I get what you are saying, but the way it reads it seems like you think Villa is a Barca player.

Whilst Rob is an extremely talented individual, football is a team game. It's possible to build a side round one talented player, but, that player has to have strong leadership qualities. I don't think Rob's developed those qualities - yet.

Now, Barca have been down the road of pandering to an individual - Ronaldinho. Some years ago I watched Barca play Seville (my nephew lives there so I popped over to see them - City were away that weekend). It was the night he was given his World Player award. Well, he put on a show, trying outrageous tricks and so on. the trouble was Seville went in to half time one up. It was only when Heinrich Larson came on that Barca clawed out a 2-1 win. From that high point things went badly wrong. Injuries and an (allegedly) bad attitude to recovery and training meant a decline in prowess and a deterioration of relationships within the club. When he eventually left for Milan there wasn't exactly a period of mourning in Catalonia.

Bach to Rob. Gaurdiola insists on a strong team ethic. If the ball is lost then everyone, and I mean everyone, has to battle to recover it. Whilst individuality and expression of skill is encouraged, one individual cannot be indulged. Barca may be stuttering a bit at the moment and some in the hierarchy might see Rob as a solution, I don't think he is and, more to the point, I don't think Gaurdiola thinks he is.

If Rob's attitude is as reported (always worth taking with a pinch of salt), and he does go to Barca, expect Gaurdiola to walk. Expect Rob to have a few good months. Expect his team mates getting brassed off if he gets special treatment. Expect Rob to be shipped off in a couple of years time.

Lev, you have all the reasons why we will be stuck with Robbie, Great post and I agree with that and as a member of Barca, I feel Pep would not want him, my solution offer him and us a way out before,I warn all Blues the tantrums and pops back to Brazil without permission, is weeks a way. Sell him under our terms or the best we can avoid the Red tops taking the rip for weeks in Jan, decisive exit stratergy, the secret of all major companies. Sadly Robbies exit is here now so get rid with dignity.

Barcelona's chief dealmaker has arrived in Abu Dhabi only to play down the club's attempts to sign Manchester City star Robinho.
Txiki Begiristain, the club's technical secretary, as well as director of football Raul Sanllehi and board member Albert Perrin are in the Emirates for the Club World Cup draw but will go on to watch City play the UAE in a friendly there on Thursday.

The Spanish press insist Barca are closing in on a deal to sign the Brazil forward, but both clubs insist there will be no formal talks this week.

Begiristain said: 'We won't be meeting with City. There's a prior stage missing, which is a meeting between (coach Pep) Guardiola and me. Once the decision has been taken, we will follow the strategy for any signing.

'This meeting - between the manager and the technical secretary - hasn't taken place yet. So we're going to see the City match and that's all.'

Despite the public denials, Barca and Robinho are both reportedly keen on doing a deal and the presence of the player's adviser Chris Nathaniel in Abu Dhabi has raised suspicions.

The Barcelona-based El Mundo Deportivo newspaper claims that Robinho's father Gilvan de Souza has made it clear to City that his son wants to leave.

Interesting, I'd love to know what City and Barca are discussing, no way would they watch a meaningless friendly for fun. Something is going to happen this January - I wonder what though.

they are going at the invitation of the UAE people who are trying to showcase their new stadium and using their National Side plus us to "christen it". They'll be wanting a line of top teams to sign up to similar "weeks in the sun" and friendly fixtures in order to help UAE increase its profile

At last, I've not seen a Robbie thread for nearly a week!!!

Well, a little info straight from the horses mouth, with words to the effect:

Robbie is going nowhere, and I mean nowhere. He is pivotal to City's growth and he is very happy to be a part of our club. The media have tried to stir it up with the most expensive player in the Prem and seem to have a fascination with trying to push him away from the club. Is it jealousy, people trying to cause disharmony or just filling papers, I'm not sure, but I have my thoughts!

And if this guy is lying to me, I may as well quit being a City fan right now!!!
In the words of my Old Man, "Life will never be the same without Man City, so get it in while you can".

That was pretty much what Cook and Hughes both said yesterday. So why do people take an trashy article, written by a rag, with no quotes, apart from Hughes' reiterating the fact that he's going nowhere, seriously?? Its a load of paper bollocks , AGAIN!, so chill the fuck out.

All this seems to be driven by The Guardian, and in particular Daniel Taylor.

Heres yet another article saying how unhappy he is at City, and that he's instructed his father to start talks with Barca (Funnily enough just after Cook was quoted as saying "Robiniho's father is the only person we recognise as representing him" ). No sources as usual.

I've also just read an article by Oliver Holt (Mirror) which says the complete opposite. This one has definitely has a source, none other than Stephen Ireland.

It seems someone has an agenda. And I would say Stephen Ireland is far better placed to know what Robbie is thinking than some hack journalist. I know who I'm inclined to believe

Links for all three articles below, followed by cut and paste for those of you with limited web access.

Man City chief Cook: We only listen to Robinho's Dad

Manchester City chief Garry Cook says they only consider one man to represent Robinho.

Despite all the speculation about his future, rumours of discontent and a possible January move to Barcelona, Mark Hughes said the South American was going nowhere.

It is a stance Cook is happy to endorse.

"One of the things we always say to Robinho is that there seems to be a lot of people claiming to represent him," he said.

"But we only speak to his father, who Robinho himself says is his only representative. His father is not here, so we assume everyone else is up to their tricks.

"Categorically, there is nothing on anyone's agenda, whether it is the chairman's, mine, or Mark's."

Robinho tells his father to set up transfer talks with Barcelona

* Daniel Taylor in Abu Dhabi
* guardian.co.uk, Thursday 12 November 2009
* Article history

Robinho, Manchester City's unsettled striker, has reiterated that he wants to leave the club and has instructed his father, Gilvan de Souza, to set up a meeting between officials from Eastlands and their counterparts from Barcelona.

Although the official line from City is that they have no intention of meeting the Catalan club or entertaining the idea of losing one of their better players, there are moves behind the scenes by Robinho's camp to arrange talks.

Chris Nathaniel, the powerbroker who acts as one of Robinho's advisers, is in Abu Dhabi, as is a delegation from Barcelona, who have a long-held interest in the former Real Madrid player. The club's technical secretary, Txiki Begiristain, the director of football, Raúl Sanllehí, and a third director, Albert Perrin, have flown in for the Club World Cup draw and will watch City play the United Arab Emirates national team in a friendly this evening.

At this stage, however, and to the intense irritation of City, talks are taking place without the involvement of the club's executive chairman, Garry Cook.

Begiristain said: "We won't be meeting with City. There's a prior stage missing, which is a meeting between [the coach Pep] Guardiola and myself. Once the decision has been taken we will follow the strategy for any signing. This meeting – between the manager and the technical secretary – hasn't taken place yet. So we're going to see the City match and that's all."

Robinho has failed to embrace Manchester since his £32.5m move from Real Madrid 14 months ago. But City maintain that stories are "people making mischief" and the midfielder Stephen Ireland has expressed confidence that Robinho will not leave. Asked whether he considers Robinho to be committed, Ireland replied: "Very surprisingly, yes. He really thinks deeply about the club. He seems really happy and contented, even his family seems settled and he seems to be really at home. I've no indication where this speculation is coming from – maybe because he's a big-name player. No way does he seem to want to go somewhere else, definitely not."

Nonetheless City privately accept that Robinho and his wife, Vivian, are unhappy in Manchester and want to move at the earliest opportunity, preferably January.

Robinho, rehabilitating from a stress fracture to an ankle, travelled to Doha yesterday so that Brazil's doctor could assess if he is unable to face England. The player is battling to be fit for City's next league match, at Liverpool on Saturday week. "It may just come too soon for him," Mark Hughes, the City manager, said. "He will need a couple of weeks."

Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan, the club's owner, met the players for the first time yesterday and will watch the team from the royal box at the Zayed Sports City tonight. "It was a special moment when he met everybody and I think it was important," Hughes said. "He will be at the game as he is very keen on football and it will be good for him to be there. He has a huge knowledge of English football and we know that he is continuing to look at his involvement with us as a long-term thing."

Robinho wants to stay at Manchester City, says Stephen Ireland

Published 23:00 11/11/09 By Oliver Holt in Abu Dhabi

Controversial Brazilian superstar Robinho has finally become a team player at Manchester City, Stephen Ireland claimed last night.

Robinho has been linked almost daily with a January transfer to Barcelona and enraged City fans by describing the prospect as his 'dream move'.

But Ireland, who has little time for anyone he feels is not pulling their weight, leapt to the striker's defence yesterday when he was asked if Robinho satisfied his rigid criteria for a man committed to the City cause.

"Very surprisingly, yes," Ireland said. "I'm not being harsh on Elano and players like that, who were good people and good friends to me when they were here, but them leaving has been a real blessing for Robinho because he has really come out of his shell.

"They all used to stay in this little clan and you didn't see much of Robinho, but now he's different. We were actually having a conversation last night about the club.

"He really thinks deeply about the club. He seems really happy and contented. Even his family seems settled and he seems to be really at home.

"I've seen it more this season. Since he came back in the summer he's been a different person. He's really been a character in the dressing room and around the training ground."

City have categorically denied rumours that they were to meet Barcelona here in the Gulf this week to discuss Robinho's transfer to Spain.

They are also furious at suggestions that the club hierarchy has already accepted that Robinho does not want to be at the club.

They have blamed the rumours on mischief-making from one of Robinho's representatives, who has been staying at the same hotel as the team in Abu Dhabi.

"I've no indication where this speculation is coming from," Ireland said. "Maybe because he's a big name player. No way does he seem to want to go somewhere else, definitely not.

"We were warming up last night before training and we were talking about all the speculation. I told him I was really looking forward to him coming back into the team because last season he set up most of my goals.

"'I can't wait to get back into the team, either', he said, which didn't sound like someone who wants to get away.

"I think he is very happy here. I don't see why he would want to go back to Spain anyway. And I don't see why the club would just let him go.

"He is the type of player that when he dwells on the ball and takes more touches, all players are moving towards him and opening gaps. He's only had one season here so why would he move now? There are so many indications it's not going to happen."
