the best. We are pretty shit and have been for many years. We are not, and never have been, in the same international league in terms of quality as Germany, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Netherlands, France, and now Spain. Our level is more Russia, Croatia, Mexico, USA, Portugal etc. I'm not taking the piss there - that's a fact, but the majority of England fans can't accept that. Look at our record in tournaments for evidence.

We did well tonight and got a good result against a team who were technically better than us and could retain the ball with more superiority.

I've always liked Hodgson but believe he made some poor (Liverpool-influenced) squad choices. However, his plan is to make England hard to beat and move on from there. That is our ONLY chance of progressing - our attacking strength isn't good enough but we have the world's best goalkeeper (Hart), the best CB in the Prem last season (Lescott) and a top class LB (Cole). If the midfield get behind the ball and Johnson occasionally gets into the right fucking position then teams will struggle to break us down.

Before tonight I fully expected us to lose to France, but we got a draw and now have a great chance to qualify.

On another note, how great was it seeing City players running the show!?!? :-)

We do have a god given right..we invented the fuckign game.

if it's in Wikipedia, it's not where i read about it.

you should know the history of the game you invented better...

unless it was actually the Mayans or Incans who invented it, therefore making it an "American" game. Ahem.

Rooney looks half decent for England playing behind a striker (unless you're called Capello and you pick HESKEY to play him behind) - the role Young was asked to do tonight. A few of Young's passes through the defence were quality whatever your personal views on him are. (He also provided the pass to put Milner through, if I remember correctly)

Bridge Right Foot, that's why he had two lefts!

Well he was by far the star player of Euro 2004, he was brilliant there. His strike rate for England is 28/73 which whilst isn't startling is decent enough. He's clearly a very talented player and his record of 129 in 251 games for United proves he's hardly shit as you make out.
What's your basis for calling him a shit player? He scored four more goals than Aguerro last season, Christ Aguerro must be shite if he can't even score more than Rooney?
But if you insist he shouldn't play, then who should? What has Welbeck, Carroll or Defoe done that's so special?
I don't see the need for blue tinted specs here, it's international football. Stop making it about club rivalries and just support England as a team. When players play for England, they aren't playing for City, United, Chelsea or anyone else, they're England players.

Yes i agree.

England were like a slighlt better version of Ireland yesterday, decent defence two midfielders who sit deep in front of the back four.Keep it tight and hope to nick a goal from set piece or a long punt up field where strikers battle for a bit of luck or a drop of a ball to come off. The only difference is England have slighlty better players than Ireland. You conceded possesion too easily as we do, you hope for a bit of magic off the wingers but they spend most there time defending its hard to be effective in the final third.
The only possesion England had was when Terry and Lescott passed it between themselves which eventually resulted in a ball back to Hart and a punt upfield.

You have better players than to resort to that but it can be effective and should see yous through to Quarters at least and then once there anything can happen and you can get results against anyone(see Ireland). You wont lose many games but you wont excite in games either.

You should easily beat Ukraine and sweden(or at v.least do enough to go through) playing proper football but Hodgson like Trappa wont allow this and will continue with same tactics as yesterday.
